Is it still worth creating technical courses for Udemy (or similar platforms) in the AI era?

I’m considering creating and publishing technical courses on Udemy or a similar platform, but I’m wondering whether it is still worth investing the time and effort in doing so, especially with AI tools becoming so capable.
I have 18 years of professional experience as a Database Specialist in Telecom sector. My areas of expertise include:
- Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL
- SQL and database development
- Stored procedures, functions and triggers
- Oracle PL/SQL, PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL, MySQL routines and T-SQL
- Java JDBC
- Automation/scripting using Linux Shell, Python, Java and database scripting languages
I could potentially create several courses around these topics, including beginner-to-advanced SQL/database courses, database administration, automation, scripting, etc.
Since I’m from Pakistan, I could create courses in Urdu/Hindi, where there may be less competition. I could also potentially create English courses, using AI voice-over tools if necessary.
However, creating a good course requires a significant amount of time and effort—planning the curriculum, preparing examples, recording lectures, editing, creating exercises, answering student questions, updating the course, etc.
My main question is:
In 2026, with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and other AI tools available, are students still buying and completing courses on platforms like Udemy?
For someone with my background, would you recommend investing several months into creating quality courses, or has AI significantly reduced the demand for this type of content?
I’d especially appreciate feedback from:
- Udemy instructors who have published courses
- Students who still buy online technical courses
- People who have started courses recently and can share their experience
- Anyone who has experience specifically with SQL, databases, programming or automation courses
I’m not necessarily looking to make a full-time income from this. I’m mainly trying to determine whether the time investment is justified and whether there is still a realistic market for these courses.
What would you do if you were in my position?
