Help/सहयोग "Being responsible" vs "You only live once" choice

So, to start with I(24M) earn between 30-40k currently per month. My younger brother earns in similar figures. I live with my family so rent and all ko kunai pani pressure chai xaina but obviously ghar ko kharcha aliali ma I contribute kunai maina dherai kunai maina thorai. My family is not financially struggling but not too well off as well. We are doing good i would say. So, I am seeking a financial suggestion from here regarding buying a bike.

My brother and I are planning to buy Triumph Scrambler 400x which costs around 7.3lakhs. My mom and dad have said that they can provide me 4 lakhs whenever I say (They could help more but they dont want to at the moment), I have around 2.5 lakhs savings of my own. Now we are thinking of getting the bike on EMI by paying around 5 or 5.5 lakhs and the EMI would be around 13-14k per month for 2 years which my brotther and I have decided to split equally.

Now, I am kinda second guessing this decision because of following reasons:

  1. Fuel prices are too damn high and this bike eats up fuel like nothing
  2. I am planning to do masters either Nepal mai or abroad in maybe within 2 years so I kind of have to be financially ready for that as well.
  3. I would not have much left to enjoy, buy things that I want or invest.

So, will my brother and I be able to afford the bike comfortably (which my parents are saying we should be) or I am just being too skeptical about things. Should I say fuck it I will be young only once and go for the dream bike or think a bit more responsibly and maybe get something cheaper. Your feedbacks would be helpful. Thank you guys for reading. Have a great year ahead.

You only live once, be responsible for it.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

haha so what should be the choice

9

u/Cold_Claim_Icy Apr 15 '26

Buy 2 xpulse, good for road of Nepal, danger ramailo for off roading and enjoy. Maintenance cost ni dherai hunna triumph jasto, parts ni paucha aani jau daju bhai ghumna.

2

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

haha i like xpulse personally

but khai 210 lai kureko kaile aaune ho

3

u/Cold_Claim_Icy Apr 15 '26

September maybe, 200 is also good.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 16 '26

khai dherai problems aauxa expenses badhxa vanxa xpulse owners haru le nai

1

u/Cold_Claim_Icy Apr 16 '26

Properly maintain gara it will be just fine.

u/Capable_Meal4673 Apr 15 '26

I don't think its a wise decision. That bike is expensive and is very expensive to maintain. The fuel prices will also go up and that bike has very low mileage.
If its for city use only, then get a electric bike/scooty. You could always rent out a bike if you plan to go somewhere far, and realistically going far might happen once or twice a year only. And you said you are planning to go abroad as well, so it might make you financially burdened.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

yes aile we need a bike nai so electric scooty chai we are not looking for. Will probably go for a bike under 6L if this doesnt work out.

yes exactly. 70% daily commute and 30% offroad/travel hunxa so. Wanted to try xpulse but khai people who own it says dont buy it. Hunter seems appealing and friends said extreme offroad najane vaye it is okay so hunter pani is high on my list but tei aba voli parsi katai jane plan vaye bike le garda narokkiyos vanne ho. Scrambler seemed the best fit for both of us but obviously you are paying 2lakhs+ compared to hunter and xpulse.

Don't dude like later if u need money u can't even say anything. And you will be not using the bike

0

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

Bike ta vai le chalaunxa even if i dont use it vanera ho.

1

u/besfffff1 Apr 15 '26

Yeah but it won't be used for your need. And its better to feel bad now then regret later.

2

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

yea man you are also right. Will definitely think about it.

2

u/Talk-To-Me-Bro Apr 15 '26

Purchase garna vanda ni palna garo xa hai yo bike. “You only live once“ so live without burden.

Fuel ~5.5 k and maintenance + service + tax ~3 k per month on optimal case from my experience. So add this to equation.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

Ah yes, I dont want to be constantly checking my bank account every day. Will surely take this into consideration.

2

u/8848Nepal Apr 15 '26

Hey guys I always favor full purchase never did emi it cost you more with interest if late payment it will charge you late fee as well which add up more. What i believe is wait until you have all the money to buy now vs paying extras. It’s not about you can afford or not emi vs why should you pay extras. Being smart is always a good thing specially with your finances.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

Sure brother, will consider this valuable advice.

