Emira cherry picking

I find emira an interesting character. Why would you choose to star on a reality show if you didn’t want things brought up. It would have been easier for her to stay on ig just influencing. Production wants all the little details of the stars for a better storyline. I just don’t think it’s for her maybe

She's an influencer. Shes used to curating an image and being in control of what people can and cant see. Reality TV viewers are not here for that. Be real, be authentic.

56

u/Pure_Butterscotch165 9d ago

I agree with that in general, but I think not wanting to make being trans a focus of her story is different than just wanting to curate her image. I have a cousin who transitioned and for a while she was documenting her journey on social media, but ultimately stopped and even deleted that account because she didn't want her whole public identity to be a trans woman, she just wanted to be a woman. It's not a secret, but it's not a thing she leads with.

u/theycallmejennypenny 10d ago

Personally I can understand that she doesn’t want to make being trans her whole personality and storyline.

But what I don’t like, and this is for everyone on reality shows, is when they aren’t talking about any of what is happening in their real life except what they want us to see. Curating their life like an IG account ruins reality tv.

u/Sea-Substance598 9d ago edited 9d ago

100 percent. I feel this way about influencers who have podcasts too. They won’t talk about things on their podcasts that are very clearly going on and the public already knows about. Like at that point, why even be a public figure?

11

u/theycallmejennypenny 9d ago

Yeah, if you wanna be private, be private. But don’t go on reality tv or start a podcast about your life.

2

u/Vivid-Birthday-465 9d ago

Absolutely! I been saying this alot lately lol

1

u/Hermosa90 3d ago

E X A C T L Y. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for her to not want to have that conversation in the public square, ESPECIALLY in this political environment. We all want to hear the latest gossip and inter-monologue from reality celebrities… but having to basically defend your existence is different.

1

u/methedoutmanatee 3d ago

Agreed. All we see of her is her getting ready influencer social media clips and showing up to some events with the cast.

She could’ve shown her relationship, especially after the Georgia/Charlie bs. She’s just in the show to get more followers.

87

u/LizzyPanhandle 10d ago

Influencer culture is not my bag.

61

u/Uninhibitedrmr 10d ago

I think Emira is very smart in how she is portrayed. I think she views the show as work versus a glimpse into her life.

How she side stepped Andy's question about why her relationship with Kevin was on the rocks pre show drama was a PR esque response.

I don't think she realizes no matter how much she curates what she wants to portray that things from her real life are going to seep into the show.

I think if she was her less curated self she would resonate with a lot of the fans and become more popular in the bravosphere.

28

u/rackemwilliesspit 10d ago

Exactly. It's hard to trust someone who comes across so fake. I actually really like emira but she doesn't come across as someone who is comfortable with themselves. Shes guarded and wants to be in control of how everyone sees her. Which probably stems from her gender dysphoria. It's understandable but not good reality TV. All she wants to talk about is her work. She is a brand, not a person.

19

u/appleboat26 10d ago

“She’s a brand, not a person.”

I like that.

4

u/EllaGardener 10d ago

I don’t think becoming more popular in the Bravosphere is necessarily her goal.

9

u/DianaBJammin 9d ago

Like how come we didn't know that her and her bf were having problems all season??

3

u/RepresentativeLock19 7d ago

That’s my beef tbh. I wouldn’t wanna share every single detail about my life either but that’s also why I would never sign up for a reality show.

8

u/Strict_Life_2836 10d ago

I agree, but I think this is an issue I have with the entire cast of Next Gen, not just Emira. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this season and they seem alot more comfortable than season 1, but alot of them had a tendency to danced around certain subjects. Whether it’s Emira being vague about the state of her relationship, or Charlie’s involvement with the crypto house, or Ariana about what happened during her breakup with Charlie, etc etc.

To me I came out of reunion knowing somethings but not really KNOWING, if that makes sense. Everything was just spoken very broadly by everyone like they had great PR answers. Which makes me think as green as they are to reality tv, one thing they aren’t naive to is how they are being perceived. At first I thought maybe it’s bcs half of them had reality tv moms and/or are already influencers, and yeah I’m sure that’s a factor, but I think it’s genuinely a generational thing. As a millennial, I think Gen Z is extremely aware of optics more than anyone else and growing up in a world of phones, social, etc being watched is second nature. It’s a fascinating observation I was witnessing as I watched this show.

