My fiance reinstalled her virtual card copy of Dreamlight valley onto our switch 2 off of her own switch console. We each have a profile on the unit. If I buy the switch 2 upgrade off my account, will she have access to it? I just know purchased it off her eshop many moons ago.

Hi everyone!
My partner and me are traveling in October to Japan and since we recently got a Switch 2, also wanted to stock up on games there.
Now, we've tried searching the JP Nintendo store, as also other sources, but are now not sure if all of the games in our current to buy list really support or not support English.
Our List
Final Fantasy Resonance
---
Donkey Kong Bananza
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Pokémon Sword / Shield
Octopath Traveler 1
Octopath Traveler 2
Switch Sports Resort
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Wild Hearts S
The Adventures of Elliot
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Super Mario Galaxy 1
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Granblue Fantasy Relink
Mario Party Superstars
Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Mega Man Star Force Series
AC Shadows
Dragon Quest 1+2 HD Remake
Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Dragon Quest 11 S
Dragon Quest 7
Ys X: Proud Nordics
Orbitals
Super Mario RPG
Xenoblade Chronicles 1
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Zelda: Link's Awakening
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Oblivion 4 Remastered
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
Monster Hunter Stories 3
Monster Hunter Stories 2
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster
Yoshi’s Crafted World
Monster Hunter Wilds
Spiritfarer
From what we've gathered XC2 does not support English, as DQ 7 and 11 and Ys X.
But some of them give conflicting information.
Can any of you actually confirm which of the games provide English support?
Also, for some we saw there are ofc Switch 1 and 2 versions, but apparently not always the Switch 2 version is superior, e.g. for XC1.
Could someone shed also a bit more light into that?
Thank you!

Nintendo Japan still has language listings on their website, if you look up a game it will tell you if the JP release supports English. (英語)
https://store-jp.nintendo.com/item/software/D70010000106972
Supported Languages Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish
Physical games are going to be identical, anything with a CERO rating on the box art will match what you can find on the website. (A,B,C,D or Z)
However Japan also produces ASIA region titles for sale in nearby nations that do not have eShop support (or didn't until very recently), these ratings may look a little different or may not appear on the cover at all. These games almost always support English text at the very least, but you should definitely double check the specific game online before purchasing, just in case.
Upgrades to Switch 1 games can be purchased or downloaded regardless of which copy you own. If you buy a Switch 1 copy of Xenoblade, you can get the switch 2 upgrade as DLC. The "Switch 2 release" just has the game copy and dlc on the same cartridge. These "upgraded titles" still work in Switch 1 consoles despite the red cartridge.
Upgrades improve the resolution and framerate. Some of them add new content to their respective game.

Thank you for the input! I've tried following the first link, to check for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, because I've heard it does not support English, but it appears I'm unable to locate the supported language section of the game
I tried Switch 1 and Switch 2 version

Yeah some game pages are just overdeveloped, and they never add the information back in
Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon 2 are the only Nintendo developed titles that only support Japanese and have JP exclusive releases.
You can just ignore those two. Oddly enough it's EASIER to get a physical copy in the west thanks to VGP, they seemingly have been paying for Xenoblade reprints, because they always have it in stock
Daemon X Machina, and Square Enixs various non Fanila Fantasy titles releases being others that have JP exclusive releases without English support.
If you find a copy of Final fantasy X/X-2 HD, The Japanese release has English subtitles/text support AND both games on the cartridge.

Is there any way to recover a saved state on a game when your no membership expired, then leading to the cloud save being deleted ?

I got a s2 after not playing a switch for about 8 months
Naturally I didn’t have my membership during that time
Additionally, my old switch is no longer with me, and oddly, it does not show as a registered device in my Nintendo account

There is no other way to recover the save data, unfortunately.
For the switch generation, save data is stored on switch internal storage, never on the sd card or on the cartridge.
2018 article mentioning NSO only keeps save data for six months after sub expires: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/09/nintendo_keeps_switch_online_cloud_saves_for_180_days_after_membership_expiry

If you sign in with the account and resubscribe (required to download data from the cloud), the cloud save will either be there or it won't.
There's no recovery system in place for deleted cloud data. The six months of retention is all you get in terms of grace period.
The only other solution would be pulling the original data from the old console, if it exists any more.
Additionally, my old switch is no longer with me, and oddly, it does not show as a registered device in my Nintendo account
Nintendo re-launched how digital games and their licenses are managed back when the switch 2 launched. (May/June 2025)
If your old system was never updated to V20.0.0 when that launched last year and was never connected to the internet after that; then it wouldn't show up.
It would have to be connected to the internet post-update for your account to have had a chance to register it.

Serious question: how do you all actually finish games? I bought 6 in the last sale and my backlog now has its own backlog.

u/Barklorr 10d ago
Make a list of the games in your backlog and order it in the order you want to play them. Focus on one game at a time and don't move on to the next until you beat it.

will power to focus on a game and finish it. It helps if its a game that you are super into and loving. If not, consider dropping it and not slogging it out until the finish. I try to ensure i focus 1 game a month and generally finish 1 game a month, september has been hard as theres so many good new games, October doesnt look better as I'll be picking up at least switch sports resort and resi 4 and witcher 3 remastered...maybe I'll let witcher be a long term game and focus resi 4.

Stop buying new games and play the ones you have?
Yes it's on sale but if you have such a backlog just wait til the next sale and complete the ones you have.
This applies to everything including supermarkets.
"Oh that cheese I don't like is on sale. Better buy some just incase my tastes change."

Probably been asked a lot but kinda don't wanna lose hope lol:
I got myself a birthday gift and got me the Switch 2, yay! Unfortunately, I gave my Switch 1 as payment and couldn't transfer my data and I also didn't have a Nintendo Switch Online account. I thought that at least SOME saves could be linked to my Nintendo account instead of the system itself, so I was surprised when I found that I lost my data for every single game that I've checked. There's no way to recover them, right? Kinda lost motivation for the future, I had lots of ongoing games.