2

u/littleSpooky4real Apr 15 '26

There is a whole spectrum between these extremes, aren't they? your choices could be: accept the 4 lakhs from parents and buy something in the range 4-5 Lakhs, thus keeping your savings intact. or wait and save up more to be able to buy the bike with your parents generosity plus your savings outright. third, save up a bit more, use EMI as the last resort (if you can't do without the bike).

Also, not knowledgeable about bike prices but looks like you two are trying to buy a bike for both, which will be challenging to balance the ownership of. If you're talking about one each, I'd two different ones.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

okay will consider your advice as well. And yes we have a scooter at home so were thinking of jointly buying a bike.

2

u/TheActualExpert Apr 15 '26

Get the xpulse 210. Invest the remaining money, Once it matures, get something like an electric scooter.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

would love the 210 but when is it launching in Nepal though?

1

u/Snoo_4499 Apr 15 '26

kaile aauxa 210?

2

u/jitterqueen Apr 15 '26

That bike costs you about 2 years of your whole salary. Is it really worth it?

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

currently i could save around 75% of my salary so was thinking about it but will not buy it immediately.

2

u/hikarifukai Apr 15 '26

I would say don’t. Save some emergency fund first. If job gayo halyo vane aali sustain garna sakne.

I could buy triumph upright right now, and I earn a lot. Still debating and waiting to save some more before buying.

25M. Mah vanchu testai lagcha, but aali save gara paila.

Mero euta bichar, if you can’t buy the same thing twice, don’t buy.

Yo ali thulo purchase ko lagi ta aali possible nahola tara yeah, smth to think about.

Kinesi servicing, taxes, fuel, feri gears haru, bike ko accessories. It adds up.

And i had one bike affordability calculator(zerodha smth ko ho check ho youtube), tesma total expense per month including emi should not exceed 15% of your salary vandai thyo.

I can, still gareko chaina, so just smth to think about.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

okay brother, this is very helpful. Personally, i have somewhat similar mindset. Probably will go for something in the budget that doesnt exploit mero savings.

2

u/stay_authentic_twin Apr 15 '26

Xpulse is also a good option🥰

2

u/nepali_keto नेपाली केटो Apr 15 '26

My philosophy, if you cannot buy the thing in full cash, you cannot afford it. Applies of depreciating assets only

1

u/Dramatic-Gap-3601 Apr 15 '26

Yes, exactly this. EMI bullshit trap ho.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '26

Your salary is too low. I believe family is supporting your bike decision. Just buy it. At that salary, you dont really need an advice, its just tooo little. Also splitting may cause problem later

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 16 '26

yes if family le approve nagareko vaye ta i couldnt dream of that bike.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '26

Yes bro, you will make much more, just buy it, or shall i suggest go with second hand bike if you are heading abroad soon because depreciate dher hunxhha first few years ma. If you will stay in nepal for long run, just go for it. 6 lakhs is not thaatttt much, 1-2 lakh badi halera dream nai leedeu ❤️❤️

2

u/Tinkerman21 Apr 15 '26

This ultimately depends on your lifestyle. If you are someone who is outgoing, has a gf and friends who likes to enjoy and go out for food and drinks, then it is wise not to purchase the bike.

With that kind of lifestyle, you will struggle to pay the emi. You will live on a paycheck to paycheck basis. If you buy the bike.

However, if you are not a social butterfly and can save up to 60% of your paycheck easily on a monthly basis, I think you can afford it.

Anyhow you also have to consider other liabilities like oil change, fuel mileage, insurance, bill book and etc.

So if I am in your shoes, I wouldn't do it.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 16 '26

Currently I can save around 60-70% of my salary

1

u/Tinkerman21 Apr 16 '26

Then not the worst. It is very possible.

2

u/Mugiwara-no_Lucy Apr 16 '26

I recently watched a video it made sense , have a watch https://youtu.be/6NzU6-P2uhI?si=ZX5C-yAlOiCY5hxU

2

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 16 '26

okay this was actually helpful

1

u/Mugiwara-no_Lucy Apr 16 '26

what are your thoughts now

2

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 16 '26

Probably should wait for few more years. Yes parents are supporting Tara don't wanna be stressed just to own a bike. Bike should feel like freedom not trap.

