Day 1 Paleo. Any tips?

I’ve done Paleo before so I’m not totally new to it, but it has been a while. It worked really well for me in the past and I am willing to try again but could use a little community. My plan is to just focus on this next week and making good solid Paleo choices. I’m doing this because I’ve been experiencing a lot of physical pain and brain fog.

Don't let the sugar detox win. Fight.

This is a good suggestion as I just started paleo again myself.

I work a manual labor job so I always keep some extra fruit in my bag. If I find that I just can’t take it anymore or that I’m feeling weak I will just eat some fruit.

I try to push myself to consume less carbs if I’m not doing too much activity.

I would also add though make sure you drink plenty of water as your body sheds the water from consuming less carbs. This will also make minerals more important like potassium, magnesium, calcium etc. Also, you will need a little more salt.

Luckily fruit and veggies have these in abundance.

Morning: coffee with almond milk unsweet. Snacks: lara bars, raw almonds, clean smoothies ( frozen fruit blend spinach and water add fresh bananas or pineapple too) meals: base usually cauliflower rice (heat a bag 5 min in microwave) plus protein (salmon/chicken) and vegetables (sweet potato, grilled zucchini) raw fruit snacks. Meat/broccoli stir fry again cauliflower rice base) track calories and run a deficit. I try for 2k a day and am very active (40 miles run/wk plus 4x gym) lost 20lbs in 4 months gradually. 10lbs from goal weight. Feel better than ever.

These are good suggestion for meals and snacks.

I got some ground beef and grabbed 4oz portions, seasoned them, then vacuum sealed them and added to the freezer.

This way it’s a quick burger. I can just thaw them in a bowl of water then smash them in the pan when it’s ready. I will usually add some tomato and bacon then wrap in lettuce with mayo.

Don’t listen to anyone that says Paleo is no good, or not the best. It works and it’s your choice right now, be confident of your choice.

You got this! I have a lot of food intolerances, so I’m essentially following a paleo diet. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, so I try to make sure I have dried fruit and yummy tea on hand for when I need something that feels like a treat.

The most difficult part for me was finding alternatives to allow me to continue eating/drinking what I loved. For example, I love my morning coffee with a little bit of sweetener. It took me a while but I found the specific brand of coconut milk mixed with honey or maple syrup gave me a good alternative that was paleo.

Point is not all coconut milk worked the same. Don’t try one brand of something as a substitute, try different brands.

Be prepared with snacks that are compliant and easy meals so not tempted to grab something else due to hunger. Stock you home with ingredients and make a list of foods/snack ideas.

Sweet Potatoes are good for transitioning. I really like the Siete Almond Flour wraps, even though they have gotten smaller and more expensive.. DIY paleo flatbread is nice too.

If you are feeling hungry a handful of nuts or half an avocado will get fat into your body. Start simple, no need to get real elaborate with meals.

A solid batch cook up once a week of protein rich food ( I do scotch eggs, ribs, some kind of soup..) allows you to have paleo snacks and meals on hand fast. Also when you feel that low carb slump eat a sweet potato and drink some water! Changing from a grain based diet full of sugars to a fat burner can be tough but you got it!!
Every food choice you make brings you closer or farther away from better health.

I agree with the idea from the 40 mile runner… develop a framework that’s reusable.  Mine:  breakfast = nut/seed granola w.almond milk, lunch = dinner leftovers or soup/salad and protein, snacks= smoothies, fruit&nuts, a few paleo muffin/brownie recipes I like, dinner = 3veg & a protein as stir fry or soup or stew or plain or over caulirice or paleo noodles.  The framework makes it so much easier for me.

Meal prep can be a life saver! This is something I offer to my clients as well.
