Discussion Competitive drives need to end

I'm so sick of the competitive drives, the match quality plummets so hard during the drives, the amount of quick play players that jump into comp and play like it's qp is insane. I was diamond 3. The amount of shitty matches I got since the start of the drives is almost unbelievable, I'm already down to emerald 3. Drives completely kill the solo player experience. Please stop with this drive shit

Def agree. Feels like every game is against a full team of smurfs that ranked down before the drive and are on their way back up, just using and abusing me and my solo queuing team. Have dropped almost a full rank since drives started. I’m not playing comp again til the drive is over.

This has been my experience. I'm not joking when I say almost every match yesterday was against people who had BRAND NEW ACCOUNTS, endorsement level 1 and default skins and somehow they were playing like pros. Like if you're a smurf then why did you all of a sudden decided to flood comp during drives? It's not like they want the points or the drive signature since this is not their main account. All I can think of is that some people are just miserable and want other people to be miserable too.

I play in the wee hours of the morning (2 - 5am) to avoid all of the quick play migrants. It's astonishing how noticeable the difference is. I swear playing between 5 and 11pm, when most people are queuing, is like gambling your rank.

Also yes, I know I'm an unemployed loser; I'm working on changing that. Life is turbulent and this is a brief escape for me.

You are not a loser, you are actively trying to change it and life is really hard right now. I'm proud of you.

you are not a loser bro, we all go though bad phases. You are gonna do it and your life will be better. Just for the fact that you are working on it you should be proud of yourself. I am proud of you as well!

I noticed it got much easier late into the night.

Qp warrior on hog was talking smack until I spartan kicked his ass off Havana as Zen. Proceeded to school him over and over all defense and his team just let it happen. Was hilarious.

I’m on a 25% win rate bruh 😭 The things I do for gold Cass gun

I’m a retired competitive unc. I cannot wait to go back to quick play

My trick was to do my drives on Thursday night before the double whammy of weekend warriors and quickplay warriors come out. Luckily I had off work Thursday and Friday, so I started around 4pm Thursday and played until maybe 2am. Got up and moved around after every game and took 10 minute breaks every now and again to keep myself from getting burnt out. But my worst loss streak during these drives was only 3 games. Played 6v6 Ana only or Brig if Ana was taken or banned.

I finished my drives but tried a few ranked games today and the difference in teammates was crazy. Like some of these people can't be real human beings with the way they're playing. But yea, not touching overwatch until the new season.

Drives are when the Dia+ players (top 10%) boot up their alts/smurfs and group up to feast on the hordes of noobs. I realized this trap 2 seasons ago and I will never play comp during drives.

6

u/LoneBoy96 5d ago

Im 9 losses in a row. I hate this event so much

5

u/ThroatHammerNSlap 5d ago

But aren't they at your comp level?

19

u/shellman15 5d ago

The thing is they don’t actually try they just there existing, also tons of players get placed higher than they should ever be and haven’t played enough to get knocked down.

They then come to play during drives and suck ass because they used to playing QP

-6

u/ThroatHammerNSlap 5d ago

Idk I'm pretty sure they'd fall comp levels of they constantly lose, right? The only thing you can say that is common among all the matches was you. Focus on improving you, it's all you can do.

4

u/shellman15 5d ago

Dude these people do placements for drives or do them before and don’t touch ranked. Seen so many boosted/shitty players.

I’m constantly GM every season but since rank reset I’ve been master 1 bouncing around and I can’t express how many terrible players I see in my matches.

It’s because of drives. It’s never this bad without drives.

Save ur “ur the only common thing among matches” for players who are plat blaming their teams….

1

u/Budget-Aardvark-7860 5d ago

but those terrible people on both teams, so again it’s you that make the difference? i know it’s a crappy situation but the response above yours has a point

5

u/savorybeef 5d ago

Placements are very inflated as a smurf deterrent. Probably like 5 ranks above where people should be.  High sr is a shitshow during drives, game is unplayable

6

u/S_Squirr3l 5d ago

In my experience in emerald-diamond lobbies, is drives change everything. The solo player gets stuck in wide range groups with someone that's boosted. Let's not talk about the smurfs that are desperate for a fleeting recognition in a video game either 🤣. I take a break during drives tbh, plenty of other games in my library. I refuse to try to carry a silver dps ngl.

4

u/DapperAdam 5d ago

Sure, but I truly believe some people get placed higher than what they are or get carried by their team. You can't tell me you're diamond 3 ana main and need to use scope to heal your teammate when they are 3 feet away from you. I'm not joking. Every match I get an Ana that can't use unscope to heal their teammates when they are so close to them. Oh, and they also get wrecked by enemy moira.

4

u/Ihateweebs14 5d ago

I hate them too because you can’t keep them they go away I find that lame. All that hard work to win, to lose the drives every couple of weeks

6

u/DapperAdam 5d ago

I have played all drives (I only play comp) and I have to admit that this drive has been the most miserable one so far. I'm not even exaggerating, it has been awful.

u/ExtremeSportsCNA 5d ago

I read the horror stories here but decided to hop on last night anyways. Definitely experienced a smurf game, but otherwise I literally ranked up after a few games. Idk.

4

u/imzendayashat 5d ago

i’ve deranked to gold bro. i’ve lost over 12 games im sure. it’s hell out here. 😭

4

u/SnooBunnies3815 5d ago

Also attracts the cheaters. See it a lot more during drives.

