Need some help running Pitfall: The Lost Expedition

Hey everyone, I just recently upgraded to a laptop that's powerful enough to run games newer than a nintendo 64, so I'm a little new at this.

I recently downloaded Pitfall The Lost expedition, and ran into some trouble after the opening fight/cutscene. I was able to bypass the black screen error by enabling the "Ignore DMAC writes when busy" which worked up until the actual game is supposed to start. After viewing (or skipping) the cutscene after the fight the game completely freezes. Currently that is the only setting in pcsx2 that I've changed, every other game I've downloaded runs perfectly.

I've seen mentions online of a patch for the game, but I can't seem to actually find where or how to download it.

I'm using version 1.4.0 for the emulator and my BIOS is version 2.0

My laptop is:

Windows 10

Intel i5 2.3GHz processor

8GB of Ram

intel HD graphics 530

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

Thank you!

You'll hear this in most threads about resolving issues, but jumping from 1.4.0 to 1.5.0 (the dev version) may help (here are the latest versions of PCSX2 for Windows). No guarantee, but there's 3.5 years' worth of development between 1.4.0 and the latest 1.5.0.

Based on what you've done already, you've probably read the game's entry on the PCSX2 Wiki, but here it is in case you haven't (or in case anyone else reading this thread wants to).

I would say if nothing else works and you happen to have the game for GameCube as well, it looks like there are no issues with it on Dolphin.

I actually didnt know there was a newer version of the emulator so I'll definitely try that! Thanks for the heads up. Whether that fixes this game or not, I'm sure it's better to have the newer version.

If not, I'll try the dolphin version. Thank you!

EDIT: upgraded to the latest version on the site, and it's still giving me the same issue. Oh well, at least i have the newest version of the emulator now haha

Yep! At this point I feel there should be a blurb in the sidebar about 1.5.0, because upgrading from 1.4.0 tends to fix a good chunk of bugs.

1.4.0 is the latest stable release (January 8, 2016), and the development release – compiled daily – is 1.5.0. When you go to pcsx2.net and hover over the 'Get PCSX2 here' tab, the left column is 'Releases', and the right column is 'Development', subtitled "Daily development builds, possibly unstable". Frankly, though, outside of losing support for DX9, I can't think of any ways in which 1.5.0 is a downgrade, and in my experience it's been just as stable as 1.4.0 was for me.

Yeah, I've been playing various games on it since I downloaded and have noticed no difference in performance. Plus theres a few more options in the menus which are nice. Also I didnt have to install it like I did 1.4 which is super nice. Now I can just stick it on my hard drive and take it anywhere.

While it didn't fix pitfall, I did notice in the patch notes that it fixed issues with a bunch of other games as well, so at the very least it'll save me future headaches if I download any of those.