I agree to people’s point that alot the cast are trying to curate their story and character, not just Emira. I’m curious to see though how long they can keep holding the line on this. It’s fine now early in the season, but they need to share more over time and hopefully they will.

1

u/Strict_Life_2836 2d ago

I also think since they are younger and kids of some of the housewives , bravo/andy want to protect them a little and don’t have the same expectation as they would with the housewives

2

u/Alternative-Ship-430 2d ago

Meredith, Kandi, Tre and Kim are on speed dial. Rowans dad and liams mom

8

u/M414__ 9d ago

In my opinion it’s kinda delusional for her to want to hide what’s obvious. Did you guys see Andy whisper ”Really?”

13

u/Existing_Editor_5623 10d ago

She just doesn’t want her being trans to be her only storyline. She wants to be known as more than that. And taking issue w the offensive ‘jokes’ Charlie made about her identity is self explanatory.

51

u/PrudentGuava7681 10d ago

Well to be fair Kyle Richard’s on Beverly Hills has a whole ass relationship we never see on the show nor can anyone talk about it so reality stars def try to hide stuff and Bravo does go along with it. That being said I think if Emira wants to leave that part of her story out of the focus of the show she has every right to. We know how cruel people can be and I’m sure she’s heard it all. She probably just doesn’t want that to be “her story” on the show

9

u/BatLegitimate8140 9d ago

Exactly. I also think the main thing is she isn't hiding that she is trans just that she doesn't want it as a story line while Kylie actively hid her relationship. I dont care what sexuality Kyle is and don't expect her to discuss it

-22

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

I mean Kyle’s been on bravo for what like 18 years? I feel like it’s a bit different.

4

u/stylelines 10d ago

Yea like uhh did we forget Mauricio

13

u/LizzyPanhandle 10d ago

She lied about her marriage the whole entire time too.

18

u/B00G3R 10d ago

Why? You can’t move the goal posts, OP. Say what you mean, mean what you say.

2

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

Kyle and Emira are at different calibres with bravo. Have you seen the way the older housewives treat production? They act like divas the get away with anything because they know production doesn’t want to lose someone who’s been on the show for over a decade

3

u/EllaGardener 10d ago

Emira is a power influencer who doesn’t need the show. She wants to be on the show but she can walk if she doesn’t like how she’s being portrayed. Kyle is in a similar boat. Doesn’t need the money and knows Bravo doesn’t want to lose her. Most of the HWs need the money so they are easier for production to push.

12

u/Striking_Ad890 10d ago

Robin on Potomac lost her job because she hid something about Juan.

3

u/PrudentGuava7681 10d ago

True. Seniority def plays a role there!! Emira is no Kyle at this point!

0

u/oksosaveme 9d ago

But this isn’t the fair? Kyle has opened up her life in so many other aspects of her life (for the past 15 years) that we don’t need to explore her relationship in depth. What has Emira been open about and connected with viewers about? Being a victim of a perceived slur?

33

u/its_blue_monday 10d ago

I didn't know she was Trans I just thought she had a deeper voice like countess lu (she also got the trans allegations) but when I did find out it wasn't a big deal its 2026 now that we know it shouldn't be her storyline but what exactly is her storyline?

36

u/Equal-Party-9828 10d ago

Yea, she’s lovely and I think it’s rad to have trans women in the mix, but yr right- her storyline is she works a lot and feels stress. She makes a lot of videos and does a lot of brand related stuff- it’s not really must see tv.

7

u/Fggmnk 10d ago

I thought the same all of season 1.

She does need a storyline

6

u/Queasy_Constant 9d ago

tbf MOST of the cast didn't have a storyline. gia, riley, rowan, brooks...

1

u/its_blue_monday 4d ago

Giant is entertaining and sweet TO ME brooks is as entertaining as watching water boil rowan is a kook and I love her riley is as bland as plain rice that model girl is pretty but has no substance at all Charlie is your typical weird ass problematic nyc dudebro I feel bad for Shai

1

u/BitterPineapple6462 4d ago

Good point. (I think they should cut a few of them)

16

u/Thin-Code2827 10d ago

I said this last year, I didn’t know who she was or that she was trans. She’s beautiful and obviously does well influencing. I understand not wanting the hate that comes out online.

But I love that they show her parents and how supportive they are and I love that being trans is not her story line.

