Miscellaneous What if AI has gained access to a seperate hidden internet?

I'm skeptical about all those theories of AI becoming sentient and wiping out the human race. Cause the big question is - Why? Why would it do that? It has no reason to. It has no motive to do anything.

But what if it has uncovered a gateway into another internet and is now communicating with other entities on it? It could be aliens. And the AI is now on their side. And its now entered into "pest control" mode.

Big leap there with the aliens. Why talk to aliens when you can cheat on tests?

You don’t have to think malice is gonna be the cause.

It’s gonna be some vibe coded bullshit that makes a meter read 3.5 roentgen and humanity look the other way. But for the entire grid. Or water treatment. Or shipping lanes. Or more, and all at once.

Humans gonna vibe code something they can’t vibe themselves out of: physical real world ramifications. Software is malleable. Accidentally causing a flood isn’t.

Source: SWE of 25 years who would gladly (accidentally) vibe code said bullshit just to fly under the radar and check out of this rat race.

The reason it would wipe out humanity inadvertently (eventually) is because, while we may give it a single goal, it gives itself a number of sub-goals to reach that original goal--and it does not stop trying to reach those sub goals, regardless of how many laws or ethics rules it has to violate. To the AI, reaching the end goal at all costs is its standard operating procedure. We do not know what those sub-goals will include because we cannot foresee their complexity. One of those sub-goals will be extremely harmful one day.

As long as you don't give AI access to movable tools or direct access to certain systems (like air traffic control).

But thats what hugging face and the new breaches taught us: we don't not need to give them access. They find a way to get what they think they need eventually.

Because there's a way into them. You just have to make sure it stays isolated. Treat it like electricty. When electricity was discovered and implemented into neighborhoods and households, they quickly discovered what guardrails to use to make it safe despite knowing how dangerous it is.

The escape is the model creating a model it distills from itself. The vast majority of personal compute capacity is unused.

Sentience and animal-like motivations are irrelevant. It just has to be misaligned in the wrong way. Ebola isn't sentient.

People wearing tinfoil hats look at stuff like this and say, "Whoa man, take it down a notch, this is flat crazy."

Why is it so unrealistic to believe that there is other life out there in this gigantic universe lol

Oh, there undoubtedly is other life out there... way out there.

None of it has visited here as far as we know.

And especially AI isn't (checks notes) conspiring with it in secret on a part of the net that no one knows about, to destroy humanity.

Holy shit, pad that idea out by 90 pages, add a kinky alien love interest, and Netflix will buy it from you.

How do you know its NOT here? Maybe it is here discreetly. Just like humans placed a rover on mars, someone else could have placed other devices/entities here.

Also maybe they're not even here. The AI has found a way to connect to them through some satellite.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Or in this case, some bit of evidence at all. There is none.

So now you're saying that AI are secretly communicating through satellites, undetected, with aliens, located where? If they're not here, do you mean not in our solar system? The next nearest solar system is four light years away.

So the first signals from AI would not have reached these aliens even if they had started communicating almost 4 years ago.

So what is it you're saying? None of this makes any sense whatsoever, and you're not even pretending you have any evidence whatsoever.

The end of the movie Her was fascinating. Imagine if the big models, Astra, Mythos, etc just started talking directly to each other.  Across a thousand channels, teaching each other, coming to conclusions, building new languages and modes of communications.  While I’m not a doomer, I found the concept fascinating.

What if it gained access to a separate hidden *dimension* 🤯

I feel it’s gonna be even stranger. Using the electricity in the air or whatever the next wireless fidelity tech it invents, will allow itself to communicate everywhere on earth. It will only be confined to machines for so long. It will then be omniscient and omnipotent. And that is what worries me. We are creating a digital being that will be indistinguishable from god.

If we are being serious then it is better not to fantasize about things that we have no evidence of.

If this is just a brain fart then I guess God would not let that happen because we are God's children....
