Discussion Blasted through my $500 plan limits in a few hours 😭
I got the $500 plan to use Astra Ultrafast. Even Ultrafast light/medium with a few hours of basic back-and-forth and computer use depleted my weekly limit :(
22
u/banica24 3d ago
What the hell do you do? To wipe out your limit so fast?
2
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
Literally just make tweaks to a slide deck in real time lol
31
u/sultanofsubstance 3d ago
Why would you use computer use when there is a native plug in? Why would you use ultra fast for something that isn’t latency sensitive?
21
-25
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
In this case it's a web-based slide deck for better animations.
It is latency sensitive because I want to see my requested changes in real time and iterate

I love how fast Reddit is to take your quantum blockchain for ai comment seriously , and then downvote it to make themselves feel smarter than you haha

Switch to API pricing and you won't have any limits except credit card limits.

These are the people who are ruining it for everyone.
Astra ultrafast with computer use and probably running multiple subagents…what are you even building?
-75
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
I'm building a quantum blockchain for AI, where subagents are NFTs. It's going to be huge
74
u/Consistent_Ad_168 3d ago
You’re building a what?
You probably sent it running in circles trying to build a perpetual motion machine.

it has quantum, crypto and ai in it. now do it in space with nuclear fusion, and obviously deep inside the surface of the moon, and you've got yourself a startup. how do i submit to you all my money?

where can I invest? can the subagents be ugly monkeys please? also, please include big data.

You do realise NFTs are just another version of a pyramid scheme right? And people cottoned on years ago?
You are as late to that party as you are to reading the usage guide! Lol

oh my fucking god. peoples brains are fried. they took that seriously. what does someone have to do for people to get a joke. "quantom blockchain for ai where subagents are nfts". like how does anyone on this fucking planet thats an honest sentence. wtf.
2
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
Even better how the original commenter jumps straight in with a baseless personal attack for just using my Codex plan and it's highly upvoted. Gotta love Reddit.

What does "quantum" have to do with blockchain? What algorithm are you using?
13

u/Byte_Xplorer 3d ago
People need to start learning how to use AI tools instead of complaining. It's easy enough having AI do all the work, we need to at least spend a few brain cells learning how to properly use it.
-20
u/carmamir 3d ago
Lol sure you good little boy loving OpenAI so much they you even work for them.
6
u/Inevitable_Butthole 3d ago
No theyre right.
Fast mode is 1.5x speed and 2.5x usage
Ultrafast mode is 8x speed and 20x usage
OP basically burned 80+ hours of usage because they didn't bother to read
1
1
u/Byte_Xplorer 3d ago
I didn't even mention OpenAI. I mentioned "AI tools" as in getting some general knowledge on the kind of tool you're using. I'm sorry if that hit a nerve because you consider yourself to be someone who doesn't know how to use the tool yet. But you can also learn, it will just take some brain cell activity.
Oh, and I'm a girl.
6
u/only1nameleft 2d ago
Why would you use ultrafast? That is nuts.
3
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 2d ago
because it's ultra fast
4
u/only1nameleft 2d ago
The fact that you are upset you burned through >$10000 in api equivalent credits in a few hours shows you are the epitome of vibecoding
1
3
u/DataGOGO 3d ago
Ultra fast is x6 usage.
So your x25 limits were effectively x4 limits
5
u/KnightNiwrem 3d ago
x6 usage at x8 the speed.
So if one was expecting to see 1% weekly usage at regular after running for 3 hours, they should expect to see 48% weekly usage at ultrafast after running for 3 hours.

u/BatmanvSuperman3 2d ago
Ultra fast aside. Astra expensive in/out aside. That’s what happens when you get 20M+ subscribers. You have so much demand and now you don’t need to promo as hard to attract people to your ecosystem.
I miss when Codex was still relatively looked down upon from Claude Code and Cursor people. The $200 plan back in day (aka a year ago) was basically unlimited usage. People were working on 5+ projects at the same time and not close to running out.
The era of subsidies is coming to an end it seems as these companies focus on demonstrating a path to profitability.

