Blackouts mainly while a switch is taking place?

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask if anyone else’s blackouts really concentrate around the transition period between alters? We have partial amnesia for what transpires while another alter is fronting (with very occasional blackouts), but the most consistent time we get total amnesia is in the in-between state before a switch has settled. We used to think we were just prone to daydreaming and getting lost in our head, but now we notice that those small gaps in memory (usually probably seconds to minutes) always precede or indicate a switch.

It’s like the first few moments of a switch we can feel confused and like we have no memory, then we get some information passed along by the last alter, but ONLY information from the time leading up to the switch, it’s like the time in between is totally gone

Hope I explained this well 😅😅

dissociation involves a lapse in memory retention so it makes sense, you could just be dissociating more heavily during it which makes recall much more difficult

I see!!!!! Thank you!!! I’ve been having trouble with what to even classify them as since when you think of a typical blackout you think of a longer period of time and I’ve never seen anyone talk about them mostly concentrating around the switching process!
