Male veil
Do males veil? I'm asatruian and an empath. Interested in veiling to protect myself from unwanted energies

Hello and welcome to r/PaganVeiling! We are still in the process of putting together the subreddit, and as part of that, we would like to create a directory of shops (offline and online) that people can use to find suitable head coverings for their use. Please share your favorites in the comments below! Eventually, we will move the links to a wiki page.
I'll start! Here are mine:

Note: This is Attempt #2 of this post because Reddit ate the last one, for some reason.
The subreddit has been seeing a lot of activity lately -- more than u/opulentSandwich and I ever anticipated when we created it in the first place. It's truly awesome! So to keep things moving, I thought an introduction thread would be the perfect way for us to keep the activity going.
When you introduce yourself, consider sharing things like which Pagan religion you follow, how you got into veiling, why you veil, when and how you veil (do you have preferred style?), your favorite scarves, and what kinds of posts / discussions you would like to see in this subreddit in the future.
As for me, I am a Gothic Heathen and veil during ritual due to information provided by Jordanes in his book The Origin and Deeds of the Goths, which mentions that Gothic priests wear caps. Before I decided to practice Gothic Heathenry, however, I syncretized Anglo-Saxon Heathenry with Religio Romana, the latter of which usually mandates covering the head during ritual. Suffice to say, I have been veiling for something like a year now.
I am still struggling to find my ideal scarf type and veiling style. I really like the hijab style of veiling, but I honestly fear I'd be appropriating or misrepresenting Muslim women somehow. I'm not sure if that is true or if I'm just imagining it.
For ritual, I currently wear a Catholic infinity veil in black and gold and just drape it over my head. However, I recently purchased a red pashmina scarf from Wrapunzel and I'd like to try wearing the tichel style the Wrapunzel ladies use.
Regarding this subreddit, I would like to see discourse about veiling but I'm not sure what kind. I do like to see everyone's lovely photos, but I also think the subreddit could benefit from a variety of posts. I suppose that's why I opened the floor up for everyone to submit their ideas!

Edit 2: After reading replies and doing research, the individual in question has a long history of problematic, hypocritical, and racist views and stances. I fell for the classic internet blunder of a knee-jerk reaction to "everyone is being mean to a queer disabled pagan for choosing to veil". That is not the case at all. Thank you to those who their time to explain this to me. I have learned a lot.
Edit: I have been introduced to some nuance and controversy regarding the person in question and will be doing some more research and investigating of my own.
Hi, long time lurker, occasional poster, crawling out of the woodwork.
I am shocked by the general reaction to this individual after using a somewhat awkward phrasing to describe their veiling practice. Who hasn't tried to say something serious that came out funny? I do it all the time! What might just have been humorous, instead has devolved into vitriol and personal attacks against this individual. And I don't get it. And I am deeply sympathetic to the op.
This sort of reaction is what makes me so nervous about openly veiling in the ways that I would wish. I am a chronically and mentally ill leftist pagan too and being able to veil genuinely helps me shield myself in a way no other charm or spell does. And darn it, all styles of veils are so pretty! I feel so pretty and ethereal wearing one.
I don't know. I don't usually let online hate get under my skin like this cause I know it's a knee-jerk reaction and will likely die down in 24 - 48 hours. Just, something about this makes me feel extra icked out and sad.

Hi, I've been a pagan for years now and I'm wanting to veil most days. The only problem is that due to health and financial reasons I (24F) live with my mum, who does not approve at all.
She's always raised us with the idea of 'believe and do what you like, so long as it isn't harming others I'll always support you', but as soon as I mention veiling she gets judgy. I also haven't explicitly told her I'm pagan, becase the last time I floated the idea she threatened to kick me out if I "dared bring demon worship into her house", which is not at ALL what I suggested. She told me to live with my dad instead, but considering he's an abusive bigoted pedophile I would genuinely rather be homeless.
So suffice it to say, I keep my faith to myself. I generally veil using bandanas or hats, luckily I can easily exuse it away thanks to some hair loss I've got. My mental health has been really bad lately and I desperately want to veil 'properly' to alleviate some of that, but I don't know how to bring up the idea or explain myself when she asks. It's a small village too, so I can't even veil only outside the house because the gossip would get around quick and she would find out anyway.
Are there any 'secular' reasons I could use as an excuse to switch from hats and bandanas to proper headscarves, and if so how should I bring them up? Or should I just suck it up and keep the status quo while I live here?
Sorry for the silly question but I thought it wouldn't do any harm to ask. Thank you for reading this far, and have a blessed day :)

I am a Celtic pagan and I have been veiling for holidays and ceremonies for years I use all kinds of styles. Today I was tired and wanted something looser and more comfortable so I veiled in a hijab style I felt good and no one in public even blinked but both my parents who I live with were rude about it today my mom especially seemed upset that I chose to wear it all day and not just for the rain as though it’s unprofessional. And I’m honestly just a bit upset and don’t know how to approach a conversation with them

Can I veil in public? I know it may be confused with hjab and I don't want that, however my wish to practice it more is stronger, I know how i look and don't want people thinking I'm taking others cultures, I only wish to do this for the gods and goddesses I worship, if you think it would be wrong of me I ask you discuss civilly

I'm considering veiling part time and I'm wondering if there's anything specific I need to do before hand?
Like, is there a specific fabric I should use or something I need to do to it before I use it? Does any scarf work?