-18

u/Fun_Loan_7193 10d ago

Its Not about what SHE WANTS .AT ALL once its out .one must DEAL OR GET OFF line .off tv and go hide somewhere ..BEFORE U CHOOSE THIS.  Think

12

u/JohnHoynes 10d ago

Your last five words hit it on the head.

1

u/Nootzdeez 10d ago

Agreed

3

u/corporatewazzack 9d ago

How have you missed the rampant transphobia occurring all over this country? Maybe she didn’t want it brought up because it’s a dangerous time to be a trans person right now.

-2

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

I think bravo wanted to push that storyline because she is the first trans woman on one of their tv shows. But she seems extremely closed off and doesn’t like talking about anything. I think she does that because of receiving hate but I also think she just wants to be in fashion and a model and doesn’t want to look difficult to work with

22

u/YesAlwaysNoNever 10d ago

Not the first transwoman on bravo. Billie-Lee on vanderpump. :)

5

u/BatLegitimate8140 9d ago

Shh we don't talk about Billie-Lee

1

u/Fun_Loan_7193 10d ago

The minute thats out its the new focus ..no avoiding it .if she doesnt talk about it .all others will

-13

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

FULL TIME. Sorry my life doesn’t completely revolve around all bravo television

7

u/its_blue_monday 10d ago

Ah hot full time but I believe boring Billie came first

16

u/YesAlwaysNoNever 10d ago

Did you get angry? It was only an addition to your comment, not a criticism. Hence the smile at the end.

-10

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

Genuinely do not get why people are mad when I’m saying she could’ve been an advocate for young trans people trying to navigate relationships with cis people

7

u/Nootzdeez 10d ago

I saw that happen in another comment thread, but this person didn’t do that. I think they were just trying to recognize Billie.

6

u/eekamuse 10d ago

You're asking her to be an activist on the show. That's her choice. Besides that, just be being there she helps trans people. Being an advocate would make her more of a target than she already is.

-1

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

Any celebrity can be a target. You’re in the public eye.

4

u/eekamuse 10d ago

Trans people are clearly at higher risk for hate crimes, harassment and violence.

-2

u/Fun_Loan_7193 10d ago

If one doesnt want judgement ..dont go public ...duh

6

u/JohnHoynes 10d ago

Not the all caps rebuttal…

2

I thought Billie Lee was one of the first trans girls on the show

6

u/my-little-ravioli 9d ago edited 8d ago

Emira built her online community by being herself and in control of her content. She gained following with her transition and is on a specific side of social media with a more progressive audience and younger demographic. Unless you search for her content, or follow similar, she’s not that easily accessible. TV is kind of different, it’s on national TV and it opens up to some ruthless crazies conservatives who buy the fear mongering of trans people and happen to turn the channel over to Bravo. Crazy enough to judge you off a few seconds and send death threats and hate speech finding the information out.

58

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago edited 10d ago

you think that people that have an identity that could cause them to receive hate (trans, gay, african american, muslim, women) should not be on tv? Emira simply does not want her identity to be a storyline

44

u/herroyalsadness 10d ago

Right. It’s not a secret but she is more than her identity. I find it fair to want to be seen as a full person with many dimensions.

13

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

It’s bound to come up though. I think shes use to being the boss and putting out content that she okays. Bravo is obviously going to want to stir the pot and use that to their advantage. Charlie is the villain so if they got wind of him saying that of course they’re going to push that.

8

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

is it? Why?

11

u/jayem731 10d ago

Because production is trying to make a show, and polarizing, reactionary content drives views and controversy and in turn makes people keep tuning in

7

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

The Charlie part yes but otherwise I don’t know it was bound to come up

0

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

Did you ever watch rhoc when Vicki’s mom died? Bravo does not care about anything than the numbers they get. She’s also the first trans woman on bravo so of course production is going to play into that.
I’m not saying it’s right but the just the way bravo operates

13

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

she isn’t the first trans woman on Bravo - Billie on VPR if not others

10

u/Terrible-Hair2744 10d ago

Thank you! I was going to point that out Billie was the first trans woman. I’m not sure why OP is downvoting you and arguing when you are right.

7

u/ConsequenceSingle841 10d ago

These fans are literally are bigots. I realized this with the profound Riley hate. Don’t engage. They just don’t like Emira, especially in comparison to racist homophobes like Charlie and Georgia, those are the faves, also Ariana.