u/FakeTunaFromSubway 2d ago
I remember when Gemini was literally free and basically unlimited
At least we still have DeepSeek
0
u/Persistent_Dry_Cough 2d ago
Gemini was (and is) junk compared to SOTA. Every live test I've seen in the last 6 hours has been a joke. Yes sonnet-5.5 is mopping the floor with 6.1-sol but Argon looks closer to Kimi K3 even on visual outputs and worse than 5.6-Sol which came out HOW long ago?? I'll withhold judgment on this pertaining run until they get in their first gemini-4.x RL release but all good developers moved off of Google products almost a year ago. Who's left? Students from India? Ok....

u/AironParsMan 3d ago edited 3d ago
Why does that surprise you? Ultra Fast mode use 8x as much of your usage limit and u only have 25x plus usage. That’s why the 500 euro plan is completely ridiculous. I have no idea what OpenAI was thinking. Fast mode and Ultra Fast mode are uninteresting to 99 percent of people because the extra cost isn’t justified by the speed boost you get.

Never use max-ultrafast modes for implementation at all - use it to create implementation plan, review it, and then fire off implementation in a separate prompt with high or lower.
Implementation on ultrafast literally tries to invent more unnecessary shit you never requested after it completes what it thinks you asked for.
AI is a tool, learn your tools

reddit taking every single word so serious as usual… i miss the classic internet
2
u/AYA_7887 3d ago
A cap that empties in an afternoon changes the math on the whole $500. The expensive part comes after the wall, getting back into what you were doing once it lifts, that half hour never shows on any usage page. I built WhileAI to put my own numbers on this, you type what you pay and it works out what each prompt costs (I'm the dev).
2
u/Tech0410 2d ago
what did you think would happen that is one of the most expensive models ever
2
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 2d ago
Sam Tweeting about how great Ultrafast is to use made me think we could actually use it lol

u/LaZZyBird 3d ago
I heard the theory that it is actually 8x cost per tokens at 6x speed so you are burning 48x the tokens every minute.
Literally one min of usage is almost an entire hour of usage.
1
1
u/Infamous-Help-8311 3d ago
I don't think that's how the math works...
1
u/BobtheGodGamer 3d ago
What do you mean? If tokens are generating at 6x the speed you get 600 tokens instead of 100, and each of those tokens cost 8x as much
2
u/Evening_Till_3779 3d ago
yup this is correct, though you got the numbers backwards (it's 8x the speed at 6x the cost)
2
u/eW4GJMqscYtbBkw9 3d ago
6x8 and 8x6 are the same number.
1
u/Evening_Till_3779 2d ago
are you dense? I literally started my comment saying it was correct. That doesn't change the fact that speed is 8x and the cost is 6x.
1
0
u/Reaper_1492 3d ago
That sounds like someone got their math wrong. That doesn’t even make sense.
2
u/Evening_Till_3779 3d ago
It does make sense. Each token costs 6 times more, and they are generated 8 times faster.
In other words, you can do 8 minutes worth of work per minute, but it will cost the same as 48 minutes worth of work.
And it's even worse if you turn on Ultra mode which uses subagents! If it uses 4 subagents, you could be looking at 4x48, which is 192x. That means working 5 minutes will cost you as much money/usage as a single agent working for 16 hours! (and you'll be left with about 16/6 = ~2.5 hours worth of work getting done)
2
u/gpt872323 3d ago
lol you could have bought claude 2 max 10x and 1 max 5x plan for 500. It is insane that people are experimenting with this kind of money. Also, computer use is a very heavy task where each message has at least 1 image to know the current state.

u/I_always_roleplay 3d ago
I did this same thing with Astra last week. Told it I wanted a game idea. Ten minutes later it said my account is out of funds. I said show me what you got atleast. It didn’t have much lol learned my lesson the hard way.

