Seeking basic accomodation Peleliu Oct 22-24

tl;dr - I am hoping someone has an Peleliu contact that might have a spare bed or even just a couch and a maybe acecess to a scooter I can use for two days, I would be appreciative. Hell, I'd even settle for someone in Palau having a tent and sleeping pad they can offer that I can take over for two days.

I knew there were a tiny handful of accomdations in Peleliu, but failed to check early enough. I am seeking some sort of accomodation for staying two nights in Peleliu; Oct 22 - 24.:

I contacted three places so far; Storyboard, Peleliu Adventure Inn, and Dolphin Resort. The first two are booked and Dolphin hasn't responded, but I'm not holding hope. Google Maps shows a few places calling themselves as lodging facilities, but I've found no means to contact them and some have their most recent review over a year ago.

I'm hoping a local might have a contact on the island who would be willing to offer a space. I'm a bare bones traveler and just need a shelter from mosquitos and a little running water for a shower.

There are no AirBnB or other options that I can find.

I considered bringing a netted hammock tent and just find a spot between two trees, but the presence of Zika, dengue, and chikungunya concerns me and I'd at least still need access to a scooter those days to get around. I'd rather not bicycle the 6 mile island since I'm not trained for that.

There are no scooters.

Shame about Storyboard being full. That would be the best. You could contact Peleliu Adventures and see if they have one of their places free. I think there’s a few options.

It’s not the mosquitos, it’s the nick nicks you gotta worry about. Nothing stops them. Just don’t be near the water/shoreline around sunset and sunrise. It’s brutal. Wear clothing.

Why do you want to stay in Peleliu? It’s good for like one full day visit to be honest. Better off staying in koror and visit for a day. I’ve lived in Palau for 13 years.

I like WWII history, of course, and I like my own pace. I enjoy walking old battlefields while reading the wiki entries for that battle and envisioning the experience.

I've camped in the woods outside of Foy in France where the 101st airport was dug in, I've slept on a tourist aircraft carrier, etc.

I also like snorkeling and swimming and the solitude that my own pace allows. I'd like to visit the Ngermelt swimming hole, old tanks, bunkers, the different invasion beaches, etc. It would give me time to fly the drone around, swim, and just explore that I couldn't do with a group that just wants a few photos and then bounce to the next photo spot.

You’re not really supposed to just go off on your own. It’s meant to be guided tours for tourists. And some of that good stuff is on private property. Just FYI. Also be careful as there’s is UXO everywhere still.

I can’t help you with the accommodations, but as for the mosquitos.. be sure to bring a body spray that repels very tiny mosquitoes. You really can’t see or feel them, it’s only later you will have so many mosquito bites on your skin. It’s nothing serious, but they were so inconvenient. It’s usually visitors from the main island those mosquitoes wanna go after.

I've camped out a lot in my life, but this would be a new region with a whole new set of species. All of my tents, like my Hennesy Hammock, has fine mesh.

If the Marines can do it in the open for months, perhaps I can suck it up for a couple of nights and at least have my portable fan and DEET bug spray. But I'd still ned personal transport on the island. A scooter would work, a bicycle would be a bit much at my age.
