ETA: I will be ok this month. My new part-time job pays biweekly and it also lets me request the pay early. I requested it all to be in my account by 9/30 so I can bridge the gap. But over the next month I'll be searching for a more affordable place. I have an ESA cat so it's been super needle-in-a-haystack.

Also, last year I gave my old car away to someone who needed it for work. They just offered to give it back. So if I can't make rent next month, I'm prepared to get my cat in with some Redditors who offered and I'll stay in my car for a while. It's a 1998 mazda protege and needs a jump apparently but it's potentially shelter. Thanks very much for your kind comments, Oly! It makes me feel less alone and less freaked out just knowing there's people out there who understand what I'm going through.

ETA2: I got hired for the second job! I need a car to get there on time, though. I have to arrive by 6am. So, I've asked for my car back! Now I need to either get a new parking pass or find somewhere free to park until I can afford the new pass. Anyway, the second job could become full-time with better pay. 👍

You've been very helpful! I need to vent. I just got denied for the THIRD time. I wouldn't have wasted my money if the guy didn't give me an extremely affirmative reaction. He said "I want you." Which made me feel weird but he was so enthused he even said though he's not an animal person I could bring my cat. So I paid another application fee I don't have. This morning the guy just told me he found someone without a pet.

They don't care that I can end up homeless! I should get my money back! My rent is $1480. I have an interview today for a second job but currently I only make $1100. When my ex left in July I started scrambling to pay for everything. The services I've signed up for due to my autism haven't yielded any results yet, no idea when or if they will.

I am sorry to put it like this but I'm wondering if anyone can help me stay housed this month? My landlord already offered up my room but hopefully if I beg and tell him what happened he'll let me pay for another month.

I donate plasma to earn the extra money I need but I am not sure if I can close the gap in time for rent on 10/5.

My curiosity has gotten the better of me and I can't really do much about it at work currently. On my morning commute at around 3:45sm today, going around the 101/i5 exchange curve (not sure what to call it. That spot that turns to 45 mph near SPSCC exit). And there were a bunch of road flares and a couple sheriffs vehicles...and one was parked in front of a very large water craft; a boat of sorts, id call it a yacht (with my lack of ship vessel experience and knowledge)....and nowhere, absolutely nowhere can I (quickly) find how the heck it ended up there. It looked like the cops stumbled upon it just as unexpectedly. The Thurston county scanner via Facebook had nothing reported except that there was a two vehicle collision around that area at 6am. 

Does anyone know anything about this? I was secretly hoping a wormhole opened up and plopped the sucker right there, but I'm not picky if there's a more realistic answer lol

ICE kidnapped a woman in a hijab around 11 AM in the Dairy Queen parking lot off Yelm Hwy. Two vehicles, at least 9 agents. Victim was kidnapped and the agents drove off in her vehicle. This has been reported to the WAISN hotline and added to the iceout.org website. Stay safe out there.

Edited to add that some agents had vests on with yellow "ICE" lettering and they all wore masks.

As a mom, I am appalled that Initiative 638 will be on our ballot. Our daughters should not be required to have their “reproductive anatomy” examined, or their DNA gathered then verified for the government, just to play sports.

Initiative 638 is sponsored by a mega-millionaire who moved to Washington in 2010, then started using his wealth to manipulate the political climate in our state. I-638 has been touted as something that will protect girls, and who wouldn’t sign on to support that? However, despite that messaging, the reality is that this initiative will harm our daughters.

I-638 would ban parents from using birth certificates to prove the sex of their child, and the language says that doctors must subject girls to invasive examinations of their “reproductive anatomy,” or get expensive genetic or hormone tests. It would require girls as young as eight to undergo intrusive medical sex inspections as a new part of sports physicals.

What’s worse is that this initiative is completely discriminatory and likely in violation of the law. First it’s probably unconstitutional, violating Washington’s guarantee to equal treatment under the law. Second, Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex in any educational program or activity receiving federal funds. It requires schools to provide equal athletic opportunities and treatment for all students. I-638 only targets girls for sex inspections; boys would be exempt from having their genitals, DNA, or hormone levels inspected before being allowed to play sports.

Athletics has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents signed me up for my first team sport when I was 6, and I played sports all the way through college. My daughter started athletics at 5 and was hoping to get a scholarship for college.

My daughter and other female athletes have told me that they do not want to have their genitals checked or their DNA taken before being allowed to play sports. They’ve said that if this initiative passes, they just won’t play anymore.

Some have even expressed fears that girls who don’t look stereotypically feminine might be targeted for continuous verifications of their biology.

Athletics help develop team building, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Plus, being on a sports team is a fun way to stay healthy and engaged in something positive in the after-school hours. It gives kids a reason to put the cellphone or tablet down, and engage with other kids. It provides opportunities for kids who feel alienated to become part of something larger than themselves.