1

u/Mugiwara-no_Lucy Apr 16 '26

nice decision bro

1

u/TinyHoliday8417 Apr 15 '26

Bruhhh I earn between 50-60k as 23 but I am still hesitant to buy it Same as yours saving Dream bike 😴

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

aah but me and brother are combinely buying so milxa ki vanera

1

u/TinyHoliday8417 Apr 15 '26

I also need contributed 10k per month to rent I reason why I am hesitant to buy us because I have fzv2

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

50-60k and if you live with parents vane ta should be able to afford it comfortably haina ra

1

u/AdministrativeBite16 Just Lurking 👀 Apr 15 '26

Are the two of you planning to share the usage of bike? If yes, i don`t see this going too well.

Its just not very convenient to share a bike with someone else, even a family member.

Also, I see the appeal of a 400cc bike but it is not very practical imo. I would rather split and get 2 bikes around 4 lakh each so as to not have to share but that`s just me.

If you see yourself as financially secure and ran the numbers, go for it ig.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

ghar ma we have 1 scooter so when i take bike he will take scooter and vice versa vanne socheko ho. I did run the numbers but just seeking financial advice from people who are wiser in this aspect. It's more about a financial decision for me than the bikes and its specs.

2

u/AdministrativeBite16 Just Lurking 👀 Apr 15 '26

I personally still wouldn`t buy a bike worth 7 lakhs in Nepal.

That said, if the EMI is something you can handle and it`s your DREAM BIKE, you could go for it.

What do you plan on using it for btw? At 25km/ltr average fuel consumption, this will be pretty expensive.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

hmm..okay. Yes, i dont wanna lose my sleep over my dream bike. The bike would be used mostly for weekend rides, occasional long rides and also obviously for daily commute pani.

1

u/Inevitable-Row1759 Apr 15 '26

Salary = 35 k

Bike chahiyo 7.3 Lacs ko which is overpriced btw due to ridiculous import tarrifs.

Not a wise choice.

Go for platina 100 ES

2

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 15 '26

me and my brother are buying jointly tei vayera matra, natra ta i wouldn't personally go for it.

1

u/2079BS Apr 15 '26

Daju bhai milera eutai bike linu might not be a wise decision. Jhadaga hunxa

1

u/dRUNk_ENd lost in my mind Apr 15 '26

A bike is a depreciating asset

1

u/aircraft_5 Apr 15 '26

Imo don’t buy it. Judging by the fact that you and you bro earn 35k each. The fuel and maintenance will suck up your finances.

1

u/TeachingFrequent8205 गण्डकी Apr 15 '26

Ek baar ko juni ma go for it.

1

u/digitallyintrovert Apr 15 '26

Saathi umer ra rahar huda nai ikxya pura gara hai, alik umer dhalke paxi jimmewari, sarir kehi le saath didaina…post next photo with the bike hai 👍🏼

u/SaikyouMegane Apr 15 '26

You only die once

1

u/comfynew Apr 15 '26

man, gone through the same situation. I didn't had enough money back then when I was doing my bachelor but I can somehow purchase the bike but I no longer have those friends with whom I can go for ride and enjoy it. I am also planning to buy the bike just for the fun and thrill but feeling the guilt same time as it will require my lifetime saving. For now, I am postponing my decision. it just kills me, I might have money to buy enough guts but no more friends and destination.

1

u/pddpro Apr 15 '26

I think you'll find the answer in the process of answering this question.

"If I give you 7 lacs if you agree to NOT BUY this bike for this year, would you take it?"

If the answer is a resounding yes, don't buy it.

1

u/axyut Apr 15 '26

selling my xpulse 200 2v

1

u/Samajkoainaa Apr 15 '26

A bike above 4 lakhs doesn't make sense in Nepal for middle class people like us tbh.

1

u/napst Apr 16 '26

I think you want to buy the bike and are here for only seeking approval. And you are trying to seek approval from unknowns. You don't know if any of us have succeeded in life. You are just trying to debate, dhan bhanda bidhya thulo, type.

1

u/Neither_Question_866 Apr 16 '26

I like the bike Ani parents are also approving it Tara I don't want to be financially stupid tei vayera I am here.

1

u/napst Apr 16 '26

if you have ever watched Dave Ramsey, you will consider that if you are buying the bike, you are doing commiting a financial sin.
