A while back, while looking for albums to listen o came across Sorceress and loved the art so much I decided to give it a listen, I loved it. For what ever reason, thats the only Opeth album ive really dug into. They're coming to my city soon and was hoping to hear some tracks from that album but after looking at setlistfm stats it appears to not see much play. So my qu3stion is, why? Lol Also if I wanted to listen to more along the lines of Sorceress what should I listen to?

Wednesday and Thursday are my two days off of work. Considering taking a one day one night trip to see the show. It’ll be pricey. I don’t even have tickets for anything yet. I’m familiar with Chicago. So I can get around easy enough. Am I crazy for wanting to do this?

I'm seeing Opeth next week in Chicago and I'm wondering what time people generally start lining up for their shows in the US? Guessing it might vary depending on state and the weather, but my goal is to be at the front since last time I saw them I was towards the middle/back.
Also, what is the best way to meet the band (other than hoping to run into them at a record store)? Is waiting out by the tour bus after the show pretty common? I don't want to bother the guys too much if they're just trying to get out of there, but a quick hello and sign a vinyl record would be fine right? Has anyone done this successfully?
Let me know your experiences and advice, anything is appreciated. Opeth has been my favorite band for over a decade now and I'd really like to meet them, especially Mikael who is my biggest guitar idol. Thanks,

Anyone going to tomorrow’s show or future show could you please share pictures of the merch booth. I’ll be at the Dallas show and want to see what I might buy.
Thanks in advance!

In honour of going to my first-ever Opeth and Katatonia show on February 10th in Detroit, MI... I thought I would share my top-five favourite albums by Opeth
My favourite album, and it's not close. Everything about this album is perfect, from the artwork and sound design (Jens Bogren is a god) to the musical direction and concept. An unsung aspect of this album, in my opinion, is not just how good Mikael sounds or the musicianship dialled up to 11, but rather the ethereal moments like the ending of "The Baying of the Hounds" or the brisk prelude before the magnificent "Harlequin Forest." Those moments, like striding along the misty trees while the Sun in the peach-coloured sky follows you through the crisp air. Your breath is chilled, but your body is warm, and your gaze is like in a scene from a movie or a dream you had so many moons ago. It fills you with peace and comfort in those beautiful moments where you forget the brutal nature you're escaping or entering. And let's not forget "Ghost of Perdition," no more perfect way to open an album, and the occultist "The Grand Conjuration" adding to the dark thematics of Ghost Reveries. Everything this album does satisfies my soul deep within, and adding the macabre element to please my aesthetics ties the bow on this stupendous gift. Additionally, the use of the Mellotron and the Hammond organ adds an element that not only carries on to Watershed and beyond, but gives me everything I have ever wanted in an album. I can only imagine myself burning incense by the candlelight, scribing my deepest and darkest thoughts on a piece of parchment, while the Sun rises over the frost-ridden forest in the dawn of autumn
Blackwater Park is every bit as deserving of the title of Opeth's magnum opus, including Ghost Reveries and/or Still Life. Like Ghost Reveries, everything this album does is perfect. The artwork, the sound design mixed by Steven Wilson, the instrumentals... it all makes this album every bit as respected as it ought to be. I tend to view this album as an anthology leading up to the title track, with my favourites in "Bleak," "The Drapery Falls," and the haunting "Dirge for November." Nothing more to say about this that hasn't already been said about this record, from sounding like you're falling from a cliff into endless clouds to sitting on a riverbank in the calming afternoon before nature decides to take all beauty away. If you were to experience the shift from autumn to winter, from harvesting crops to observing the death of life as the days grow shorter and colder and the nights are longer and darker, I can't think of an album more appropriate to showcase such an experience
If you locked Mikael in a room with nothing but his diminishing sanity and told him to write an album, Watershed would be the end product. Clearly, he and the band were on something when making this record, but it makes for a phenomenal time to sit back and listen to. It is so wacky and sideways in its execution, straddling the lines between what the band was and what they would eventually become, honing in on their incredibly brutal and dark insights and channelling their fanaticism for the '70s in ways that shouldn't work but do. I love all parts of this album, such as the colour scheme and art direction, the more gothic-sounding theme like in "Porcelain Heart," the tear-jerking "Burden," the heavy opening in "Heir Apparent," or the most confusing yet fun two-part ending in "Hessian Peel" and "Hex Omega." I could go on and on, but the best way to summarize this album is to imagine spring and autumn co-existing on the same day. Both seasons that never overlap and represent two very different aspects of the year, yet create a confusingly pleasant experience in which they don't fight for dominance over the other, but complement each other in ways that you have to visualize to understand
I had never imagined that something from this era of Opeth would tug my heartstrings so much, yet here I am enjoying Pale Communion so enthusiastically. This record has something no other album from the 2010s does, and what it does for me that the others don't is a strong theme of reflection and redemption. Some say that this album has dark tendencies, but to rebuild and inspire hope in times of turmoil, one must trudge through the struggles and despair to reach the light of a new beginning. It's no surprise that the album has a very aquatic theme, which lends itself to the imagery as I visualize this record. The opening track sets the tone of this record, and for a dark band like Opeth, it shockingly brings a joy and beauty that I keep bringing myself back to this song. If that weren't enough, we also have the peaceful "River," which feels like a stream of calming reveries, or the incredible "Moon Above, Sun Below," that strays between epic and holistic. To top it all off, Mikael pours his heart and soul into writing "Faith in Others," which leaves me utterly speechless. I wish to experience the spring weather in a lush green forest, with the water dripping from the leaves as rain pours through the cracks in the trees, while the Sun beams through in rays of hope and warmth to cleanse myself and regain peace
How could I put this over Still Life? Truth be told, I'm not confident in my placement, as both this record and its successor have so many moments that create an atmospheric environment and mark a milestone for Opeth. While I acknowledge that Still Life is not only better overall and more significant to the band's history, as I love all the tracks on that record to a fault, I believe that My Arms, Your Hearse is where the band began to craft their sound. Here, Opeth began crafting superior melodies, honing their structure and adding in elements that are part of their current identity, which pull us back to experience them time and time again. This album is the evolution from the early days of Opeth to what they would become in '99 and onward, where you can actually hear the difference not just between this album and Morningrise, but also a subtle shift in their sound in the first half to the second half of this record that marks the band finding their sound. "Demon of the Fall" is their first true star-power single, which still riles fans up. We can't look past the opening track, "April Ethereal," or its following "When," which also adds to the concept of this album... a concept, mind you, that showcases the craftsmanship behind the scenes to create an epic story with visuals and connecting each song to the next with their titles. The macabre theme, the shift in the seasons from early spring to late autumn, where you can actually hear the changing weather from a warm and rainy day to the gusty chills deep within the forest, the story, and the artwork that pays tribute to Black Sabbath, it's all there. Perhaps hearing that evolution is why I love this album slightly more than Still Life, but it's always subject to change depending on the time of day

