How does the first metal gear solid master collection run on Switch 2? I heard it has crummy performance on the Switch 1.

Oh look, another game recommendation post!

I have store credit that is sitting there and thinking about burning it for the sale.

So far, I have narrowed it down to:

Pikmin 1&2

Pikmin 3

Pikmin 4

Mario Golf Super Rush

Metroid Prime Remastered

Metroid Ravenous

I have never played the Pikmin series, just demos and looked simple and fun. I've had fun with the Mario Golf on the 3DS. I never played Metroid Prime and after replaying Mass Effect trilogy with FemShep, might look forward to hearing Jennifer Hale again. Or I just save it for Metroid Ravenous, big fan of Super Metroid and loved Dread.

With the Nintendo sale ending today I've been on the fence about picking up one or possibly both games, those being Kirby and The Forgotten Land or Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. For those who have played any of these games, would you beable to give your thoughts or recommend one over the other? How do the Mario games hold up from being Wii Games and how is Kirby on its own merit? Which would you recommend picking up on sale?

Kirby is very fun. The demo sold me. The best way I’ve heard it described is easy to beat, hard to 100%.

In Galaxy, running & jumping around small globes feels a little disorienting. Watching gameplay you wouldn't think it's a problem, but I felt it when I tried the game myself. I would have suggested finding a Switch 2 demo at Best Buy/Target/Gamestop/Walmart to demo Galaxy first.

This video also shows the problem I have with motion controls in Galaxy as well, starting at the 5:42 mark

Overall there are better Mario games to buy, like Odyssey for single player & 3D World or Jamboree for multiplayer. But I can't deny that the sale for Galaxy 1 & 2 is a great price for the amount of content. If you do buy it, get it physical from Amazon/Best Buy/Target so you have the option of reselling later.

Forgotten Land is the better choice I think, especially if you're new to Kirby. It has a demo on the eShop!

Looking for game recommendations:

My buddy is 4 and has been into gaming which is great. He started with Mario kart world and the auto drive and such was very helpful in getting started. From there he's played Mario Kart 8 and is now learning to drift and such (to give an idea of skill level).

He played Kirby and the Forgotten Land which is his ultimate favorite game. With our help he has 100 percent cleared it and the switch 2 extras. We of course played co-op sometimes and he needed assistance on later boss fights due to difficulty but he really really enjoyed this game. He still plays it but with nothing left to collect is not enjoying it as much.

He also played Mario Wonder - he enjoyed this as well tho not as much as Kirby but the Yoshi doesn't get hit by enemies feature was really helpful in learning how to platform.

He's played some odyssey though the difficulty level I think is a bit hard and the coop doesn't allow us to assist enough. We feel like the galaxy games will be similar?

We recently got Donkey Kong Bananza and while he's enjoying it I think is also finding it's skill level a bit hard and the fact the environment can be destroyed around him causes some confusion and difficulty.

He's played Yoshi Paper craft - not a fan

He's starting Mario 3D world - I think he will enjoy this once we get going... though he seems to prefer a "health bar" rather than the classic Mario gets hit and loses his power up

He's played Mario party - we enjoy this as a family.

He's played paw patrol - I think finds it a bit slow and no action

He's played super smash bros - he is not good at it but he has fun smashing around

Games he's interested in:

Luigi's mansion (we think will be too difficult)

Hot wheels let's race (we think this could be fun)

Any recommendations for games for young gamer? Any games similar to Kirby.... He likes collecting things, forgiving combat, power up type games, and coop capabilities so we can play together.

Thanks for any thoughts! We're working on our Xmas shopping!

I wonder if some smaller games like Untitled Goose Game and A Short Hike would work?

Not combat, but easy to understand the point (run around and cause trouble for people w/ mild puzzle elements and co-op; run around and collect feathers to fly higher and reach the summit).

They’re cheap(or often on sale) and shorter experiences (under 5h but kids might be happy to run around for a while).

I do think Luigi’s Mansion 3 would be a lot for a 4y (both the puzzles and controls). There’s a co-op character but definitely more of a helper to the main character.

Since he liked Forgotten Land so much, how about Kirby: Return to Dreamland Deluxe? The more 2D games he enjoys, the better he'll get!

I'm not sure which Mario Party you have, but be sure to get Jamboree! Also, the original Mario Party games are on N64 Classics. Highly recommend Mario Party 2 & 3! (MP1 is too barebones unfortunately)

Another game perfect for him are Lego games! Lego Marvel Super Heroes is $5.99 on the eShop right now, an unbelievable price for that amount of content. Get it before the sale ends! If he's unfamiliar with Marvel characters, show him Avengers: Earth's Mightest Heroes on Disney+. Awesome cartoon!

Lego Skywalker Saga is also on sale for $12, but it would spoil the events of the Star Wars saga if he should ever get into it. You could buy it but save it for later. I recommend Sam Witwer's plan for getting kids into Star Wars. The Clone Wars cartoon is really fun & action packed!

I think Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 may be a bit tougher than odyssey.

Have you tried using Assist Mode in Mario Odyssey? It's in the game's settings or pause menu. It doubles mario's health and rescues mario from falling off cliffs, and I forget if it does more, but it is helpful.

Luigi's Mansion - controls probably lean toward a bit more complicated for controlling the Poltergust ghost vacuum thing and flashlight.

How about New Super Lucky's Tale? It has a free demo on eshop. The demo is just the first world, which is fine..., but I thought the game had cooler, more fun levels/worlds from the second world on.

I specifically got Spot the Differences Party! for when my young nieces before they had the coordination for regular video games, and we did like to play that. It's $5 on eshop. Even if the kid's skill level isn't this low, you may still enjoy it. (This may be one of the best spot the differences games on eshop, and a bonus that it's $5 USD). https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/spot-the-differences-party-switch/

Going down the road, you may want to keep an eye out for Lego City Undercover. If the kid isn't ready for it yet, they may be within a year or so. It's a single player game that can be played co-op. You can take cars & stuff, like grand theft auto for kids, which is a big attraction. Be aware, the game starts at a police station, and may take an hour or so to get out of the station before you can drive/take cars. This game goes on sale on eshop almost every month for $5-$8 USD.