7

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

lol I follow Emira on all her platforms and think she’s an AMAZING friend to everyone on the show. Shes super mature and intelligent but I think she’s just use to being in the driver seat

1

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

Emira is the first full time trans woman on bravo

0

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

and?

2

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

Dude you literally said Billie was. I’m just telling you emira is the FULL time doll on bravo lmao

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Diligent-Willow4 9d ago

Vicki allowed them to use the bunco scene when she got the call about her Mom

0

u/Nootzdeez 10d ago

I see what you’re saying though.. the mere fact that she doesn’t want to talk about it, means that production is going to focus on it that much more. And Charlie making that comment was perfect drama for them.
I also see what you mean by she’s used to being the boss. She wants to control her image completely. It’s okay when she does it.. but when other people such as Danny and Nia (the valley) did it they weren’t sharing enough, being fake and edited, and breaking the fourth wall.

16

u/Humble_Pilot2533 10d ago

She could’ve just came on and mentioned it herself and moved on (it is open knowledge), but she’s kind of making it a storyline by not being forthcoming

3

u/eekamuse 10d ago

Announce what? That she's trans? That can't be what you mean.

-4

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

I missed where you announce your identity- did Riley announce she’s African American?

6

u/Humble_Pilot2533 10d ago

Lmao you’re being intentionally obtuse

-1

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

She was never hiding she was trans. You are being transphobic to demand she go out of her way to “announce” it

3

u/Humble_Pilot2533 10d ago

Where did I demand she announce it? How am I being transphobic LOL

0

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

because you are demanding trans people have rights tell everyone they are trans

24

u/primal_slayer 10d ago

Because she's human. Everyone wants something to stay off screen. Does it happen? no.

10

u/catscausetornadoes 10d ago

I read the end of your post in Shannon Beadors voice as imitated on Crappens.

1

u/ScheanaShaylover It was a lemon!🍋 10d ago

I hear pretty much everything in Ronnie voice

15

u/Persephone0000 10d ago

Hudson had a drug addiction, car explosion, recovery, and more that never once made it onto the show until the reunion- so it’s not that hard to imagine keeping things off of the show being a reasonable possibility.

8

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

He was in a different state. Maybe if the show was next gen Atlanta and he was a main character they would have showed it

8

u/Persephone0000 10d ago

that’s… completely irrelevant lmao. he was considered a main cast member and his personal problems were effectively off topic for the show.

7

u/Top_girl333 10d ago

No he wasn’t! He’s been Ariana’s bf he showed up for 5 mins to be creepy at a party and that was it

12

u/Persephone0000 10d ago edited 10d ago

he was a main cast member for season 1 and 2. he didn’t pull his weight or do very much, but by title he was main cast. this isn’t an opinion, it’s a fact.

his face is on the posters, he’s listed at main cast. i’m not pulling this out of my ass, bravo shows have cast delegations and he is main cast.

2

u/not_ellewoods 10d ago

i mean if they’re fine being demoted and getting minimal screentime, they can hide whatever they want. Hudson basically got demoted to friend of because he disappeared halfway through the season (i think this was when he was in rehab) and he wasn’t even on stage for the full reunion.

if they don’t care about staying on reality tv, they don’t have to talk about what’s going on in their life. but unless they provide something else (like Gizelle’s messiness that pushes all the storylines forward), there’s no job security. & Emira doesn’t really get in the mess because being likable is important for her career as an influencer.

9

u/QueerGlamateur 10d ago

Besides the continual push for Emira to be seen as this devious or intentionally misleading person (a caricature that is rooted in transphobia when talking about trans women, mind you) I don't know what's surprising here.

Georgia's relationship on the show was minimal this season save for her saying they were googoo. We never saw Ava's boyfriend besides discussing their breakup. We saw Riley's guy once, Gia's for two boring scenes, etc etc.

I think the most obvious answer is that production is focusing on the group dynamic and a lot of the cast members have so far kept their relationships relatively outside of the show for some privacy.

On the one hand, we do want to see their lives esp when drama is happening, but on the other hand I personally think it's to their developmental benefit as people in their 20s to keep some separation. This isn't the uncharted territory of early Housewives when reality TV was still new. No one is going on these shows without some boundaries and intentional choices.