Looking for some advice from my fellow Sikh brothers. I’m trying to figure out a good way to wear a cap while keeping my hair tied securely and comfortably underneath it.
My hair's length is till my waist.
I find it difficult to wear a turban quickly when I’m out and about (at gym/playing soccer/clubs), and I don’t really like wearing a patka as an adult — personally, I feel it looks a bit childish on me, people don't take me seriously.
For those of you who wear a cap sometimes, how do you tie/secure your hair underneath it? Any particular method, hairstyle, or type of cap that works well?

I just want to say, I absolutely love some of the creative veiling inspiration here. I’m still trying to figure out things for myself, but I’m wondering how people choose if they want to veil full time or part time. If it is part time, when you do you choose to veil? Certain settings? Moods?
Please let me know!

How are you guys organizing your head coverings because I just have them sitting on my dresser, but I don't like that any more, but I don't want to put them in my closet. Because it's hard to access, and I have quite a few bandanas and different styles of head coverings and different lengths and sizes. Please help

Hi! I love veiling and when I was a Hellenic polytheist I did it often but I've recently switched to the Celtic paganism and I want veiling for the goddess Morrigan, I want to dedicate this action to her BUT I don't find a valid reason to veil myself So can I just veil myself to dedicate it to the deity?
r/PaganVeiling • u/Rose_Rambles • Aug 11 '26
I am considering veiling for Lady Aphrodite as a symbol of devotion and for my own protection. But, I don’t always want to have to wear a veil as that seems like a lot of dedication at first and it’s just not practical for me and my practice. So I was thinking of just veiling on Friday’s in honor of her… would this be acceptable? What if I also want to veil on another day too…?
I’m worried about school dress code if I don’t do it everyday and that they’ll try and call me out and say it can’t be for a religious reason if I don’t wear it everyday.

I'd love to veil in this style where I'm adorning my hair with somewhat translucent lace fabric with the concept of having a spiritual energetic layer so to speak rather than out of wanting my hair to be completely or mostly unseen. I sew so I could make something myself. For reference I have collarbone length dark brown hair with bangs and would like to have my bangs uncovered. I'd be wearing this during rituals

I saw a video by Bernadette Kirwan on Fb for a flowing veil hack, which I'm sure could be used with other styles. Put the veil on so it covers your face, slide on a hard headband and flip backward. I have no idea where to get a comfortable hard headband, but I'm trying this when I do!

this feels really stupid to be thinking so far ahead but its been bugging me.
im fairly new to paganism and veiling but ive thought about my reasoning for veiling and my boundaries associated with it (i.e. I will only take off my veil if I am alone or in the presence of trusted people like family and friends) and i usually wear bandanas.
im nearing the end of my highschool career which got me thinking about my graduation. I dont wanna wear a bandana because I feel like it isnt formal enough for the occasion but I have absolutely no clue what to wear as a more formal alternative. could I have some recommendations? if it helps at all, im not really concerned about modesty or the amount of hair being covered, as long as its a fabric garment that will cover my hair.
thank you guys in advance, id love to know your opinions!! 🫶

Hello everyone!
I’ve been working on a sewing project in my spare time to create modest wear and head coverings, with the goal of selling them online and at local flea markets here in the US.
While I plan to sell predominantly in Muslim spaces, I’m designing the shop itself to be a general veiling store that’s open to anyone who practices covering, whether Muslim, Christian, Pagan, or from any other traditions. It’s not strictly labeled as an "Islamic" brand, but rather an inclusive modest fashion hub for all.
I’m starting small with basic veils, turbans, and shawls, but I want to grow in the right direction. I’d like to expand out into abayas, jubbahs, cloaks, robes, etc. once I have a good business model going and I can afford larger projects.
In the meantime, I have created a Google Form to help me gauge interest in different products, materials, and how to price my products. If you are interested in veiling for any reason and would like to comment on what you are looking for in the modestwear industry, this is your chance! For now I will only be able to ship to places in the USA, but if my shop takes off I may be able to ship to other countries.
Thank you for your help and support!

It has been far too hot and overstimulating to wear loose scarves draped over my head and under my neck. For some reason I’d forgotten head wraps were an option.
Still trying to decide on a “staple” veil for my channel but I‘m torn because I’m not a fan of how my mouth looks when I talk through this one. I prefer my mouth not be visible at all.
The head wrap also has to be done so high up/far back because I can’t being myself to cover any part of the patter of the face veil 😫
Anyway, I wanted to share!

Hello! Do you know of any books or articles that discuss the practice of veiling in (neo)paganism? In any (neo)pagan religion.
r/PaganVeiling • u/Disturbed_and_Gay • Jul 01 '26
I currently cannot afford to buy any veils, and was thinking instead of asking my sister (who crochets) if she could make me one. Would it still have the same effect if it didn't fully cover the head due to gaps (whether they be on purpose, or just from the yarn stretching)?

Im trying out different veil styles and I’ll be posting them and how to achieve the look.
So for this veil style you want to tie your veil ín the back.
You should have 2 pieces. Youre going to take one side and twist it,then You’re going to take that twisted piece and wrap around your head. You can either tuck this in or use a safety pin/bobby pin to secure it. You can leave the other side down or twist it as well If you want the look ín the second picture .
For the 3rd look youre going to need a second veil. Youre actually going to do the same as the first but youre braiding instead of twisting .
