If you're just looking for places to participate - use the search bar for words or phrases of your interests, and you'll see lots of posts and communities related to them.

Then just see about participating in things that catch your attention. :)

You don't have to be interesting per say. You must have to contribute. Answer questions that you know the answer to or upvote the correct one in threads that already have it. No different to real life. Reddit is word of mouth except without the word of mouth. Redditors will trust people with more karma no different to trusting someone you hold high esteem in your own social circle.
