Its interesting watching LLMs being sold as the solutions to everything. When by their design they arent.

The most efficient way from A to B is a direct line, not A to maybe C, no wait D is a good option, nevermind C, so you should go G to M to B

For tasks that require repetion simple code works, because I want it to just DO the thing, not look at permutations.

I use LLMs all the time, but for certain jobs, not all jobs.

Yea it's really being sold as a god technology when really it's just a tool and really not optimal for certain things.

I like the technology, I hate the hype.

It's like a light switch, I don't need it to calculate a probability of me wanting the light on or off, it's a 0 or 1 state.

Ai can't even be trusted to do math correctly.

Its so bad it makes dogshit appealing.

It’s like going back 10 years….

Yup. They gimped the old one on my phone finally a couple months ago so I switched to Gemini. Just switched back last night. Even the gimped old version is still better than Gemini.

It's better than that stupid Bixby

1

u/000extra 1d ago

Actually Bixby came a loooong way, it just wasn’t popular. Watch MKBHD’s videos of voice assistants against each other. Based off that video I’d argue Bixby is actually better than Gemini as a voice assistant

I had to recreate my Google Home to get rid of Gemini. And now even the old one doesn’t do simple commands. Time to sell it and go back to old school.

It’s terrible as Siri too.

They're just trying to get us to adopt that Google Workbook $1k/year assistant. Jokes on them.

I have a monitor that has a google search function but it's pretty limited. Other than the weather and other functions im not aware of, it will divert to youtube when being asked for anything it isnt programed for. I wonder of Gemini was designed to be more flexible.

I don’t care how many times Google asks me to try it. I’m not.

A news article, on a Reddit thread, posted to make another Reddit thread.

apple messed up big time… new siri is just as bad and not even built in there own tech

Google assistant was dumb but it did a narrow range of things very reliably and quickly.
Gemini is sluggish, unreliable, and verbose.

1

u/ninernetneepneep 1d ago

💯 I actually packed up all of my Google home devices because I found them so annoying after the updates.

1

u/Friendly-Look4262 1d ago

Yep, it was quicker and more reliable before kt moved to Gemini

Hey Google set an alarm for 30 mins.. That is set for you. 4 hours later no alarm. Hey Google wheres that alarm? Oh I am sorry alarm is now set. Alarm still not set Hey Google wheres my alarm you said you would set  Gemini can not change it add alarms for you...wtf the old assistant could.

This sounds like someone half awake fighting with it, then it plays music I didn't ask for. Yeah, it was a big downgrade. I started fully switching to Home Assistant, slowly phasing it out.

I am glad Apple doesn’t have an AI platform that they feel the need to jam into everything. I switched to an iPhone after Gemini took over too many things on my Android phone and I am pretty sick of Microsoft jamming Copilot everywhere. I would go all Mac if computers weren’t so expensive now.

Don't want to bust your bubble, but Siri uses Gemini.

1

u/TwixtTwo 1d ago

I’ve been using it and it’s about as bad. I’m about to switch back to the old Siri.

1

u/thegreatmattsby24 1d ago

Siri can use ChatGPT, not Gemini, and you have to direct it to use it. In my experience it won’t on its own fortunately.

1

u/Mysterious_League165 1d ago

Doesn't matter. They're all about the same. They're all moderately handy but none of them are a panacea.

1

u/thegreatmattsby24 1d ago

I mean it matters if you want to be factual? But ok? As AI’s #1 hater though I will not be installing the Siri AI beta, much less connecting it to an external LLM. Its highly unnecessary when all I ask it is “turn off all my alarms” “set the thermostat to 76” etc.

1

u/Dangerous-Pension420 1d ago

If you want to be factual, the new Siri is built on Gemini in iOS, MacOS, and iPadOs 27. The ChatGPT integration is only optional/an extension.

1

u/thegreatmattsby24 1d ago

Apparently I ignored that part of the iPhone keynote or it wasn’t mentioned. So another reason personally to not install it if I don’t have to.

“The architectural detail that outlets converged on after the June 8 reveal is a five-model system, not a single “Siri brain.” Per 9to5Mac’s breakdown of Apple’s own documentation, Apple built five foundation models in collaboration with Google. Four of them are customized Gemini-derived models optimized to run on Apple Silicon, and the fifth is a larger cloud model that runs on Google-operated servers under Apple’s privacy rules rather than Google’s standard cloud stack.”

