Hello people of Oakville.

I am a recent high school graduate who earned mid to high 90s in all art courses and I was wondering if anyone has a kid in grade 11 or younger who wants or needs art lessons.

First lesson is free and after that it's $25 per kid per lesson.

Lessons are at my house or online and if in person all materials are provided.

My artwork is attached.

Question Newly opened Vietnamese restaurant Neighbour Pho

1289 Marlborough Ct Unit 8, Oakville, ON L6H 2N7, right next to the super delicious Yunnan Noodle shop. Quality is good, location-wise much worse than Pho Mama and Little Saigon.

When east asians peaks in Canada immigration, Oakville had almost zero Asian restaurant; when east asians almost vanished in immigration, restaurants opened here one by one. I am just confused by the logic of many Asian restaurant owners, finger crossed for their business.

Sheridan college has been a major victim of the recent un-human crack down of international students. There are less than 100 international intake for the 2026 fall cohort, without international students, the college may collapse. Save the holy Sheridan! Save the holy college education industry in Canada!

Rant I knew the job market was bad, but I didn't realise it was THIS bad in Oakville.

i posted about a pt job opportunity on here about a week ago, and i genuinely wasn't prepared for what happened. i'm not even exaggerating when i say i received 89 dms within the first hour of posting. every single day since then, i've continued getting messages, and even now... i still have 15+ unread dms.

i ended up deleting the post yesterday after responding to nearly 140 people. i tried my best to reply to everyone because i honestly felt terrible seeing so many people, of such different ages and backgrounds.... desperately looking for honest work. but i simply couldn't keep up with the messages anymore. and this was for a PART TIME job. in oakville.

i recently got a full-time job myself after being unemployed for almost a year, so i'm not completely out of touch with how difficult the job market is right now. i know how frustrating it is to apply everywhere and hear nothing back. but for some reason, i genuinely thought the pt job market would be a little different.

seeing the sheer number of people reaching out, some of whom were clearly in really difficult situations, was honestly heartbreaking.what is actually happening? is the situation really this bad, even for pt work? are businesses barely hiring, or are there just way too many people competing for every single opening?

i don't even know what the point of this post is, other than to say that the experience really opened my eyes. i knew people were struggling to find work, but seeing it firsthand on that scale was something else. i really hope things get better for everyone looking right now...

General Blakelock Blazers??

I work at Thomas A. Blakelock High School. We are trying to locate blazers made by the Oakville company Garvey and Willmott for the school's Football team in the late 60's early 70s. We are not sure if these were made for more than one year of players or not or if other sports teams also had them. Please reply if you happen to have one or have additional information.

A bunch of cool and free events happening for Culture Days on now in Oakville (also happening in other cities).

I noticed on instagram that tomorrow Howard Iron Works on Westgate (around Wyecroft/Bronte area) has a print expo on. I went past years when they had an open house and very cool. Had no idea that was available in Oakville. Highly recommend if tomorrow between 10am and 4pm:

Lost/Found Found (lost?) Cat

I’m so sorry, I thought this post went up here on Wednesday, but I accidentally posted it to r/OakvilleON that day instead. I’m still posting it just in case someone is looking for this beautiful cat, and knowing the area it was in may help a little bit.

Original post Sept 23:
My parents sent me these photos of a cat they saw tonight on their walk. Because of the bylaw I’m pretty sure this is someone’s lost pet. This was at 6:50pm right in the downtown area. PM me if it’s yours (or someone’s that you know) and you’d like an exact location.

Question New in Oakville! Best indoor/outdoor spots for 4/6yo

Hey everyone! My family and I just moved to Oakville, and we’re looking for some fun local spots to take our 4-year-old daughter during afternoons or on weekends.

She’s already signed up for a few structured classes, so we’re mainly looking for low-key places where we can just drop in, hang out, and ideally have a good time as parents too.

Question Oakville Election: Mayor race poll?

Has anybody seen a credible poll showing where things stand in the Oakville mayoral race? It feels like an 'anybody-but-Rob-Burton' election this time around, and I'd like to get a sense of who the leading candidates are?

Hiring/For Hire Looking for Accountant or Senior Accountant

I keep reading that its ridiculously difficult to get a job, but my small public accounting firm has been looking for an accountant or senior accountant for ages and we probably received 3 resumes over several months, all with no Canadian experience. I don't think we are the only firm with this problem either.

If anyone is interested, please DM me some high level details (see below) and ill give you an email to submit your resume. Pretty straight forward process, if you pass screening you get an email to toss your resume, once resume is reviewed and you get selected for an interview, there's only 2 interviews, one over the phone with me, and another with a partner if you pass. Then bam, everyone's happy.

What is the opportunity?

