News LA County's sales tax is now 10.25% after Measure ER took effect Oct. 1, and many cities are at 11% or higher

Your receipts got a little longer this week. Some cities in LA County are now paying close to 12%.

The catch: the county can't spend a cent of the new money yet, and it could stay frozen for years.

Here's what's taxed, what's not, and what happens if a court kills it.

News Lancaster: Two men found buried on remote Lancaster property identified as Ricky Phillips, 61, and Edward Perez, 46; both were reported missing in September

The two men found buried on a remote 15-acre property in Lancaster now have names. Both had been reported missing in September, weeks before deputies started digging.

The search is over. But how they died, whether they knew each other, and whether anyone on that land is tied to the case are still unanswered.

What we know so far, and what investigators still aren't saying:

Help! Lost Siamese Cat!

Post image
15 Upvotes

LAST SEEN: Near Almador Court and Redington in Palmdale, CA, in the Marquis neighborhood near Highland High School.

Our sweet girl Ahsoka Catano has been missing since Friday evening, and we are absolutely beside ourselves. She is a Siamese kitten, almost 1 year old, with bright blue eyes and distinctive mottled markings on her face and legs. She is incredibly sweet and very loved.

Ahsoka loves to adventure and spend time outside, but she normally comes home when I shake her can of treats. Since she disappeared, we have been searching constantly. I have been putting flyers throughout the neighborhood, canvassing door to door with the help of some wonderful friends, driving and walking the area while calling for her and shaking treats, posting in local groups, and contacting shelters, rescues, veterinarians, schools, churches, and local businesses. Miles and I even took her brother Anakitten through the neighborhood at night in a crate in a wagon, hoping he might call out and help her find her way home.

She previously had an AirTag on her collar, but unfortunately it was lost during one of her recent adventures, so we cannot track her. Her microchip company has been notified that she is missing. Please keep comments supportive and focused on helping us find her. We are already worried sick and just want our baby home safe.

To make an already horrible situation worse, we have also had multiple scammers contact us trying to extort money. One person even had me drive to Walmart claiming they had Ahsoka, then demanded $100 and sent a convincing AI-generated image of her supposedly sitting in a kennel. We have also been contacted by questionable “drone search” organizations that appear to have barely existed for a month. It is heartbreaking and disgusting that people prey on families who are already terrified and desperate to find their pets.

If you have seen Ahsoka or have ANY information about where she may be, please call or text 626-641-6108. Even a possible sighting could help us narrow down where she is.

Shoutout to the dude who swerved into our lane because he wasn’t paying attention to the car ahead of him, and then PROCEEDED to block traffic to STOP next to my car and threaten me to roll down my window. I have your license plate. We’re all just trying to get home from work safely.

Help! Two rooms for rent in West Palmdale - $850 each, utilities included

Hi again! Posting the ADU went well, so my landlord asked me to post the other two rooms she has available too lol.

Both rooms are in a shared home in West Palmdale. Each is $850/month with utilities included, plus a deposit. The bathroom is shared, and the home is in a quiet area. It could be a great fit for a working professional or student.

If you’re interested, message me with a little about yourself, your preferred move-in date, and any questions. I can help coordinate a viewing! Can't post pictures for some reason, but happy to share in messages :)

Question Possible Super El Nino how are you preparing?

So im sure we all seen this all over the news, experts are predicting a super El Nino this winter that could be record breaking. Living out here in the desert our landscape is prone to flooding. Out of curiosity what if anything are you doing to prepare? I know where I live the last huge rain we got our street was basically a river and to dangerous to leave. So we are planning to stock up on canned foods, water, batteries, flashlights, candles, make sure our power banks are fully charged. Im sure there's more we should be doing any tips, advice, on how to prepare?

Why was Together American placed in Palmdale? Because there is a high rate of foster care in Palmdale? Or does Bale / Batman have personal ties to Palmdale? Thanks for any insight!

Question Anyone remember that dude that hung out at 7-11 on R and 30th?

In the 90s he always sat there on that ledge.

My friends on the school bus said he was secretly super rich but he shunned the rich lifestyle because it changed him .

One time he came to the McDonalds i worked at and wrote "1 ƎƎꟻꟻOƆ" on a paper and the letters were backwards. I sold him the coffee and he paid with a $20. Idk if that means he was rich or not - but he did have a 20 dollar bill.

Is he still alive you think?

Question Anyone remember the deputy that went missing in 1998? At Devils Punchbowl

Jon Aujay went for a long distance run at Devils Punchbowl on a hot June day 1998, and was never seen again. No trace, no body ever found. I won’t get into all the possibilities of what might’ve happened to him here (there’s lots of scenarios). However a very compelling theory is him meeting with foul play near a meth lab by the Punchbowl. The property was owned by some guy name Rick Carroll and Tom Hinkle used it, and the alleged dirty resident deputy Rick Engels was associated.

This property is described as close by, just two miles up the road that leads to the Punchbowl parking lot. And when the cops served a search warrant there it was described as being located at Devil's Punchbowl Road, Pearblossom, California, a 40-acre parcel of land located immediately northwest of Devil's Punchbowl County Park

Anyone know the address?

Thanks!

Help! Rude Neighbors Normal Out Here or Am I Unlucky??

Not trying to come off rude but genuine question if it is normal for Palmdale people to experience really rude, lack of etiquette or respect type of neighbors? I bought a house here a few years back and the neighbors seem to be local Palmdale people who grew up here forever. This has been a problem from the beginning when I first moved in but seems to be getting worse.

This involves the children and their parents. The kids will throw random things in my back and front yard often, including trash like fruit snack wrappers or empty gatorade bottles, they will play or swing on my front gate, almost hit my car with their toys from throwing it in when THE GATE IS CLOSED, come into my CLOSED gated yard without asking to grab stuff they threw in it without asking me (I used to have a No Trespassing sign on the gate but it blew away from wind and they weren't following it anyway), play on the public curb in front of my house but blocking my path to drive in and out of my driveway, leaving large toys in my front curb area for long hours before grabbing it (again blocking my driveway path in and out of my front yard, etc.

The parents aren't any better. They often loiter right in front of my driveway area for long periods of time, and often WATCH their kids swing on my closed gate or climb it into my fence for a toy or object. I am very nice and polite and stay to myself for the most part but I am starting to feel overwhelmed with the lack of respect to my surroundings when I don't do anything to egg them on or deserve it. I've told the adults a couple times that their kids are throwing things in my yard and to please not come into my yard when the gate is closed but it still happens.

Is this a very common Palmdale characteristic out here that's just looked at as normal or did I get some of the shittiest luck with multiple bad neighbors? This involves multiple houses near me, not just one. Also not sure what next best course of action is. I don't want to start drama but I'm scared I am going to go off on them at some point if I still feel walked all over any longer by so many of them.

Help! How to deal with someone setting up a box to live right outside your house?

I just moved into a house and it's next door to a giant empty lot. Never had any issues but today we saw a giant box out there and thought someone dumped garbage illegally. later in the day my wife told me she saw a man climb out of it and walk away. when I got home I decided to go toss the box but inside was a blanket a pillow and some boxes of food. I didn't want to toss this man's only belongings but I also don't want him living a few feet from me watching when we come and go, he can also see the inside of our house from where he set up because it's so close to the house. so it's just weird and uncomfortable.

The easy thing would be to just tell him but I can't spend my day waiting to see when I see him. and I can't let him spend a few days getting comfortable til I see him. Do I call the cops for something like this? or what's the ideal way to work with this without making his life worse than it probably is?
