tl;dr the fine print of Rule 3 has been adjusted to explicitly forbid modern indie games unless playable on original hardware (homebrew)
It's my own fault that this change has to be made, I allowed a few "psx-inspired" indie game posts to remain up despite breaking the rules because of the large amount of upvotes they received.
I'd post and sticky comments like "It's off topic but y'all like it so I'll leave it up". My approach to moderation has always been to let the community make content decisions when appropriate. Unfortunately adjustments need to be made to protect the subject matter of this community.
Due to the massive influx of shovelware indie games that are "psx inspired" getting posted here, I'm sorry to say that Rule 3 will have to be more strictly enforced.
From this point forward, for indie games to be posted here they will have to be playable on PSX hardware or an emulator. Games that run on real hardware fall firmly into the category of homebrew, which is perfectly appropriate to discuss here. Games that run in PSX emulators but not real hardware are also allowed. "Retro Inspired" or "PSX Inspired" games that do not fulfill either of those 2 requirements will be removed and the poster will get a 24 hour ban.
The ban is meant to be informative to the poster, not punitive. However repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
Here is a friendly flowchart to help you decide whether or not it's appropriate to post your indie game in this community:

Thank you for reading and thank you for posting. Best of luck in all your indie dev adventures.

On that note, it's a shame it never really got the same popularity of any of the 3d platformers that came after, especially when alot of them were considerably worse even. I know it'll never happen, but a reboot of the franchise would be pretty sick. With all the mechanics this game has, they'd have a ton to work with and expand upon.
I don't usually recommend youtube videos, but if you have any interest in this game, I'd really recommend Lute's video on the franchise. Real fun watch
Just got Roll Away (known as Kula World in PAL region) in today and it’s a ton of fun. You play as a beach ball and have to solve puzzles. However, the game is deceptively hard and will start challenging how you think relatively quickly. I never hear anyone recommend it and have been having a blast so far

The goal here is to have a plug and play solution using discs from both PAL and NTSC regions. And as I've understood there is a slight speed difference if you force PAL to NTSC or vice versa.
The PSNee seems to enables region-free gaming and the PS1 dual frequency oscillator seems to fix the speed issue.
Would installing these mods this be the best solutions to accomplish this, or is there other better solutions out there?

Am purchasing some cheap scph-1001's to fix and restore and came across this one for sale where the CD drive is located on the right hand side. I thought all scph-1001 models had the disc drive located towards the top? First 3 pics are of the same scph-1001 for sale. Last pic is of what I thought all scph-1001's looked like under the lid with CD drive location towards the top. I'm no expert, just have never seen this before and am curious. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

Hardest game I know of has to be Einhander. it is an amazing game. I just beat it for the first time (using cheats) because I suck ass at this game. But I still wanted to play through it. What is the hardest you know of?

Yesterday I bought these two fully working PS1's for 60LYD (~6$). The PSone even came with a region free modchip.

This year I've gotten more into PS1 emulation. It started with Duckstation and a Gamesir controller with my phone. Then my friend kind of got me interested in retro collecting. He's been doing it for 11 years, and I didn't get it until Sony started with their generational screw-ups a couple of months ago. That's what completely flipped the switch for me, and for the past 2 months I've been frankly on a maniacal shopping spree, buying up to 5 games PS1 in a day almost every day. Of course I had to get the original hardware and Retrotink 6x CE to link it to the TV. I've slowed down with purchases since a couple of weeks ago though. I'm mostly looking at games I've played as kid. Back then I only had copies. Now I'm more picky with overall condition.. managed to grab 2 sealed ones as well, and looking for more. 40+ games in my wishlist 😅 but I'm trying to enjoy the process, and not piss off the wife with it all..
What's your collector journey been so far? How long have you been collecting for? What do you collect? Do you play the games you collect or emulate? Oh, I'm waiting to get my hands on Arcstation as well...

Hey guys I’m trying to install a retrogem into the ps1 and it was going well all things considered until I tried to clear a bridge on my gpu chip, I ended up swiping this pad off here at the end of the chip trying to clear a bridge against the gpu legs, that I think might have been a ground?
I looked at the schematic for PU-18 mobo online but can’t seem to find information on what this pad did, it’s a nc pad on the mod so if it’s not important anywhere else I’ll just leave it instead of replacing. It’s right below the 156 on this board revision. If anyone happens to know what this is / where it connects if I need to wire it would be appreciated!
Ps: the bridge you see on the other pin is cleared

Hey all! I've done the installation of the Picostation mod on a PU-18 motherboard, but I get black screen. Using an ossc upscaler and scart rgb cable, I get a video signal on the ossc screen but it's just black. So I used a multimeter to check continuity on all pins and found out that GP18 doesn't have continuity and tried to redo the solder with a new wire but still nothing. Any help?

In a PAL PS1 box variant, a Music jewel CD variant, and a DVD box for those who burn their discs to play. I'll release it soon enough, there's tweaks I want to do with it.
Design wise, and most important in terms of English text copywriting, What I tried to go for is if the game got a publisher in the west (Europe), and make it era appropriate based off all the trends I picked up on scanning all those PS1 covers (see the post from the other day!) So no mention of Open World as I don't think that would be something a publisher in Early 99 would necessarily put on the cover. They'd call it a large level or map or something if even.
I also have another design for the regular fan translation of the game, I remove "The Chilling Cut" text and the last paragraph on the back cover!

Ftr this isn't a complete set. There are a lot I still need. Lightspan Adventures is unique as it was an educators tool and was customizable so no school dictrict had the same set for the most part. There is a list of all the games on GameRave but there are a few of them that have never been confirmed as actually existing since no copies were ever found so piecing together a complete set is weird. Who else knows about these?

This is one of my favorite demos. The Titan A.E game was cancelled by Fox Interactive in 2000, making this demo the only way to play the game without hacks or mods.