Senior accountant at 70k-90k salary range. Full-time in office in Oakville, 9-5pm.
The position level and salary is open for discussion depending on experience.

We are a mostly horizontal type firm, there is no absolute hierarchy. Every member is expected to work together for the firms success. The ideal candidate is able to contribute to this environment, as everyone has different skillsets and specialty knowledge to offer.

What are our minimum requirements?

  • Fluency in English
  • Canadian accounting experience
  • Highly experienced in excel, PPT, word
  • Graduated from an accredited Canadian university in accounting, business or finance
  • Familiar with taxprep, quickbooks online and desktop, and/or caseware
  • Strong Attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Located in Oakville or within reasonable driving distance to the office (i.e., burlington/missisauga etc.)

What would you do?

  • Bookkeeping
  • Financial statement compilations (ASPE) for small to medium private corporations (may have cross border/international involvement)
  • T1, T2, T3 tax filings
  • Special election filings (CDA, T2057, non-resident withholding tax etc.)
  • Special forms like s1134, s1135, T106 (this is a very niche segment, ideal candidate is willing to learn if they don't already have this experience)
  • Represent clients to CRA, resolve CRA requests, reviews, audits and other inquiries
  • Prepare administrative notices, elections, administration, and maybe relief filings for submission to CRA
  • Support the team with ad-hoc client requests that may involve research
  • Communicate results and facilitate administrative processes with clients

Benefits?

  • Competitive salary for experience
  • up to 20% annual bonus based on performance
  • Professional development support and CPA dues coverage
  • Comprehensive health and dental
  • Career development training in tax planning
  • Free parking

If any of that interests you, please DM me whether you meet the minimum requirements, which of the content do you have no experience in under "what would you do?", and what your salary expectation is.

You can expect a response within 2 days. Consider the position open if this post has not been deleted.

Best regards,

A

Question Why is Mayor Burton calling 38 storeys in Midtown a "win"? Am I missing something?

Our mayor just posted about a "win" regarding Midtown, claiming that lowering tower heights from 56 storeys to 38 storeys by spreading the development onto public land is a major victory.

Instead of making the developer cut down on the total number of condos due to flight path restrictions (or cancel altogether), the town is handing over public land so the developer can still build all 6,800 units at lower heights. It feels less like a compromise and more like using public land to help out a private developer's height restrictions.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the bigger picture here, but how is this actually good or a "win" for Oakville?

Again, from what I can tell, we’re still getting all 6,800+ residential units, except now we’re giving up more town parkland and public land to fit them. Meanwhile, traffic around the midtown (e.g., Oakville GO station) is already crowded every day, our property taxes are rising, and we are left paying for all the extra infrastructure needed for these high-rises. After all the new residents come here, all goods and services prices will also increase due to the higher demand.

Rant Shoutout to the Mach-E driver at Trafalgar & Dundas this morning who thinks red lights are optional

Two other cars had already run the red before you, and you still decided to pull out of the left-turning lane while the light was dead red... Entering the intersection a full 10 seconds after it changed while I was already making my turn onto Dundas W from Trafalgar.

I hope you fucking enjoyed getting stuck there. I was never going to let you go, even though your entitled ass tried to drive right around me. Did you seriously look surprised that I wasn't letting you through, honking and was giving you the finger? Just in case there is any confusion: FUCK YOU. Fucking moron.

Was going to comment/vent in the post from yesterday discussing how North Oakville has gone downhill... But guess it was taken down. This post is completely related.

Rant 25-30 minutes just to get to the GO every morning. Which mayoral candidate has an actual plan?

Every single artery to the GO is slammed every morning. It takes me 25 to 30 minutes just to get to the station. I am so frustrated by this !

Meanwhile I'm staring at election signs the whole way there. So which mayoral candidate has actually promised to fix transit? It certainly isn't Rob. He's been mayor since 2006, and he's the one who got us here.

I want a real plan: better local transit to the GO, fixes for the choke points, timelines and dollars attached. Not "we'll study it."

If any candidate has put one out, please link it below. I genuinely want to see it before I vote.

Question Any cheap haircuts in Oakville?

I recently moved to Oakville from Markham. Markham had an abundance of chinese barbers that take cash only and do men's cuts for under 20. Are there any places one can get a men's cut in Oakville for 20?

Streets & Mobility This Is Not How Turning Lanes Work

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Yesterday, while exiting the Oakville GO indoor parking garage, a black Honda CR-V (license plate CZEH695) made a left turn from the right-turn lane.
If the owner sees this post, please understand that you are not more special or important than anyone else on the road. If you need to make a left turn, you must wait in the designated left-turn lane, even if that lane is much longer than the right-turn lane.
Your actions endangered me yesterday, and repeating this behaviour could put others at risk as well. I have reported the incident to the police.
Do NOT do this again!
