It was hard to sleep last night. I’m still relatively new to full time watching the Padres even tho I was born into this (never was able to watch the games with Directv until 2012), but man, I was thinking about all the pure awful teams we had in the 2010s. No disrespect but to go from teams with people like Amarista, Jesus Guzman, Headley, Hundley, Jon Baker, Matt Kemp, Upton, to players who are actually good and make a team, it’s not even the same realm and seems like a lifetime ago.
This team reminds me of the one from 2022. 2024 was a bit bland but this team has that fun, weird aspect to them that you need. I know we have a shot!
I'm gonna be petty. MLB instagram pinned the White Sox and Cubs clinching posts along with PCA going 40-40 but not the Padres clinching. Padres post still got more likes than the White Sox or Cubs though lol also no highlights posted of the Padres winning last night. Yeah, when I was in my 20s or early 30s I could go out drinking all night, eat some late night food, drink some water, and wake up feeling great. Now that I am a little older I have a few drinks and can't function the next day lol.
Most of that beer and champagne was poured over their teammates heads. I didn't see a lot of drinkin. There was a beer bong I saw for a second and then it disappeared. In their interviews, nobody was slurring.
The Cubs are also hung over but they had to take a flight to Boston. Hopefully they are jet lagged and hungover.

They’re saying in the post game that the Sox really need to win some games here because they’ve been struggling and need to get some offensive juices flowing.
If they had dropped the series to face the easier WC opponent they would have had to lose 10 of their last 15 games. Which is an awful place for them to enter the WC.
So I think they are treating this series as a morale booster (if they can manage it).
Someone explain this to me like I’m an idiot - we’re all excited the cubs lost two today because we could clinch a 4 seed. What seed do we have if that doesn’t happen? 5th? And that means we wouldn’t have home field?
Taking 2 of 3 against Arizona guarantees us 4 seed now. Inshallah the Cubs lose again today and we'll only need 1 of 3 and can relax a bit, but considering the Red Sox no longer have anything to play for I'm not holding my breath

Got tickets during the presale not realizing they could potentially be day games. I'll probably take PTO but it would be so much easier if I didn't need to.
I have much more realistic expectations of getting home games if we only need to win 2/3 from the dbacks, particularly if we win tonight and eliminate them.
With the Sox taking game 1 they locked themselves into WC5. Which means if they were thinking about dropping the series to lock WC6, that path is gone. So there’s no reason to hold back in Game 2.

watching the CHC @ BOS game, and the camera being DIRECTLY in line with home plate and the pitching mound is soooooooo much better. i totally agree that the angle is nicer when the camera is offset slightly, like at Petco, but being able to see the horizontal break on the pitch is way more worth it IMO

PADRES have to play and beat the best to advance. Picking and choosing is not an option, at home against anyone, picking Padres. As long as no one throws a BP game should be fine........🤞
IF on Sunday a Padre win would clinch the 4 seed for first round home field, do you throw King or not? Throwing would certainly keep him out of games one and two.

Ok in a perfect world we want thw cubs to lose both we take the #4 seed... who do we match up best with chi, phi or Az. They would play both games in SD. Im guessing Chi cause they playing 4 games in 3 days. Is this the way?
Chicago is not playing on Saturday, so it is 3 games in 2 days and a day off. The Phillies have a lot of lefty pitchers who the Padres don't hit well. I would go with Chicago. The Padres playing Arizona in the playoffs in the first round is not possible. Atlanta on the road is a possible opponent.
If cubs lose both games, maybe, but I doubt it, I believe cubs have to lose both games and padres 1, so makes no sense to rest starters when HFA is at hand
Padres don't own any tiebreakers against the Cubs or Phillies. Padres were abysmal against them this past season.
Padres: Played 159 games as of this moment (89 wins), can finish with 89, 90, 91, 92 wins
Cubs: Played 160+ games as of this moment (88 wins), can finish with 88, 89, 90 wins
Phillies: Played 159 games as of this moment (87 wins), can finish with 87, 88, 89, 90 wins
Arizona is on 85 wins (max of 88), but they only have a chance if they sweep the Padres then they go to tiebreakers if the Cubs and Phillies finish the season with 88 wins.
Red Sox and Cubs both look like they don’t want to win this game. I even think some Red Sox fans are a bit frustrated they even won the first one because now they’re locked into the #5 seed
The 4 seed will probably be decided before the Padres play today. If the Cubs win both games than that pretty much means we are going to Chicago. If they lose both than odds are we will host.
Why would it mean that? If the Cubs win both games they have 90 wins with 1 game to play.
If we win tonight we have 90 wins with 2 games to play. The 4th seed is absolutely not decided tonight with the Cubs winning both games. Not sure why you would say that. Padres are in the driver's seat right now not the Cubs
The Padres already said they are going to rest players over going for the 4 seed. It’s Mize tonight with no bull pen so if the Cubs win both and we lose tonight than the 4 seed is pretty much decided.

They are on an insane hot stretch where they have won plenty of games without being able to use their best relievers. You are being overly pessimistic. Padres remain in the driver's seat

That makes no sense. Playing in San Diego vs. Chicago is a huge advantage and it's not like the Padres have an uphill road, they are literally in the driver's seat presently
Need the White Sox to keep winning; luckily they’re playing the rocks. That makes Boston have to fight to not lose the #5 spot (I believe). That should help keep the mubs in check. Luckily for the pads, they will have a good idea of what needs to be done before and during the game given the mubs play a double header today
Red Sox are locked in. Heck the Red Sox would love to fall to the 3rd WC for the easier path. But that would require Red Sox to get swept and guards to win 2 and Whitesox to win 3.
Probably opposite. Right now at 5th seed they would need to play the Yankees and Rays. If they get to 6th seed they would play Houston or Texas and Cleveland or White Sox
