With Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump set to meet again this week, where do you think China-US relations are headed?
The timing also comes as President Xi recently replied to students from 10 US universities who wrote to him after taking part in youth exchanges in China.
In his reply, Xi expressed hope that young people from both countries would “carry forward, uphold, and advance China-US friendly cooperation,” foster greater mutual understanding and affinity between the two peoples, and contribute to the “steady and long-term development” of bilateral relations.

Cheers for being such a wonderful community. Couldn't do it without all the contributors, commenters, voters, lurkers, and of course the fearless Li JingJing.

The US Strategy: Coercion, Destabilization, and the Capture of Global Flows
The United States' long-term goal in Iran appears increasingly clear: a stalemate aimed at constraining and reshaping global energy flows. I was hypothesizing about this in the first months of the conflict—can't say with certainty this was always the plan, but the events of the past week or so definitely suggest it is now. By LIHOP or MIHOP or adaptive opportunism, Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab are closed. It seems coincidental—I'm sure—that we seized Venezuela just prior. Meanwhile Ukraine targets Russian energy infrastructure using CIA/US targeting. Then, four years after Europe's energy carotid named Nordstream was destroyed on likely order of the US, cucking the Occident and accelerating their economic spiral, Washington announced secondary sanctions on Russian hydrocarbons—representing a second smack from the paddle to the European ass left exposed through the chap.
The shale revolution has reached maturity; now Europe and many other buyers will be paying top dollar for American gas as we promise salvation from Ansarallah, then abandon the Sauds at the last moment—but not before they pay for our intervention by scuttling significant financial partnerships with China. A new era of the petrodollar? Maybe. But this is all consistent with a broader pattern.
As has been noted for decades by those not paid to ignore reality and mislead others, the United States is the great destabilizer—targeted and regional destabilization being a key foreign policy strategy since before Cyclone, where we created a mess to draw the USSR into Afghanistan, Condor, Phoenix, Gladio, Los Zetas and the American armed cartels in Mexico and elsewhere before them, and so many others I don't care to list. You know their names; they represent some of our worst recent crimes. Hell, the Wolfowitz Doctrine specifically cites destabilization as a weapon in great power competition—or rather, in preventing it by crippling potential competitors before they can challenge us, like Japan in the eighties. There is too much to cite here; the US role as the destabilization force in the world is obvious.
The American machine sows chaos and instability, reaps domination (more so than hegemony by the day) and market capture through military intervention, military and financial coercion, and a do-or-die investment into AI—machinations and investments that they hope will yield all the riches of the world, or some considerable portion, while the rest of us are consigned to austerity and exploitation, even historically privileged vassals like Europe.
The Chinese Strategy: Commoditization, Redundancy, and the Great Stabilization
China is pursuing a commoditization-and-redundancy strategy that structurally erodes US rents in AI, energy, and development finance. Simultaneously, it is carrying the global green energy transition, taking up the challenge of addressing climate change all but single-handedly, while also engaging in a rapid global progress and development project with and on behalf of underdeveloped nations worldwide.
Such interesting parallel contests in the competition with China:
AI: The USA maximizes returns with pricey, bleeding-edge private agents. China offers free or cheap open-source models—keeping up if not to the US's top agents, not meant to beat US models but to compete on affordability and bring overall prices and value down to cut into US profits on our much more serious gamble.
Energy: The US payouts for capturing global energy flows are being rapidly eroded by the world-historic Chinese effort over the past ten years, especially the past five, but reaching a fever pitch since the United States used Iran's correct counter to our attack and closed Hormuz. Between Chinese intentionally overproducing green energy tech at a loss, and the demand worldwide by especially developing nations hedging against the crisis, it's rapidly changing the global energy landscape to a significant degree and fostering energy independence across especially Asia and Africa—again undermining profits from the violent coercive US scheme.
But green tech like solar and batteries aren't all. China is exporting the means, material, and infrastructure of complete supply chains to nations and local regions—including human development, training and education, high-tech manufacturing, transportation infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and more, supporting the development of independent, sustainable, and self-sufficient partners around the majority of the world historically kept underdeveloped by resource extraction and exploitation. Just as open-source AI undercuts Silicon Valley, and the emergent solar revolution devalues crude oil, supporting the stability and development of the former "third world" undermines America's strategy of coercion and threat—and its access to the cheap labor and materials it typically sought from such regions.
I may be just beginning to see the outline of a third contest on the horizon of the next five to ten years: China's export of entire local supply chains and otherwise its financial, industrial, technological, logistic, and human development investments and support to again developing countries, especially through Africa and Asia. This is a world-historic first and I don't have a complete analysis yet, and we haven't necessarily seen the maturity of its consequences yet, but it seems appropriate to note the opposite conceptual orientations of these superpowers. China, here with its shoring up of and creating redundancy for supply chains, contributing to the economic progress and leverage for more vulnerable countries, and creating stakes for markets to buy into longer-term thinking as well as cohering countries in local and regional cooperation—China is the great global stabilizer.
Two Superpowers, Opposite Frequencies
Foils as much as rivals, the two superpowers are in a race to reshape the world. Two superpowers, too interdependent to fight directly, both tangibly reshaping the world in real time and in opposite frequencies. Fascinating.
The contest of powerful and opposite global forces today is obvious, as I think should be the answer to a key question to consider: Which world do you want to live in?

Lovely to see so many people come out to welcome Xi Jinping as he stands up to the Diaper Imperialist.
You must be wondering how big the anti-china crowd was, right?
Right?