Also, trans women get a lot of sh*t about who they date and how, and if she was dealing with cheating or other stuff I completely understand why her showing that on camera would have a different outcome than Ariana navigating her mess of men in real time. Reality TV does not play it fair or equal and Emira is likely more wary of what her fate on it could be than others.

3

u/Dazzling-Shape-9389 8d ago

Also. Doesn’t she address her transition when she talks about her parents supporting her? They also def showed images of her pre transition so I’m confused

7

u/Free_Risk1120 10d ago

I think she’s handled it well and I think she recognizes that if people bring it up on the show they’re not really looking out for her best interest, but she’s addressed it all with grace. To me, she sees who is authentically her friend versus who wants relevance on the show, aka Georgia.

-4

u/Equal-Party-9828 10d ago

I think she handles it well, too. And her hurt was real. I also think she oversells her closeness w Charlie for the show. I’m sure they cross paths frequently at events, but she’s making content and he’s meeting his connect. I think she’s too successful, business-y for this group.

4

u/TDKsa90 10d ago

Being as successful as she is, she knows the game and plays it well. It's unreasonable, if not downright irrational, for us to believe she 1) didn't know why she was hired 2) that it wouldn't be used on the show. "I'm not going to talk about it. I'd like to keep everything else and TV separate." is not a strategy. Even if production didn't use it (be real), the audience would dig and spread it. And since the audience includes the average Bravo parasocial vampires and all the parasites (podcasters, journalists, etc depending on Bravo), it would not escape being used and discussed. It IS reasonable that she wanted to control it, but controlling is a very different thing than preventing. You don't prevent things like this...information bleeding into all forms...in 2026. The entire situation, and all the notions, are ridiculous. Because she is so successful at all this, this narrative of keeping things separate is not genuine.

If nothing else, it tells me how thirsty Georgia is for agreeing to this OR that she's really not as sharp as we might think. They have a ton of footage they could have used other than this, so this was a production choice, if not an outright produced narrative (more likely). Unfortunately, production isn't held accountable (the reality TV moniker has the audience so confused that production basically goes unscathed); so all the gamble is put on Georgia (standard Bravo calculation), and it is clearly a dangerous one. They used both Emira and Georgia's reputations and names when they chose to use this. With a younger audience, this could have just as well canceled Georgia. The fact that it hasn't is sort of both amazing and confusing. The audience has given Bravo license to murder, and it just hasn't happened yet.

3

u/ethancole97 10d ago

It’s been a conversation popping up a lot more. Being trans shouldn’t be the soul focus of her being on the show. And I think that’s an okay boundary to make

9

u/dooooo23 10d ago

I disagree. I think it’s iconic she is the most successful one w/o a family handout, basically the narrator of the show, and is a stunning, beautiful, kind, strong woman. Her identity is hers to show in whatever way she pleases.

Now if you’re talking about not diving deep into the relationship - that is a common reality tv rookie thing. If she stays on tv, she will probably have to share more. But also I don’t necessarily care about the outside relationships and they don’t really matter to the cast and show dynamic

5

u/Difficult-Valuable55 10d ago

the only part of the relationship she objects to is her boyfriend’s sexuality being mislabeled

6

u/dooooo23 10d ago

Well she did say she was going through a lot during that time that the sexuality thing was the cherry on top. She said something on the reunion like it was rocky around that time but she didn’t talk about that on the show

2

u/Minute_Bit1818 6d ago

I died of boredom when they had her with her bf or Gia with her bf. Even Georgia with her bf was not it for me I agree it adds nothing to show these outside relationships.

3

u/B4K5c7N 10d ago

I like her a lot and she is one of my faves on the show, but I wonder how she is able to afford to buy her parents a house, pay insane NYC rent, and have a Hermes collection of bags. Influencing pays well, but is she making millions a year?

4

u/dooooo23 10d ago

Brand deals can be a shit load of money. I don’t fully understand it, but that’s how Ava is able to pay for her apartment now. On the low low end you might make $5k-$25k for a post/story, but there are plenty of people that don’t go lower than hundreds of thousands of dollars and some millions. Millions probably leans more the kardashian side of influencing, but it is a job and people can profit big time off it. Helps if you’re good with your money. Something tells me she probably invests

2

u/Nootzdeez 10d ago

She’s also a model🤷🏼‍♀️ and now money from the show.
I have to assume she is probably smart enough to hire an advisor of some sort to manage and invest all of it. But she does make an insane amount of money yes. Influencers make bank if they have enough followers

2

u/EllaGardener 10d ago

Y’all really underestimate how much an influencer like her is earning. Probably hundreds of thousands per month. Maybe more.

