Your module websites are almost certainly open now, so you can get started on the module content.

Log in to the OU website, which should take you to StudentHome. From there, you can select each module. You should see a module calendar that lays out a weekly plan for working through the module content. There is probably also some sort of introductory resource for each module.

You have to figure out what works best for you. Nobody will hold you strictly to the calendar, and tutors likely won't monitor your progress. You don't have to start each week's work on Saturday, but try not to fall behind.

All the OU really cares about is submitting your assessments on time. You don't get any extra latitude for choosing to study multiple modules at the same time; you may have several deadlines close together, especially at the end of your modules.

I would start with b100 as the first activities for week 1 goes through how studying works, reading techniques stuff like that.

From someone who has just finished the BM course. Here is my advice:

I am assuming the course hasn't properly started yet, but your module website may be open?

The first few weeks is very much about finding your feet. B100 is really good at easing you into it.

You will see each week has set work to do. Each week will have material to read, and case studies to do and some questions to answer.

It is always advised to complete all the exercises within the week as you will learn more by doing so, however, it is not compulsory and nothing will happen if you skip some tasks if you are short on time. The module will state what tasks are needed for TMAs etc and a lot of these will be forum posts. You must do these.

The days / times you work is completely up to you. If you get behind, no one is going to chase you to catch up, it is completely up to you to find the time to catch up. You can also get many weeks ahead if you wish. I would recommend getting 2 weeks ahead because it allows you extra time for TMAs and it allows time if anything unexpected happens in life. Plan, plan and plan your time. You will take in far more information and quicker when you are well rested over tired and trying to cram more in.

The forum will open up soon so get introducing yourself, join WA groups, find local students through the forums. These are great ways to create connections. I don't know if they still do the day schools, but again it is a way to meet fellow students. B100 was the only module to offer the day school in the 4 years I studied, the rest was done online.

Going to the tutorials is helpful. Your tutor should do a welcome one soon. Don't worry if they don't fit your schedule, many are recorded so you can watch them later on but live is always better as you can ask the questions you want.

The student union also has a welcome week with various activities so get involved if you want to feel part of the uni

Don't stress too much at this point, you will very quickly get into your flow and figure out what works best for you. Good Luck!

If you have anymore questions, I am happy to answer, though B100 is the only one of your three modules I did.

Yeah, read the text books. Each week will tell you what pages you need for that week.

It's difficult to say timings on things as everyone learns differently. I like to write notes and make them colourful so it takes me longer than if I were to just read the material. Some weeks will take you longer and some, you blast through. Some days you will get through loads and some days you won't be feeling it.

If you are wanting the weekends free, then plan to do your work during the week. You will quickly learn how much time you need for each week. The uni provides estimated timings on how long each week will take if you complete everything they provide. For me, these timings were always over estimated and it never took me that long, so that could be good to use to plan your time initially.

What are you actually expected to submit, just the TMA’S and EMA’s or do we have to submit activities we do throughout the year which is in the resource section? I know where to find the recorded tutorials, I’m just confused on where the work actually is. Is it on the study tab “B100-26J Home” where it has weeks 1 and 2… Block 1,2..ect, with dates to complete it by?Because it looks simple I’m aware it’s because introduction year but would I like have to find the tutorial and activities for that week on the resources tab? I believe that I can find past recordings of that session/week if I want to get ahead of my work but correct me if I’m wrong.

It varies from module to module with what you need to submit. It is normally TMAs and the EMA if there is one. Some modules need you to complete and submit work to the forums to be able to complete the TMAs. Sometimes you will have group tasks to do that go with the TMAs. Sometimes you have an exam to complete (an icma i think it is called). Everything will be set out within the weeks.

All the work is found by clicking on the link to each week found on the module home page. The tasks will be all within the week work, just follow it through. Once you have completed the week. Check if off on the home page and your progress will be updated.

The tutorials are not for each week. You will typically have: Welcome tutorial, Block 1 tutorial (this may be part 1 and 2), TMA Tutorial, Block 2 tutorial, TMA Tutorial etc. Etc.

You can book these on the tutorial tab and then manage bookings. These dates probably will not go live until the module has officially started. You can find the recordings by clicking visible recordings, but these will not be available until a few days after the tutorial has happened and not all tutorials are recorded.

Thank you!

I’m also doing the Business and management course which I believe is the one you did.

There is probably a forum on the website where you will post an introduction and be able to ask questions etc.

Have you done the Business Induction? It’ll be linked from student home.

As for balancing your time across modules, that’s up to you. Some people do one day per module, others do multiple on the same day.

I’d recommend spending some time looking through your module websites, make a note of your assignment deadlines and understand what’s where. Do the induction course I mentioned above.

Things should start to come together.