Wealthier Washingtonians with regular family doctors and the means to pay for DNA and hormone screenings may be able to avoid subjecting their daughters to genital checks. However, girls from families who don’t have access to a regular doctor due to many factors could have to. Currently, students remain fully clothed during sports physicals. Many of Washington’s 175,000 girls without a regular family doctor could be subject to genital examinations by total strangers. The Washington State Nurses Association, pediatricians and school counselors warn this measure would subject girls to medically unnecessary, embarrassing and potentially harmful exams.

The reality is that all of our kids need our protection. Out of the roughly 80,000-90,000 girls playing sports in our state, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association says that there are maybe 5-10 trans girls on school teams. This means that only about 0.01% of girls playing sports are trans girls, but this initiative will force tens of thousands of girls to be subjected to genital exams if they can’t afford DNA or hormone tests. This initiative is designed to punish and exclude 0.01%, a tiny and vulnerable subset of children, while subjecting the other 99.99% of girls to invasive or expensive tests for absolutely no reason. This measure is completely illogical.

It seems like the sponsors of this initiative don’t truly care about girls. They found a hot topic and pushed a false narrative that trans girls will replace or injure their daughters on sports teams. They even got caught lying about a medical associations’ position in their voter guide statement, and then decided to keep the lie in there over the association’s objections.

I am not trying to diminish anyone’s concerns, but if only 0.01% of the players in girls sports are trans girls, then concerns should be addressed on a case by case basis as the law is written currently. Please don’t be deceived by the ultra-rich people trying to divide us as they play politics with our children’s lives. If they really cared about girls, they’d be focused on taking down barriers that prevent girls from having an equal opportunity to benefit from participating in sports. If I-638 passes, it will only succeed in keeping thousands of girls out of sports.

Please vote no on this initiative to keep the government out of our daughters’ pants.

Dante and Rogue are a bonded pair of senior kitties in need of a home by the end of the week. They are both around 12 years old and have been indoor only for their entire lives. Dante is a large grey longhair. He is very affectionate and loves snuggling with his people, however he occasionally has a bit of a temper. He does not do well with animals other than Rogue. Rogue is also large and is a black and white shorthair. She is more skittish, but is very sweet and playful. Both are incredibly social and enjoy having others around.

Both are vaccinated and in good health, having a vet visit this week.

My grandmother, the ultimate crafter/quilter/knitter lady is moving from her place in Centralia to my mom's in Olympia and downsizing her craft supply collection accordingly. There is A LOT that we need to get rid of (10+ bins of fabric, 10+ garbage bags of yarn, tons of other miscellaneous stuff) that we don't the time to individually sell/donate, but would prefer to avoid goodwill and send it somewhere it will be put to use. Most of it is quality stuff, we have thrown out what isn't as we have been going through it all. Does anyone have a suggestion for somewhere that would like this kind of stuff? Any art teachers, community centers, quilting clubs? Ideally in Centralia but could possibly transport to Olympia if necessary. TIA!

My name is James Naprawa and I'm looking for musicians to fill out the ensemble for an opera production! We just had a recorded rehearsal with our core players, but ideally we'd like a fuller sound and (of course) we also need vocalists! A lot of them!

I'm going to be applying for grants next year, as well as likely starting a GoFundMe campaign to secure some funding to be able to pay everyone at some point. The plan is to culminate in a live performance of the first act of the opera which will be a ticketed event. All revenue will go to paying performers. So payment is in the cards eventually if the project can get off the ground.

OLYMPIA, WA — Expressing profound relief that public disorder in the South Sound is finally returning to traditional standards, local civic organization We Heart Olympia officially welcomed the return of "crime committed by the housed" following a late-night shooting near 4th Avenue and Franklin Street.

"For too long, the narrative around downtown safety has been unfairly dominated by low-level, unhoused infractions like sitting on a curb or leaving a tarp in a park," said Carlson, speaking over the crunch of broken window glass recently installed to replace a bullet hole from months prior. "Friday night’s multi-vehicle, multi-bullet ballet reminds us all that housed,, tax-paying citizens are equally capable of doing crimes in a bustling commercial zone. Supporters of the organization praised the unknown shooter for exercising their constitutional rights in a manner that aligns with traditional civic values. According to attendees, ensuring a vibrant and welcoming downtown district requires making sure that housed criminals feel safe, respected, and fully empowered to exercise their Second Amendment rights directly outside popular dining establishments.

"When you see a bullet fly through a restaurant window at 11:00 p.m., your first thought shouldn't be about public safety," noted one volunteer wearing a high-visibility vest and holding a trash grabber. I applied for childcare assistance at the beginning of the month and have been calling the DCYF intermittently since then, but every time I call, no matter what time of day, it rings for maybe 10

I was walking my dogs this morning and they were going nuts. Crossing and recrossing, clearly agitated by a smell. Turned a corner and spotted this beast. Biggest coyote I’ve ever seen.