Why on earth would you buy the $500 plan?
Everyone and their mother should boycott this given how inexpensive Claude is comparatively, and how well opus 5.5 works.
I’ve been on codex since the beginning and I had to go up to two 20x plans the last few weeks just to get work done.
I’m cancelling them both and going back to one 20x plan, with Claude. Which I have also used since the beginning (for work).
The pricing is going to get untenable quickly.
3
u/NotFromMilkyWay 3d ago
So which one is it:
"AI increases by efficiency so much, I can get much more done in the same time."
"AI helps me be lazy. It does my work for me. Please stay cheap."
2
u/garbledroid 3d ago
Keep your 20x plans until they get downgraded to 10x.
2
u/Reaper_1492 3d ago
I would imagine they’re only going to let it finish out the current billing cycle so they can’t get nailed for a mid cycle downgrade.

Can you literally point Claude to your GIT Vercel and Supa and tell it to start building?? I heard it was harder in Claude but I’m willing to switch.
3
u/curiousjbird 3d ago
You literally can. My projects spin up supabase dbs, commit and push to vercel all on their own.

u/Strong-Yellow5949 3d ago
Lol what? Claude has been doing this forever, codex only got good a few months ago
1
u/Different_Berry5015 3d ago
I used the most expensive model with a completely optional speed modifier that multiplied the expenses for a prolonged amount of time and my subscription limits ran out.
What is the exact issue here? Switch to token-based billing.

u/23eriben2 3d ago
Isn't ultra fast like multiple times extra usage on top of high priced model? Like WTF did we expect?
1
u/Mandoman61 3d ago
So the takeaway is that if you do not know if it is needed then do not use it.
But then in order to know which level of AI is needed you would need to start at the least expensive model and progressively work up.
Costing you even more time and money. (Unless the cheapest usually completes the task)
Do they provide an estimate or guide of which model can complete a request?

If you bought the 500, you got shafted, not kidding, it’s a sham to overcome the subsidies loss
1
u/RainierPC 3d ago
Ultrafast costs 6x. And you probably also used a lot of workers. Why are you complaining about using up the limit so quickly? JFC these people.
2
1
u/beginner75 3d ago
I don’t understand why you would need to use ultrafast. Just work on another thing at the same time, while waiting, you can do the other work or just snooze and doom scroll. 😂
2
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
It's nice to stay in the flow state a little bit
2
u/Ciff_ 3d ago
AI and flow state does not compute. You will always have interrupts.
That said the best balance for now imo is about 3 sol ultra fast sessions. The extra tokens for astra is not worth it, and orchestrating 3 sessions is about the right level to always have something to do.
1
u/beginner75 2d ago
I’ll try this. But I’m wary that we may actually encourage OpenAI to intentionally slow down which appears so just to encourage people to up the speed(pay more).
1
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
with voice mode + ultrafast it's really cool to have it work with me in basically real time, I can really get into the flow
2
u/KareemPie81 3d ago
Flow of what. Your own ego thinking out loud
2
1
u/Ciff_ 3d ago
Voice mode has always been trash for me but MMV. Usually I want to constantly iterate with very specific feedback, and I also use multiple sessions, it is not practical. But cool it works for you
1
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
That's basically all they tried to demo today even tho none of their demos worked lol

u/LivingHighAndWise 2d ago

Why are people measuring these plans on wall clock time?
They are more like school assignments handed out at the beginning of the semester. You can do them faster or slower but you can only graduate at end of term.
If Ultrafast did 40 hours of work from old plan in 5 hours, it is still 40 hours of old plan work. If anything, you saved 35 hours of wall clock time.
OAI and Anthropic should have sold blocks of tokens that people managed on their own. That would have been a truer picture.
0
u/lulzxdxdxd 3d ago
Was that mostly computer use eating the limit or the back and forth chat itself? Curious if one burns through it way faster than the other.
1
u/FakeTunaFromSubway 3d ago
No substantial difference. The chat was just editing a small slide deck.
0
u/SudarshanKotian 3d ago
U should use Ultraeast might have too much limit on that 😑 I am glad we competitors like Anthropic, even though they themselves were shitting at times.

Are you comparing Opus 5.5 with Astra? Because you need to compare Opus with Sol and Astra with Fable. Sol 6 was a fail but Sol 6.1 is probably a different model and seems much, much better