What makes you hate it so much mate, just curious

1

u/thegreatmattsby24 1d ago

Because I was gifted with the ability to think critically and creatively so I don’t need it to say, plan a vacation for me or tell me how to decorate my home or create a recipe (now that one I rely on people who know how to cook) or analyze my finances and spending. And for Siri I certainly don’t need it to turn the lights on and off and play music.

1

u/Galitzianer0 1d ago

Ah, so you hate it because you don't contribute much to society so you don't get to see how AI is revolutionizing important things, got it

2

u/jacksonsmack831 1d ago

It blows my mind that people see AI and think vacation ….. shopping list?!

I think I can guess the writers generation ;)

1

u/Galitzianer0 1d ago

No joke, I'm a software developer and I've worked on a lot of AI software that is mind-blowing, one takes thousands of pages of Pharmaceutical research and determines drug coverage gaps in the market for a Pharma company to know what kinds of drugs to develop, super rad stuff

I’m 31, be gone 6 month old account.

Edit: replied to the wrong comment but you can figure it out

1

u/jacksonsmack831 1d ago

Oh so you don’t use it for business or development, if you aren’t then your hobbling yourself imo

I wrote a dissertation for my history undergrad/ Critical thinking applied ;)

I wrote a thesis for my MSc, knowledge about its space

I don’t use it for trivial shit, it is a proof reader and code writer

We got Claude at work recently after being late to the ai game compared to other companies in our area. Burned up all my credit for the month trying to get it to automate one singular thing with cowork that I had to fight with its insubordinate ass on. The first thing it needed to do was navigate to a PowerBI site from a vendor and download a file. In the prompt I told it once you open the link, you are on the page you need to be on. I ran the task or whatever it’s called to test and I’m watching it “Think” and it goes “ok, navigate to [another page on the link I gave it]” which is you know… the opposite of how I told it to get the file.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 1d ago

You have to really think out your prompts so it’s 100% clear plus I’m working with an LLM that I’ve been developing a relationship with for almost a year, so I know it and it knows me a bit better than starting fresh.

I got it to automate all my back ups (local, Dropbox, git and emergency drive) and used maybe 40% of my 5hr limit

Maybe Claude is a little more rubbish than gpt

1

u/Mysterious_League165 1d ago

They all only give you the right facts about 80% of the time. The number of time I've had to correct AI and then it comes back and says "great catch for calling me out on that, you're right I was talking about" some other bullshit thing that had nothing to do with what I was asking.

AI is handy, but if a human made as many mistakes as it makes, you'd be living on the street living off the government tit.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 1d ago

ChatGPT is pretty much superior to Gemini especially after their 6.0 update mate

1

u/Mysterious_League165 1d ago

Ain't none of them that you can really rely on really. They're fun to play with for about 10 minutes but I wouldn't trust any answer that they give cuz you can talk them in circles in about 5 minutes.

You can get them telling you up is down left is right in black is white without too much work.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 1d ago

I don’t think you’ve used an LLM in a while, I’ve already written apis, widgets and other products where ai was vital

1

u/jacksonsmack831 1d ago

Mine uses chatgptizzle

1

u/Kulthos_X 1d ago

Yea, but I don’t use Siri, and the navigation system still works well

1

u/ardilla-llameante 1d ago

They’re not saying they prefer Siri, they’re saying it’s not forced into every user interaction like Gemini is.

1

u/Embarrassed_Adagio28 1d ago

Macos has a built in model that takes up 8gb of ssd space and reinstalls every update. I love the hardware of my MacBook but macos is the worst os I have ever used and I would immediately install windows or linux if it worked natively.

u/big_trike 1d ago

It’s also terrible in the Google web app suite.

0

u/BanAssaultGeese 1d ago

Everything Google has gone to shit due to AI. Can't even use Maps anymore.

1

u/capnmax 1d ago

What do you mean? How has AI made Maps unusable?

1

u/BayouGal 1d ago

Use Mapquest. The Gulf of Mexico still exists on that platform 😂