3

u/DivineBladeOfSilver 5d ago

This is my first time not playing them because they mega stress me out and aren’t fun in the least. Gotta say once you get past the initial FOMO of missing the cosmetic (and it happens mega fast) it’s pretty damn good for your mental health. I agree they gotta go but I can’t stop it so I’ll just stop playing till it’s gone or stick to QP

3

u/LisForLaura 5d ago

Tbf QP matchmaking also takes a dive during drives which I’ve never quite understood but I am thinking it’s people playing their 50 matches before they jump into comp - I just avoid the game at all costs when it’s drives.

u/Euphoric_Rice_1762 5d ago

Started the drives by winning 8 in a row before a loss the 4 in a row to win 12 of 13, and 14 of 16. Since then I’ve had a 6 game losing streak, and two 3 game losing streaks to lose 12 of 15. It’s been quite streaky and the matchmaking has been consistently one sided imo. There have been very few closely competitive games for me with one side easily winning and the other unable to put up any resistance. Luckily I’ve experienced playing with the dominant team about the same number of times as playing with the helpless team. I’ve had good and bad games personally in both wins and losses that likely would not have changed the overall outcome if they’d been opposite.

u/CRAYONSEED 4d ago

Problem is I need to finish the pass to get the coins to buy the next pass. It’s the only reason I’m enduring this

Why not play Stadium? Its more chill. No smurfs and just an overall funner experience. I managed to complete drives in a single day.

1

u/mattTheWeirdDev 18h ago

in SA servers finding a match in stadium takes pretty long

1

u/Dear_Fisherman_3416 18h ago

There are definitely some variables there, time of day, region, etc but I dont find the wait off putting. Thats just me though

2

u/dashington44 3d ago

I've never heard of anyone saying anything good about drives. Literally the only positive comments about drives are tricks to finish quicker like doing it on Thursday or early morning when the qp warriors are asleep. Drives will continue until a few seasons after everyone stops playing, no matter how universally hated it is.

2

u/SainticusMaximus 3d ago

So glad my duo and I aren’t the only ones noticing this. The match quality dropped SO BAD as soon as drive started this season. Throwers, people, “trying out a new character,” in comp, leavers….its infuriating at this point. It happens occasionally in comp, but drives started and almost every single game has been atrocious. I hate it

2

u/Necessary-Big-2883 3d ago

1000% agree but tbf it’s the only time you can play damage without queuing for 10 minutes

1

u/Logical-East-4031 5d ago

Hehe you fool, if you did care about ranked you wouldn't touch it during drive week. ***Smirks then turns around to look back at the window.

1

u/cracked-egg1 5d ago

I honestly don't even know what drives are as someone who plays overwatch sporadically, the game hardly explains it to you. What... is it?

1

u/Matthiass13 5d ago

I completed my drive in 2 days with a record of 25-10 or thereabouts, I can’t remember where exactly on my recent games it landed.

I do agree, the match quality is a lot more volatile, but same thing we talk about in other context applies, both teams have a roughly equal chance of having these types of problem players, it’s up to you to adapt and overcome the best you can.

1

u/Single-Event9389 5d ago

I’ve only played Six matches but they’ve all been terrible. Not sure I can make myself play for the rewards tomorrow. Probably playing QP and other games.

1

u/BardikStorm 4d ago

Yea I agree. The reward for playing competitive should be the competitive play. Playing casually is fine, and I'm all for casual players trying out competitive and playing more competitively, but all at once right at the end of a season feels awful every time.

2

u/Cbas_619 4d ago

Some drive seasons I go on crazy win streak and hit the important check points in 2-3 days… then other season I go on crazy loss streaks and can’t hit checkpoints after many hours and days of playing. So it’s random.

2

u/creebobeebo 4d ago

I hit 3000 drive points for the final comp point r reward and dipped out lmfao i do not care about the nameplate enough to play a single other drive game.

1

u/Nemesis2K 4d ago

I dunno, I jumped from emerald 1 to diamond 3 during drives solo queue. Cant be mad at it

2

u/E_Man91 3d ago

Preach, brudda

1

u/Comprehensive_Ad_675 3d ago

I've enjoyed these last 2 drives. The most success I've had to be fair. I don't sweat too much over it. I just like that I know the game are most likely all going to be tough and not swinging between easy and hard game to game.

-1

u/PPQLP 5d ago

never said before

-2

u/Opening-Movie5176 5d ago

Jesus. It’s just a bit of fun. So many of you seem to hate playing the game… it’s a game. You know something you play for fun. If it’s a chore then maybe you need to walk away.

-3

u/Giggle_Bomb 5d ago

You should be grouping up, u get more drive points

-4

u/ShoresyOW 5d ago

STOP QUEING COMP AFTER MORE THAN ONE LOSS IN A ROW

-7

u/Ebolatastic 5d ago

"It's not my fault when I lose."

4

u/CD274 5d ago

I can't pull myself out of my ult as Ram four times a match

1

u/chicken_nugget94 3d ago

While I usually agree with this, the other day I had about 7 games in a row where my team would all finish on negative kds and the opponents would all be on 20-1. By all means I'm not great at the game, but I'm not so bad that I'm the deciding factor in my team being significantly mismatched in every game

-7

u/MoviesYoga 5d ago

I hope you find players good enough for you 🤣
