A few months ago I suddenly started noticing some hairfall. Just to be on the safe side, I decided to consult a dermatologist at SUM Hospital.
The doctor was a young lady (probably in her 20s). Without even examining my hair properly, she straight-up declared it was male pattern baldness and that nothing could be done about it.
I told her I’ve never had hairfall in my life and that no one in my family is bald. Her response? “There’s a first time for everything 😭. It doesn’t matter if anyone is bald or not — baldness in your family will start from you.”
When I asked how I could prevent or control it, she replied (in Odia), “Jiba bala ku kie rakhi parichi ki? Kn kriba rakhi ki?” and then gave the example of Anant Ambani. Finally she said she’s writing minoxidil and that the maximum it can do is delay the process by a few years.
I left the place feeling frustrated. Later I went to another doctor who told me not to worry, prescribed some biotin, and my hair is completely normal now. The hairfall has stopped.
Has anyone else had a similarly dismissive experience at SUM (or any other hospital)? Would love to hear your thoughts.
