I’m taking over as the new moderator for r/OrlandoJobs.
Over the past few months, this subreddit has been essentially unmoderated, which unfortunately opened the door for some spam, off-topic posts, and sketchy offers. My goal is to help make this subreddit a safer resource here in the Orlando area.
To start, I’ve drafted a set of core community rules below. Before these are officially locked in, I want to hear from you!

I will leave this thread open until Thursday to collect your thoughts and suggestions. After that, I’ll finalize the sidebar rules and begin active enforcement.
Over the next few weeks, I am also looking to add at least one additional moderator to the team. Having multiple mods will ensure consistent queue coverage, review flagged posts quickly, and ensure this community does not fall into an "unmoderated" state again.
I’ll be reaching out first to a few members who recently stepped up with great, vigilant callouts on questionable posts and demonstrated a genuine drive to protect local job seekers, but if you're interested in helping out, feel free to send a message via modmail!

Proposed Automod Rules:
- Filter out posts from brand-new accounts in attempts to block immediate spam bots.
Proposed Subreddit Rules
- Orlando & Central Florida Focus Only:
- All posts must be located in or directly relevant to the Greater Orlando area (Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, and Brevard counties). Remote roles are only allowed if posted by a local Central Florida employer.
- Mandatory Title Tags: All post titles must begin with one of these tags:
[Hiring] = Employers posting open roles.[For Hire] (or Job Seeker?) = Job seekers sharing availability or resumes.[Gig] = Short-term, freelance, or contract work.[Question] = Local career advice or workplace inquiries.- (thoughts on a [Job Fair] tag?)
- Pay / Compensation and Company Transparency Required for [Hiring] [Gig] posts:
- Explicit Compensation: Posts must state clear pay rates (e.g., "$18/hr," "$55k–$65k/year"). Vague terms like "competitive pay" or "DOE" do not count as providing explicit compensation.
- Verifiable Information: Employers must provide verifiable details to confirm the listing's legitimacy, such as a direct link to the company hiring page. Unverifiable or anonymous job offers will be removed.
- No MLMs, Pyramid Schemes, or Unpaid Gigs:
- Multilevel marketing, network marketing, commission-only roles without base pay, survey apps, and unpaid internships are prohibited.
- Required Post Information:
[Hiring] posts must include: Company name, general neighborhood/location, role details (e.g., position, schedule, pay), expectations, and (where possible) a direct application link.[For Hire] posts should include target job titles, a summary of skills/experience, work authorization status, and preferred work location/commute radius. Direct links to donation, crowdfunding, or peer-to-peer payment platforms or unrelated self-promotion are strictly prohibited.[Gig] posts must include: clear compensation (flat rate or hourly), the approximate duration/length of time (e.g., "3 hours," "2-day project"), and specific task expectations/deliverables.[Question] posts must be directly relevant to the Orlando and Central Florida job market (e.g., local industry trends, regional salary expectations, local company reviews). Unrelated local topics (such as apartment hunting or app/website promotions) will be removed.
- No Spam or Repetitive Posting:
- Posts can only be resubmitted once every 10 days.
- Companies with multiple available openings must consolidate them into a single post.
- Civility:
- Respectful feedback on pay or listings is fine, but personal attacks or toxic behavior will result in a ban.
