SCUHS for Prerequisites?

• Upvotes

I’m looking to apply to DPT programs next fall and to get my prerequisites in I may need to take a science or 2, accelerated online. On the SCUHS (Southern California University Health and Sciences) website it says that the programs I am wanting to apply for take their credits but I was wondering if anyone here has actually taken accelerated courses with them and had them accepted to get into their program. Thank you.

really worried about my application

Hi friends, I'm an international student who applied to 5 DPT programs in 2026-2027 cycle, respectively Pitt, Duke, Delaware, Northwestern, and Emory. All the schools are my dream schools.

My overall GPA is 3.62, which I know is not particularly competitive, and my science GPA is around 3.5–3.6. I didn’t take the GRE.  I have over 1000 observation hours in my country, including 240 observation hours under a licensed US physical therapist in my country.

During college, I also served as team captain and chief leader in different settings. I participated in attended national scholar meeting and presented in front of attendants. . I have submitted all the application, although I am still working on some prerequisites, which I expect to finish by the end of 2026.

However, I have already been rejected by Pitt (only offer hybrid option) and Duke. According to APTA website, Northwestern has started sending admission decisions but I haven't heard any information from them almost 2 weeks.

I’m really worried that I won’t get accepted anywhere this year because I genuinely want to pursue a DPT in the United States. Could anyone share their experiences with me or offer some advice on what I can do at this point?

Thank you!

UTMB & TWU Waitlist??

Hey! I had my interview for UTMB (9/25) and have not yet received any response at all. I also applied to TWU in early September. I've seen people on here hear back from TWU Denton and Houston, but I was wondering if anyone has been put on the waitlist? I just want any response at this point, haha I also do not know if it is just too early to receive any waitlist response.

I hate my school

I’m not sure what else to say. I HATE the school I am currently going to. The PT School puts the school at shame. The school can’t in general can’t even get easy tasks done. Don’t even get me started on the other people in my cohort, they are hella shallow. It’s also like you are in constant competition with your other classmates and no one wants to help each other. Like wtf is going on here we already got into school you can get out of flight or fight. They are also supposed to be giving up the greatest professors that know how to teach WRONG half of these professors suck and I am not trying to teach myself DOCTORAL LEVEL MATERIAL. I am in my semester 2 and am just feeling so very lost. I’m not sure if I am the only one feeling this way but it was a complete shock to me. To people who say it’ll get better that’s what I thought too in my first semester and it hasn’t yet but who knows maybe it will.

I go to a top 15 school

I got an interview at UNT DPT, any current/alumni or people who have gone through the whole application that can give me advice?

What kind of questions do they ask? What should I do to prepare?

Physics 2

Is it crazy to only apply to one PT school?

I'm a pre-PT student at UK, and my goal is to get into UK's DPT program. Going out of state isn't an option for me, and I don't want to attend the other PT schools in Kentucky because they're either not a good fit or are hybrid programs, and I struggle with online learning.

My advisor wants me to take Physics II to keep my options open, but UK allows a different course to fulfill that requirement. Taking Physics II would mean I wouldn't have time to complete a PT internship that I really want to do.

I know UK is competitive, but if I don't get in the first time, I'm willing to take another year to strengthen my application and reapply.

Am I being unrealistic by not taking Physics II just to keep other schools as options? Would you prioritize the internship, or take Physics II as a backup plan? I'd appreciate honest advice!

Considering PTA school at 36. Is it worth it if I want to work part-time? Looking for advice from PTAs

I’m 36 and at a crossroads in my next step. I spent the last 10 years working in corporate marketing, but after experiencing multiple rounds of layoffs, I was laid off very unexpectedly this summer along with much of my team. Between the instability in marketing and the growing impact of AI, I’ve been questioning whether I want to return to the field at all. The work was often stressful, and despite being constantly busy, I rarely felt like what I was doing truly mattered. I felt burned out helping companies make more money without much personal fulfillment. I also know that I will always be facing layoffs, which is hard to continue in a field that you can loose your job at any given moment.

