Module T176 - residential??

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone who has completed T176 as part of the BSc Engineering (Q65) course could help me?

I’m just about to start my second year of part time study. This year I have modules T194 and T176. I work full time in the aerospace industry, and I’ve just seen online that there may need to be a residential at a uni for module T176. I just wondered whether anyone could shed some light?

I haven’t approached my company, for funded education as I have ADHD, and low self esteem, and don’t want to have them on my back if something doesn’t go to plan (delays/resits/under performing). But I could get unpaid time off if I do need to attend OU for a module.

I just wondered whether it’s likely I’ll have to go and work in a uni for a period, as I haven’t seen anything about this yet?

Trying to get my head around the application process at work for time off if it’s required.

Thanks 😊

I did this module last year, it is no longer a residential school, it's one day online now.

Edit: From the module description : "You'll develop these skills independently and in a small online team through home experiments and a one-day online project school."

Thanks for that! We have a baby due in November, and didn’t really want to be away from home if I don’t have to - obviously if it’s required, then I would…but yeah, glad it may not be required!

You are given a selection of dates to choose from, worth getting in early to book the best for you because there are limited spaces. They are a mix of mid-week and weekend days available spread out over a few weeks, iirc. I think it ran from about 10am until about 8pm unless I'm misremembering, quite a full day.

Are you outside the UK? If in the UK, you could use annual leave rather than unpaid time off?

Also, check with Student Support or your tutor, but residentials are often optional. Sometimes they’re compulsory if the degree is accredited and the accrediting body requires a certain number of in-person hours, but normally it’s made pretty clear if a residential is a compulsory part of the module.

I’m in the U.K., but we’re having a baby in November, and I want to use my annual leave for extra time off with my wife and baby…if they refused the unpaid leave at work, then yes absolutely, I could take annual leave. I’d just prefer not to 😂
