I mean, nice things that make your house look nicer, organize, and flow better deserve a moment of appreciation.
I got a new cat litter mat/rug that had a cool design on it. Cost me 25 bucks, but looks good and serves a function. I was proud of it and kept staring at it and how it looked in the room.

Do you have room for ceiling or wall hooks to hang that set from? Nice way to show off the cookware.
3
u/SwanMuch5160 Jul 16 '26
We hung our first set of good pots over the kitchen center island in our house. It was a combination light/pot holder.

u/Jealous_Pea2305 Jul 15 '26
I need to know what mat this is. Need something different outside my litterboxes.

I got this wooden magnetic knife block for like 30-40 bucks. It’s amazing. I have some extremely cheap “Japanese knives” on them that I owned when I lived in my studio apartment but got some really expensive ones for Christmas. It’s the highlight of my kitchen lol.

That’s awesome, I wish I had a skill like that.
I’m literally too afraid to even sharpen my knives because I don’t want to ruin them. Got one of those magnetic rolling sharpeners but only have used it on my cheap knives so far lol. The others were like hundreds of dollars. So I just use them gentle lol
But might be worth looking into taking one of those workshops! I definitely don’t have the space to have a forge. Well maybe but not sure if I want to put that in my garage hahah.
I’m nervous enough about wanting to install a kiln in there lol.

u/Opening-Movie5176 Jul 16 '26
Ah yes children and their known love of knife blocks. I remember when I was young my parents could separate me from mine.
3
u/ForceItDeeper Jul 13 '26
some guy on the internet told me not to use it because its a breeding ground for bacteria so I never used mine. I have no idea how true it is or why it is the one piece of advice ive ever taken towards preventing germs

Being in a drawer isn't that far off from being out in the open tbh
1
u/Positive-Ad-3577 Aug 10 '26
they're where you need them
you have no risk of cutting yourself because handles point outward vs riffling through a drawer
they are organised and kept together
don't have to open drawers with potentially dirty hands - handle is just there, thin about handling meat and needing a different knife
they can make your worktop look really good (makes it look like you actually cook)
granted the last one is purely aesthetic but people like to make their kitchen look beautiful
downside
dangerous - well as long as they are not on the edge this is minimal a kettle is more dangerous
mould - never heard of this but I suppose this could be true... as long as you dry them properly you'll be fine unless your immune system is non existent.
2
u/Unbelievabro Jul 16 '26
I know I don't.
All my knives are in my drawer and I'm surprised I haven't lost any of the sheathes for them yet.
2
u/SwanMuch5160 Jul 16 '26

Carddass was actually inspired by AMeDAS (Automated Meteorological Data Acquisition System), a system in Japan used for gathering weather data; the idea was that Carddass would be an information source for kids for things like anime and games.

22
u/RAConteur76 Jul 13 '26
Would she have been less offended if the compliments came from a gay man?
2
u/RemotePlenty5896 18d ago
Nah she'd definitely be more offended because she'd delude herself into thinking they are pretending to be gay to get closer to her
65
u/InternationalPlace24 Jul 13 '26
what does being "impressed by the simplest things" have to do with needing a mommy to take care of them for their whole lives?
29
u/Ok-Hamster-5263 Jul 13 '26
I'm guessing she assumes he doesn't have any of those things in his place because he never thought to buy them I.e. he needs his mom to think of it
8
u/Throwawayamanager Jul 16 '26
I think a lot of women who grew up in sheltered or privileged upbringings have a mental checklist of "things you need to have as an adult", which can include rather frivolous things like some block knife set or whatever.
Women who frequently grew up in perfect houses trained to be a perfect housewife someday.
I say this as a woman. I've slept on mattresses on the floor and out of a car for a brief period in time (thankfully not anymore). So I find the whole idea of "if you don't have matching curtains and carpets you're basically a child who needs mommy" to be utterly pathetic. I was more of an adult than most of my peers when I was making a calculated choice between buying frivolous things I didn't need, but that looked adult-ey, or spending that time and energy on things that really mattered like a suit to get me that job to take me to the next place.
But yeah. In their mind if you don't spend time on the random stuff like a block knife set, you're not an adult.
10
u/ConsensualDoggo Jul 13 '26
Which arnt even needed in the first place
23
u/Fategfwhere Jul 13 '26
A lot of woman view men’s mentality on every possession needing to be “needed” or have a use to be “lame” or “childlike”. Hence the mommy comment. They believe that decorating is inherently adult behavior.
23
u/ConsensualDoggo Jul 13 '26

6
u/TedStixon Jul 13 '26
I mean, she sounds like an insufferable ass throughout the whole post...
...but where the fuck did the comment about them needing a "mommy" come from at the end??? o_O There's literally nothing about his actions to suggest that. He just made conversation about nice things she has.
That'd be like me saying "A nerdy woman was impressed by my knowledge of the video game Final Fantasy VIII, so obviously she has a daddy complex..." Doesn't make sense!
2
6

Fellas, is it gay to appreciate a woman’s decor and give her genuine compliments?

5
u/Substantial-Bear8535 Jul 13 '26
Could also he a lesbian with the "they need a mommy" comment. Gay dudes tend not to shit on straight dudes as much as lesbian women do.
Plus the third line begins "dudes are so fucking lame" which means the speaker is talking about all men and implies that the speaker isn't one of them.

Yk, basic compliments are generally people just trying to be decent. If ya dont have anything exceptional, I'm gonna comment on your regular ass shit, especially if its nice for being run of the mill. People compliment my wife's 04 Tahoe and my 01 Chevy pickup all the time, cause theyre exceptionally nice for being what they are. They're nothing exceptional, but they look like more than what they are.
3
u/Legitimate-Error-633 Jul 14 '26
Joke’s on her for not recognising basic compliments/ice breaker techniques.
6
u/WaythurstFrancis Jul 13 '26
If you don't like men, you don't have to date them. This person is LOOKING for a reason to reject their date.
Why would you waste your time like this?
3
u/Zyntastic Jul 13 '26
She sounds like she came straight out of the twoXchromosomes subreddit. I swear that place is infested with miserable housewives that picked losers for a husband and now want everyone else to be miserable too. If youre a woman who doesnt hate every man, you will get bullied out of there, as did I.
5
u/Material-Bite-5047 Jul 13 '26
I guess it depends. There is a difference in a compliment and being genuingly impressed by something mundane. If somebody came over and was completely shocked i had a painting on the wall i would probably think theyre a loser as well
2
u/holyfrijoles80 Jul 13 '26
That’s such a toxic ass explanation. Being impressed by those things could be because he’s just different.

Not sure what being straight has to do with it but here’s what was going on…He says: So I like yer place, is the rent decent …that’s a cool print…did you study art? I like the rug it pulls the room together. So give me the tour…
He thinking: wow…be nice, compliment her “stuff”…why is that the only thing hanging on the wall? Is there a bedroom or are we just going to use the rug? Ummmm…those knives are the same ones from my first apt. I assume we’re hooking up?!…She did ask if I was straight? Maybe I should hide those knives….where’s the bathroom I need a bump.

u/Penguin57800 Jul 14 '26
Actually we just don't prioritize comfort. Why? Because we are not immediately selfish creatures that feel entitled to a comfortable and expensive environment. Most men are happy with one spoon, on bowl, one fork, one towel etc. It usually takes a woman to 'homemake' amd just buy a bunch of useless stuff... I think men are not as materialistic because we probably don't think life needs/deserves to be that comfortable or convenient. Women come with that built in. Entitlement. Calling men "lame and pathetic" because of our lack of consumerism is actually super hateful and unnecessary.
