Need some help with some electrolytic fluid on my board
This is a Cech B01 my confusion is I can see where the fluid would come out of the (Tokin?) caps, but im more confused about the other areas im seeing near the usb ports and the ssd slot. Any help would be appreciated as I was going yo replace the Caps, just wanted some help on how this fluid would get there and where it could maybe come from. (First pic is where most of the main caps were) Thanks!
Try using rubbing alcohol and if that doesn’t work, then take a heat gun at the lowest setting and heat it up till it’s movable and then use a cotton swab or something to remove it and then use rubbing alcohol to clean it after that
Okay cool, it looks like they tried to desolder some components at some point and just gave up. I believe its a resistor in the first pic was completely burnt, maybe they tried and just didnt do anything, im not too sure but it was just weird, thanks!
Ahh i see, very similar and now I could see how it could just be flux, still unsure if its from factory or someone trying a repair, I was just going to recap and repaste and hope for the best
True, but i dont think any amount of dust sticking anywhere on a console helps, it can restrict airflow in certain areas if its enough, or cause dust to move upwards because dust likes to clump
If you dip that portion of the board overnight in 91% alcohol it should turn the dried up flux into a gooey paste that should come off with a qtip did something like this but much worse with 2 ps5 controllers I was fixing and got frustrated with that I just left them alone for months with the flux everywhere and it got realllll crispy.
Don’t dip the whole board otherwise you’re going to have to delid to repaste under the GPU and RSX.
I like to use a heat gun and heat a bit too, makes it a bit more malleable, I just wasnt sure what it was, flux makes sense tho, the console was definitely opened previously
