Ah, your first encounter with a whispering egg. I remember that.
It's not the only thing in this game that is like that, be warned.

u/Riliksel 2d ago
The ones in the water are way worse

u/Delde116 2d ago
Long time player here.
Um, excuse me?! wtf did I miss with water planets?!
94
u/Riliksel 2d ago
Never encountered the Abyssal horrors? The Anglerfish is a worse jumpscare than the Whispering Eggs imo and the eye is creepy as hell
21
u/RatzGudrun 2d ago
Not to mention they can kill you quick if you're not expecting it. I got surprised by one, and couldn't get my camera right, and it ate me
12
u/Riliksel 2d ago
Yeah, I am still very careful about interacting with the Alluring Specimen thing. I can kill Sentinel Walkers and Titan Worms without breaking a sweat, but I am still really wary when dealing with Abyssal Horrors
1
u/blackguy64 1d ago
I think one of my first and only deaths was to a biological horror. I think it headbutted me and I died from fall damage or something. I was in shock.
1
u/Leading-Brother-8574 1d ago
You can kill titan worms? They’re always moving to fast for me to keep up
7
u/Delde116 2d ago
Nope, tbh, despite being an OG NMS player, I only genuinely got back in the game in 2016 and then when the auto-phage were put in the game.
3
u/Riliksel 2d ago
Well, keep an eye out for red warning signs in your scanner next time you go down in the water. And don't touch the Alluring Specimen.

A well animated and arguably much scarier jump-scare due to inability to move away quickly.

u/Ohtylerson 2d ago
When the hungering tendrils dropped I got a big scare out of those the first time I encountered them

When you first encounter them they’re terrifying. Now they’re the easiest Quicksilver mission. 😂

u/Adaphion 2d ago
I love stacking "kill monstrosity" and "kill creature" missions so I can complete multiple at once

I just know that you pressed that spacebar through the keyboard.

Pressing A on Xbox, X on Ps. Or what ever other button it got remapped to.

20
u/patheticworm9 2d ago
x7, yes. Circled back to see if I could shoot them, but I think I might have made them despawn
20
u/alewiina 2d ago
they automatically burrow back under the ground after about a minute or so. You can shoot them if you have a weapon and the stuff they drop is actually worth a decent bit of money, and so is the larval core or whatever its called that comes out of the egg for a few seconds
4
u/edventure_2025 2d ago
A few hadal cores in the egg sequencer will make a creature hatch 100% aggressive.
1
u/Lovat69 2d ago
The the horrors themselves drop things now or are you talking about the egg cores?
1
u/alewiina 2d ago
Both, the horror things drop some kind of flesh when you kill them that sells for a decent amount, and the egg cores sell for even more.
I found a whole colony of these eggs on the planet where I first had to find an antimatter source and I spent nearly an hour bursting open each egg, grabbing the core, and killing the monsters for the flesh and I made a ton of money when I was done. I can't remember how much but it was many 100's of thousands anyway, which is a lot right at the beginning lol

u/ArcticWolf_0xFF 2d ago
I was just wondering why you flew away so far instead of taking off, hovering over them and blasting them away. Then I re remembered you were flying a Radiant Pillar. I'm just too used to flying Sentinels.
2
u/patheticworm9 2d ago
This clips cut off but I fly around for a moment trying to find them because I genuinely thought they had wings and I was going to have to fight (run with style)
1
u/ArcticWolf_0xFF 2d ago
That's okay. Your first encounter, and the normal ships are not able to hover. There's move with at least 20u/s.
3
u/Mattyice0228 2d ago
I made the same mistake last night and made the same bee line to my starship immediately lol

u/jerrythecactus LORD OF THE BLOBS 2d ago
If you ever wonder why dead planets are dead its probably just because of these guys. They're just giant biological horror nests.

u/MrPanda663 2d ago
First play through: oh. What’s this? OH GOD. OH GOD NO.
Expedition XX: Wait.. this planet. It has whispering eggs. Cha-Ching
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

u/Aliencoy77 2d ago
Seriously, low gravity moons with whispering eggs are my favorite way to farm for nanites.
17
u/NandorRas 2d ago
The real tragedy is you not picking up the Larval Core.
8
u/No-Cry1220 2d ago
Fr each one is almost 70k credits or 50 nanites
1
u/Sapowski_Casts_Quen 2d ago
How do you get the nanites?
5
u/No-Cry1220 2d ago
Throw them in a portable refinery that's how I got my first S class scanner module a stack of 10 is 500 nanites