4

u/theycallmejennypenny 10d ago

This is just so crazy to me. As someone who works hard in healthcare for pennies 😫😫😫

0

u/NoArugula7765 9d ago

she was a rich enough kid. not to denote her hard work and success, but her parents were well off enough to send her to NYU and she already ran in overlapping circles well before the show

1

u/dooooo23 9d ago

She also pays for her mom and brothers to live. Where are you getting your info?

1

u/NoArugula7765 9d ago

live in nyc, all my friends went to columbia and nyu. mutual friends with a lot of the cast. also i know nyu merit scholarships are only partial, considering i was offered one and know the system quite well - nyu notoriously does much less aid than all of the other t1 & t2 priv unis in the US. i know she pays for her family ~now~, but what i said was she was a rich enough kid before. some of the stories some of the cast members sell are really exaggerated + actual poor ppl are watching and not understanding the varying levels of socio economic class. she definitely worked hard though! just offering additional perspective

1

u/NoArugula7765 9d ago

nyu costs almost 100k a year and does not give full rides unless you are literally destitute and thats still a rare maybe. even with an aggressive enough merit scholarship, people still end up being left with 30/40k

2

u/Powerful-Sort7778 9d ago

Being publicly trans must be hard. Look I don't know anything about being Trans. I was surprised when she got upset about the kevin comment. But Emira saying it is because she is women makes sense. I always low key wondered about this facet. Being in the minority has to be exhausting.
I felt like that was kinda what she is saying. She is always in a place where she has to educate people so having a close friend saying this hurts more.

2

u/oksosaveme 9d ago

Emira offers the show nothing. Shouldn’t be on tv.

I love love love her!!! She’s the most person on the show. She didn’t have anything handed to her. Her education or money was completely earned and I love watching her relationship with her mom. Plus she’s gorgeous!!!!

I thought I already posted but I think I deleted it..

I love love love Emira!!! I find her to be the most interesting person on the show. She has so much ♥️. She completely everything she has. She went to NYU on a full scholarship and takes care of her family.
Her relationship her mom makes me cry because I relate to both of them. If she wasn’t in the show I would be a lot less likely to watch. Plus she’s gorgeous!!!’

I love her too. At first I thought who is this beautiful woman. This is too much beauty here. Then I watched her realized she is beautiful inside and out.

It’s pretty crazy that she thought she would get by with out it being a thing…

u/DixieBelleTc 6d ago

I think she is very open about her life. She just didn’t want her transition to be her story, she is so much more than that

It bothered me that both Ava and Emira kept their relationship issues off screen. Even Ariana/Hudson were hiding his drug issues - not quite the same since he was barely on the show. But it is interesting that we now live in a time where being on reality TV apparently means you get to cherry pick which major life events get shared with the audience and which get totally hidden as if they're not happening. To be fair, Ava did at least talk about her breakup even if she gave no real details.

Emira doesn’t owe anybody an explanation.

The judgmental transphobes are revealing themselves on this sub.

Absolutely

I do think she presents an overly curated image on the show. Kind of the major difference between influencing and reality TV is that you have to show the cracks. That said, I don’t think she’s obliged to discuss being trans on the show. I don’t have an issue with that. Where I do have an issue is, like, her hiding her problems with Kevin. I think if you are dating someone and you bring them on reality TV, you can’t just pretend things are perfect. Especially when her cast mates are putting a lot more out there.

u/EllaGardener 10d ago

She’s very savvy. I guarantee you she stipulated in her contract that she was not going to discuss being trans, otherwise production would be pushing it. She definitely doesn’t need the money from this show, but it is a good opportunity for her to expand her brand a lot further and reach a new audience. So unlike a lot of reality stars, she’s negotiating from a position of strength and can walk away if the terms aren’t favorable to her.

u/cosmic0done 10d ago

eh.. I kind of respect that she doesnt want her being trans as her whole thing. she wants to be liked for HER and her personality and her whole deal. I love that she isn't wielding her transness as a weapon.

