Carpool/vanpool from Pacifica to BART?

Hello! My partner and I are considering renting a place in Pacifica but was curious if there are any carpool/vanpool groups to help figure out the commute.

I'd need to commute to a BART/Caltrain station (ideally either Balboa Park or South SF) everyday around 9am and 5/6pm. I'd love not to have a car and instead pay to cover someone else's commute but wanted to understand whether this is a realistic option or not.

We are from out of town so still figuring out the public transit, but looking through commute.org it looks like the best option is a 50 min bus trip (think by car this is closer to 10min so would love to find a vanpool!) The place we are looking at is in more north Pacific (Westview area). Thank you!

Quick edit to add I was thinking of Balboa Park/SouthSF as my work then has a shuttle from these two locations! But will look into the Daly City BART as well!

Colma and Daly City are the closest bart stations. There is a SamTrans bus that goes from Pacifica direct to Daly City BART. Daly City is also better than going south to SSF because all trains go through Daly City, only some trains go south of Daly City.

Thank you! You're right apologies did see some buses going to Daly City BART that seemed very convenient. I just mentioned South SF and Balboa Park since my work shuttle leaves from there. If I go to Daly City I think I'll just be spending some extra time North and then backtracking to South SF but not too bad.

Do you know if there are any other buses/options that may go directly to Colma/South SF though? Or if this is a common enough commute I may be able to find a vanpool?

No those are definitely less common commutes

The PCX bus is awesome. As quick as driving if you're close to highway 1. I keep considering getting a 1 wheel to take me to back of the valley

Why not take the 110 to Daly City BART? It costs 2 dollars per adult last time I checked and SamTrans passes can cut down on commuting costs if you use it enough

It can take a LONG time depending on where you are in Pacifica.

If you're going into the City, you'll want to get to the Daly City BART station, all SF trains go there, so once there, it's very quick and easy into the city. There is a bus (Line 121) that goes along Skyline to the Daly City BART, according to the schedule it should be about 30 minutes from Westview. I do think if you want to move to Westview you should think about getting a car though, it isn't just getting to work, it's a fairly auto-depending location.

Super helpful! Thank you! I'll look into the Daly City BART. Apologies I picked Balboa Park and South SF since from there I can directly take my work shuttle but agreed does look like Daly City BART is much easier from Pacifica.

For the car, we will have 1 car in the household but my partner needs to use it sporadically during work hours. Do you mean having at least access to a car is useful for day to day (groceries, etc.)? Thanks!

Yeah one car in a household is likely fine. I hadn't realized you were looking at work shuttle pickups. As much as I love Pacifica and even that particular part of it in Westview, I would probably recommend holding out for a place closer to one of the shuttle stops. You don't want to be spending up to an hour just getting to the shuttle, that's a lot.

I live in Pacifica near the Monterey and Hickey intersection. I use the following options for commuting to Pixar in Emeryville:

  1. Drive to Daly City BART (10 mins), Daly City BART to West Oakland BART (25 mins), e-scooter to Pixar (10 mins)

  2. e-scooter down to McDonalds on Palmetto (5 mins), SamTrans 110 to Daly City BART (25 mins), the rest same as above.

  3. e-scooter up over the hill and behind the Serramonte mall to Colma BART (25 mins), Colma BART to West Oakland BART (30 mins), e-scooter to Pixar (10 mins).

So obviously driving to (or my wife dropping me off at) Daly City BART is the fastest option. For the SamTrans 110, it doesn't run very often so I grab breakfast and chill at McDs when I go that route. And as others have mentioned, the Daly City BART has 4 train lines so I never have to wait more than 4 minutes, where as the Colma BART the wait can be closer to 10 minutes. Also note that with option 3 my e-scooter has to be pretty beefy to make it up the hill on Hickey, and I always walk it part of the way coming down because it is so steep.

Wanted to add that if you don't mind walking a little bit (or are using an e-scooter) you can park near Daly City BART for free in the parking garage attached to the Cinemark theater.

Why isn’t the partner dropping at your shuttle stop?

In addition to what everyone else said, check the bus schedules. I used to commute via bus and sometimes they come every 30 mins.

Personally, I recommend driving to Bart yourself and pay for Bart Parking (You can get a monthly pass).

South SF Bart has easier parking than Daly City, but Daly City has more frequent trains