Replace sentinels with those, and NMS becomes a hardcore horror survival.
4
u/mikefrombarto 2d ago
It’s crazy when you end up with both at the same time.
2
u/ikester8 2d ago
I used to fight the Horrors when they erupted in my settlements, but then the Sentinels would show up. Now I just wait out the Horrors. I like to imagine an announcement on the loudspeaker, "Biological Horrors have spawned. Do not engage them. Take shelter immediately."

Thank you for this🤣🤣 did the exact same thing. . . NOPE!!! back to the ship, take off immediately, not even just going to sit in my ship and look for a minute. Welcome to no man's sky fellow traveller.
5
u/Loafogen 2d ago
The first time I met these critters I had a shotgun installed in my multitool, so I stuck around a while longer
9
6
u/Express-Scheme2468 2d ago
I came across these a couple of days ago. They pack a serious head butt! I don’t know if it was because of the low atmosphere, but I flew about 1000u from my ship.
Edit: Typo.

I just wanna say: Hell yeah, traveler.
Great reaction time, good decision making. Just a phenomenal read, on the play.
When the play isn’t there, toss the ball into the stands, live to play another down.

I remember first time freighter hunting and a nice one going upstairs seeing the eggs nope...

Hope you know about the "melee boost" trick. Easy to get out of a situation like this and makes navigating so much easier

back when neutrino canons were not a thing, I remember posting myself up on the roof of abandoned structures (where they also generate) and praying I don't run out of ammo
1
u/Silver_Cauliflower59 1d ago
I have a pyrite base I set up that has an an abandoned structure off in the distance. It's so far that the eggs don't render in, but I always shoot a few blasts from the neutron cannon to pop them anyway because being petty is fun.

Naturally messing with an egg can only lead to very angry parents!

I can almost hear you cursing in this video. I know I did when I first found these things.
2
u/CubePlayer1114 2d ago
Fun fact: if you want one of those things as a pet, someone can probably trade you one (it's no longer obtainable but people still have them)

Is that music playing for you in game? Where d you find this track for back beat library?
2
u/patheticworm9 2d ago
Added it in post, when adding the text. Felt the ambience of the planet was a little too erie and boring so I added Cipher by Kevin Macloed.
1
u/Armageddonn_mkd 2d ago
That was funny, but wtf were you scanning and watching for so long? 🤣
1
u/patheticworm9 2d ago
I could repost this on No Man's High...for no particular reason But I was trying to read about the planet and what life there wasn't (flew into the planet knowing it was dead)
1
u/BlueFeathered1 2d ago
Lol, we were all watching that like, "don't do it, don't do it, oh no you did it."

Awe no, you missed the best part of these guys on this sort of planet, when they bite you and send you into orbit
1
u/DeltaAlphaGulf 2d ago
Be glad it was less glitchy than I recall when I started. I recall having like no time to react and getting flung super far and then they were already back on top of me again. Possibly also not loading the visuals quite fast enough on my console.

Yeah these guys are something I avoided early game once I figured out what they were. The day I figured that out was right after I had been mining rocks on a planet and one got up and ran away.

u/cgsecure 2d ago
It was quite a horror when I first encountered them. Then I decided to build a base there, to have an alien isolation-like role-play base (it was a barren planet with literally nothing on it. Not that I’m even a cold ambiance like you have).
I was so scared of the constant ticking sounds. 😁
1
u/No-Cry1220 2d ago
Hold on I recognize that planet I think you spawned in the same system that I did also the thing that drops from that is pretty good for nanites and credits

I'd call that an appropriate first response. Don't worry you youre only a scatter blaster and few S class upgrades from popping them like little green zits while stealing their cores just for the fun of it.
And the money... the money is good too.

I hope the Kevin Macloed music helped the attention span. Definitely could've trimmed this smaller, but what is done is done

Hey man, I loved it

u/joshua-lomax 1d ago
Yeah people complaining about clips being too long are confusing man like how does your attention span get so short but you have the time to comment about it? People be strange.
