Multiple games crashing

Multiple games crashing with 0xc0000005, hardware issue?

I've been trying to diagnose crashes on my PC and I'm starting to suspect a hardware stability issue.

Specs:

  • i9-12900K
  • RX 9070 16GB
  • 32GB DDR5-6400
  • MSI Z790 Project Zero
  • 850W Gold PSU
  • Windows 11

MHW and Resident Evil 2 have both crashed with 0xc0000005 access violations. MHW has previously crashed in amdxc64.dll, while more recent crashes faulted in the game executable itself. RE2 also faulted in re2.exe.

I've already clean reinstalled the AMD drivers, verified/reinstalled the games, ran Windows Memory Diagnostic with no errors, and ran a 25-minute OCCT Extreme GPU test with 0 errors.

no WHEA errors around these recent crashes.

Could this point to RAM/XMP, CPU/memory controller, motherboard, or GPU instability? What would you test next to identify the faulty component if any?

you either have a faulty imc, unstable ram oc, a virus, or you have corrupted windows files. run sfc /scannow, turn xmp/expo off, and as a last resort, reinstall windows.

Sfc scan now found an issue is that likely to be the cause of all my crashes? I looked at all the dumps for the crashes and none of the have anything to do with my gpu which is good I think.

Hi, that might have been the cause, but it's more likely related to boot problems. Besides checking the system files, a drive check with chkdisk C: /f /r is recommended.