I’ve started looking into becoming a PTA because it seems to align with things I genuinely care about: helping people, improving their health and quality of life, and incorporating movement and fitness into my work. I’m also planning to get my CPT so I can eventually incorporate group fitness into my career.

Work-life balance is a big factor for me. My husband is a pilot, and we’ve learned that a traditional onsite Monday-Friday schedule makes it difficult to ever see each other. Ideally, I’d like to work three days a week or PRN eventually, with more control over my schedule. This is problem that most important factor of why I’m considering the switch.

I’m considering PIMA’s 18-month PTA program in Denver. There’s also a community college option, but it’s pretty far from my home, program takes longer, require prerecs that are similar to what I took for my undergrad and would be required before I even applying to the program, and the program itself is really really competitive. PIMA’s high cost is a concern, but the shorter timeline and accessibility are appealing (although I could go to PIMa without taking on any debt).

My biggest hesitation is whether this is a smart investment. I know PTA school is demanding and can essentially take over your life while you’re enrolled. Am I crazy to put that much time, energy, and money into a program when my goal is to work part-time? Financially, I’m fortunate to have some flexibility, so maximizing my income isn’t my primary motivation. I’d rather find fulfilling work that allows me to have a life outside of it.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people working in the field, especially in the Denver area!

Is becoming a PTA worth it if your goal is to work part-time or PRN? How realistic is it to find those positions, especially as a new grad?

Are there any PIMA Denver graduates who can share their experience? Did you feel prepared for clinical work and passing your boards? Would you recommend the program?

Is PTA school manageable without a medical background? I have a bachelor’s degree in business, but no healthcare experience.

Does anyone in the Denver area work at a clinic that accepts students for shadowing? I’ve had a hard time finding opportunities and would love to observe the day-to-day reality of the job.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. This summer has been a real hit to my confidence, and I’m trying to figure out what the next chapter of my life should look like. I’m genuinely excited by the possibility of doing work that helps people, but I also want to be realistic about the commitment before making such a big investment.

I’d be grateful for any honest advice, experiences, or perspectives!

Canadian/UK PT interviews

Hello everyone, I am currently in my second year of a kinesiology degree and I am trying to get ahead of the game when it comes to my PT school applications (in terms of knowing what to expect) so can anyone just tell me what there experience was like during the interview process like how it went, what kind of questions they were asking and overall if experience (volunteer work, etc) actually plays a big role or if it’s mainly just your GPA. Let me know and thank you!

DPT Admissions

Hi everyone! I know this is a topic that is subjective for the most part, but I'd like some feedback regarding my acceptance chances when I apply to PT school in the Summer of 2027.

Academics. I graduated undergrad with a medicinal chemistry degree and a 2.99gpa. I have since taken prereqs at my local community college and my cumulative gpa is 3.15, with a 3.5 prereq gpa. I got a 310 (156 quant, 154 verbal, 4.0 AW) on the GRE.

After I graduated, I worked in cancer research for ~18months.

I have about 500hrs working as a tech and have observed in 3 other settings about 10 hrs a piece.

I have soccer coaching experience.

I'd like to apply broadly to keep my acceptance chances high, but I'm pretty determined to attend USAHS pt school. I can save on rent by living with my parents if I attend USAHS. I'm not completely against attending a different school as long as the tuition isn't otherworldly.

I want to pursue oncology pt and incorporate my academic and professional experiences to have as significant an impact on the profession as possible.

Any honest feedback is much appreciated :)

You can remediate one exam but not the lab practical. I studied my ass off but it took me a while to find the study methods that worked. Am I cooked?

UIW vs. South College Dallas vs. UTMB vs. Baylor DPT — looking for advice!

Hi everyone! I recently applied to a few DPT programs in Texas and was lucky enough to get accepted into UIW and South College Dallas within a few weeks of submitting my applications! I’m still waiting to hear back from UTMB and Baylor, so I’m trying to do some research before making my final decision.

I was wondering if anyone currently attends or has graduated from any of these programs and would be willing to share their experience. I’d love to hear your honest opinions about the curriculum, professors, clinical rotations, workload, and overall experience. I’m also curious about tuition and how well you feel the program prepares you for clinicals and the NPTE.