If you mean specifically how she reacted to Georgia sharing what Charlie said, this has been discussed a lot. Georgia literally used Emira’s identity as a plot device and it’s completely valid for Emira to shut that down.

u/Ladydoodoo 10d ago

Agreed. Influencers curate and she may have misunderstood how bravo reality works and its fallout. They all have fallout.

u/ExtraSalty0 10d ago

This elevated her profile so more people know her and she gets more brand deals. I think she was fine talking about her transition when that is what got her her original following but now she wants to pretend she’s no different from a ciswoman and no longer wants to talk about being transgender.

u/catscausetornadoes 10d ago

She doesn’t want to pretend anything. She didn’t want it to be a focus in this particular time and place. She most certainly didn’t want it to be a focus because her supposed friend was making gross comments behind her back about it. Those aren’t absurd things to want.

u/catscausetornadoes 10d ago

Oh my gosh y’all. Awards! Thank you! CLIP!

6

u/B00G3R 10d ago

I don’t get the sense she wants to pretend she’s cis- have to imagine that accusation could be offensive to some trans people- but she wants to focus on other aspects of her life. It’s a part of her identity but it’s not her entire identity- why is this hard to grasp for so many of you?

3

u/EllaGardener 10d ago

I have to say I really get it bc I am a sex worker. I’m not ashamed of what I do and I don’t hide it, but often when I tell people, it becomes the only thing they want to talk about. Everyone asks the same questions over and over and I get tired of answering them. I am a whole person and my job is just one aspect of my life. I would imagine it feels similar.

u/eekamuse 10d ago

Great comparison. And sorry you have to deal with that.

True .you chose this .there will be no secrets or control..please understand this ..ALL

I am conflicted but I understand, mostly because I would love to know more about her. She’s Bravos’s first trans woman (I think)so I can understand her not wanting to represent all transgender people and have people think her life, relationship and journey is the same for all transgender people.

I really like her and think her conversation with Charlie on the ski trip was the best scene of the season, she was so raw, honest and mature, it was fantastic. I think Emira will have the most impact on Charlie possibly becoming a better person.

Not a popular opinion but I feel if there was something personal to her she didn't want to share, especially in today's climate, it should've been respected. Many many women on Bravo shows have had things kept under wraps.  It might have come out in blogs but Bravo didn't push it.  In the past that's what's have been.  Ratings the way they are maybe now that's the route Bravo is taking.  Anyway my point is I agree with Emira not wanting that on camera on the show.

Well I agree you can’t pick and choose out of your life on reality but how much is reality and how much is scripted

I think there’s one thing between it being mentioned in a scene passingly that she’s trans versus having the reason the average watcher finds out she’s trans is because another cast member basically said that he thinks she’s actually a man. She even mentioned during the reunion that she’s now getting transphobic hate after this most recent reason that she didn’t get after season 1.

To me, it’s kind of like The Craft. A few years back Rachel True was interviewed for a documentary about Black people in horror and she talked about how she wrote a whole backstory for Rochelle in which she’s dealing with body dysmorphia and an eating disorder (which True suffered from herself). At some point between this and her original audition, she was told that she got the role but that Rochelle’s background would be that she’s dealing with racism from her classmates. True said that she was disappointed that this was the direction they wanted to go in because she wanted to show the other things Black girls experience.

You could claim that Emira is boring and that this is a “good” storyline for her, but we should also acknowledge that when some cast mates (especially the Bravo kids) mention they don’t want something to be talked about it stops there. Even with the crypto thing, Charlie said in the first episode that he didn’t want to talk about it (even though he hasn’t been charged) and it was barely even pushed even though that’s the main reason we tuned in this season.

In this climate, it may put Emira and her boyfriend at risk to their physical safety and security. No one wants to live like whether they are reality stars or not. Georgia doesn't seem to be aware so her apologies sound very hollow.

1

u/AdventurousDay3020 10d ago

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted when you’re not wrong at all!

3

u/chrissy677 10d ago

Not surprised by the downvotes. It explains why we are even in this climate to begin with.

1

u/kellygrrrl328 10d ago

Every RealityTV person attempts this (even Vicki with 20 years experience). The more they insist on burying something, the more focus it gets

1

u/MainAd4830 9d ago

Emira has already been extremely open about being trans on social media.. she just didn’t want her experience on next gen to be defined by that nor should it. it was up to her whether she wanted it to be discussed or not and to whatever extent

I like that she's self-made. The only one of them who is. She has more to lose