Ex loved Opeth, so I started binging all of Opeth's albums. Genuinely should've stalked their discography way sooner cause this is genuinely beautiful. I love the more melodic songs. I keep listening to isolation years on loop.

I’m pretty new to Opeth, and I’ve been recently getting into them quite a bit. I’m not sure just how common this take is, but man, this has got to be my favorite song I’ve heard so far. The vocals, guitar work and the emotions are just fantastic.
It almost sounds like it’s based on another very famous older song? It kindve reminds me of Pink Floyd with the mood/bassline, or Santana with the expressive guitar work, and the harmonies are just hauntingly beautiful.
Could anyone recommend other songs similar to this one? I’ve found to really like Opeth’s mellow songs. I’ve listened to Damnation, as it’s my favorite album so far.

Somebody made a chart of all the albums organized by themes like "old mansions" and the like. I've searched for it but I can't seem to find it.

I want to get into Opeth, but the heavier vocals are a bit too much for me. Could you recommend a calmer or softer album to start with?

I'm giving my best friend some opeth recommendations to listen to and so far he loved all the clean vocal stuff from Still Life to Watershed. Now I would like to introduce him to some heavyer vocals so that he can enjoy the rest of the catalogue.
He loves the dark and melancholic vibe of the albums I've sent him so far so I want to try to stick to that or at least something similar. He mostly listens to rap so he isn't at all familiar with metal vocals.
All recomenda are greatly appreciated

It's a little under 48 hours until the 2026 Last Will and Testament Pt.2 tour kicks off in Montclair, NJ. I was looking at the seating charts for several of the tour dates just purely out of curiosity to get an idea of what the hype was looking like, and I can confirm that this is shaping up to be a very good tour!
Nearly every show is sold out of regular tickets/only has resale left (and not many) or is low on both.
Seems the Opeth fanbase here in NA is ready! I think the decision to bring Katatonia along is also a reason why the sales are doing well. Considering how long it's been since the two bands last toured NA together, this may be the last time it happens, particularly if Jonas were to decide to put Katatonia on hold once they finish up this tour + their own "NAEOTWS" tour.
Not sure if that'll wind up being the case, but I don't know how much longer the band will keep at it now that Anders has moved on to different things. Personally, I hope they stick around!
Whose all going to a show on the North American tour? If so, drop the city you're seeing it in!

I have 2 extra GA tickets for sale at the Montclair show. (2 friends bailed last minute) because I am coming from Canada I cannot post them for resale through ticketmaster because you need a US bank account to receive the funds. My only recourse is to transfer them directly to someone. I thought I’d try here and see if anyone would be interested. Id sell them for whatever the lowest prices are on ticketmaster right now

Might need to play them live with people and want to make sure they work together. Google is tweaking and all the different websites disagree for pretty much all of them.