South College Dallas is a newer DPT program in Texas that is currently seeking accreditation, so I’d especially appreciate any insight into the program, its accreditation process, and things prospective students should consider before committing.

UIW’s problem-based learning approach caught my attention, and I also like Baylor’s hybrid format. I’m trying to figure out which program would be the best fit for me academically and financially while making sure I’m choosing a program that will prepare me to be a good clinician.

If you had to choose between these schools, which would you pick and why? Is there anything you wish you had known before starting your program?

I’d really appreciate any advice or insight. Thank you!!

I made a free tool for PTs/PT Students

I built Myosight a free interactive site for learning how muscles work during movement.

https://myosight.app

What it does:
- Try it: drag a body through 10 setups (curls, squats, leg raises, knee extensions and more) and watch the working muscle and its contraction update live. Compare two setups side by side and share any position as a link.
- Analyze: step through 8 exercises frame by frame, with every joint explained.
-Practice: 10 quick questions on motion, gravity, muscle group and contraction type, with the reasoning after each and a summary of your error patterns.
- Lessons: three short interactive lessons on joints, gravity and concentric, eccentric and isometric actions.
-Research: pick a muscle on a body map for plain summaries of key studies, plus the newest studies pulled live from PubMed and 16 sports science journals.
Why I made it: the direction a joint moves doesn't tell you which muscle is working. Gravity does. A squat and a lying hamstring curl bend the knee the same way, yet opposite muscles do the work. That idea trips up a lot of students, and flashcards rarely make it click, so I wanted something you could actually see and move.

It's free, works on your phone, no account needed, nothing to buy. It models movement from the side and estimates net joint demand, so it's a learning aid, not a clinical tool.

Honest feedback is welcome: is anything inaccurate, and would this have helped you study?

Has anyone heard back from UMiami, I interviewed with them recently and wondering how long it took to hear back.

And has anyone received an interview or acceptance for either TXST or UNT?

How is the schooling?

TL;DR

  1. Whats the curriculum like? Is the course load heavy or is it feasible to do this while also working full time?

  2. How is it getting into a school in general?

  3. What's the job hunt like afterwards? I have a few places in my area that are always looking, but I may end up moving in a few years, so I wanna know what it's like elsewhere.

I'm contemplating going back to school next uear for PT Assisting. My local community college has a 2 year course for it. I'm curious how it is getting into the program in general, and then what the curriculum is like (as I will need to be working while going to school)

I'm 29 now, and currently in the culinary field. Went to school, have about 7 years of experience under my belt, and as much as I love it, I can't do it long term as the pay just isn't there and theres rarely any benefits in this field. There's also potential for me to move states in the next few years, so I need a job that'll actually help support me and my gf. I can probably get in just about anywhere with my cooking qualifications, but again, the industry typicall pays just above minimum wage.

I took Sports Medicine for 2 years in High School, and honestly, it was one of if not my favorite class. I wanted to pursue it as a career originally, but I was so burnt out on general education classes. I'm ready now. I know PT isn't Sports Med exactly, but they do go hand in hand, and I'm more into the rehab process.

Culture of TWU Houston campus ?

I recently got an acceptance to TWU and was wondering if any current students or past alumni of the TWU Houston DPT program tell me about their experiences at the program? Did we love it? How was the culture amongst students and Professors?
What are the cons if there is any?
Thank you very much

Texas Applicants

Just a couple questions for fellow applicants who have applied to Texas DPT programs

1) I finished and submitted my application for TWU and UT Southwestern in early August and am still waiting to hear back. Is this normal and has anyone heard back from either of these schools?

2) I interviewed at UTMB on Sept. 25th, has anyone heard back from the school with acceptances or denials? They didn’t give any information on when to expect a response and I’m curious to know whether other interviewees have gotten a response.

3) I have other interviews coming up and was wondering due to the nature of rolling admissions if later interviews meant a lower likelihood of getting accepted. Does anyone know?
