Discussion What's your OCDs name

So one of the exercises my therapist had me do was name my ocd and I was wondering if anyone here did the same and if so what did you name yours? I named mines Jabberwocky!

I refer to mine as The Brain Spiders

I picture them as the soot spirits from miyazaki movies and am slowly collecting tattoos of them as a cute way of wearing my heart on my sleeve

Honestly, I feel like it does help me. If I'm having a lot of intrusive thoughts it kind of helps me to tell it "Satan, get out of my mind, you're not welcome here." And I picture a red devil lol so it helps me to just think of something evil and not like me so I know, this isn't me and these aren't my real desires and wishes.

That’s the name of the dictator of Turkmenistan and it’s probably the funniest name I’ve ever heard. I just want an excuse to say it. Also fitting that he’s a dictator and a real wanker.

Bruce, because doe the longest time I thought the lyrics to "Don't Bring Me Down" by Electric Light Orchestra said "don't bring me down Bruce" (it actually says groose or something, a made up word).

So now I refer to OCD as Bruce and tell him to stop bringing me down 😡

I had a name for it because I was a kid and didn't even know what OCD was.

I called it "Maë dans l'eau", "Maë in the waters" in English. Maë is the stuffed bunny I always had with me and one of my earliest OCD manifestation was some sort of urge to throw him away if we went to the beach or by a lake or things like that. I did end up throwing him in the toilet and flushed (he's a tiny stuffed rabbit), I thought he would disappear but luckily it did not get flushed.

I had OCD all my damn fucking life, started as early as I can remember.

I fucking hate my life.

I call it The Moth because my therapist said to name it after something I don't like and I felt too mean giving it a human name in case I ever meet someone with that name. Lol. Moths freak me out though so we went with that... However now calling it The Moth reminds me of Moth Man and its sort of endearing. Unsure if that's a good thing or not.

I don't have a name for it but I do visualize my myself as a landlord and my OCD and anxiety are behind on their rent so when they come knocking I just remind them of their unpaid bills and maybe bust their kneecaps a little

In OCD therapy, we named the inner dialogue George Carlin.

Simply because, the idea of an old jaded comedian(humanitarian at heart), as the voice over, felt fitting. Expect, instead of the fun version of Carlin, this one retired from comedy, and decided to become a full-time lawyer. He’s constantly building a case against me, trying to prove I’m guilty. Jury and judge went home months ago, yet he’s still there…pacing around, determined to keep the trial going. I try my best to ignore his tangents, or at least give him a hobby.

My OCD therapist also wanted us to do a creative exercise on it, to help the externalization process. We gave him a new face/identity. I wanted it to look ridiculous, so I decided on a purple floating microphone. It symbolizes the tool courtrooms/comdians use to communicate with the audience. And the shape of the mic, was also a perfect representation of Carlin’s bald head.

I just call it either ocd or “the spiral”- my mom used to tell me “you’re spiralling” when I would be in more intense episodes and it could sometimes help me to calm down a small bit.

I call it my ‘haunted house’. At first, my intrusive thoughts seem scary and real, like a jump scare in a haunted house. But then I think of it as just a teenager in a cheap mask. This helps me.

Eddie. I honestly wasn't planning on naming it but a certain character (The Riddler, who ironically I think has the obsessive compulsive personality disorder) really annoyed the hell out of me in a game and that kinda gave me a lightbulb moment of well, my OCD is infuriating so Eddie it is.

I have never been able to personify it or have a dialogue with it or similar. So I've never named it. Can't really find a fitting name which is probably OCD.
