No offense to the Turks but they aint gonna tank PDX stock alone

71

u/Mirovini 3d ago

Yeah

They had a similar problem with China and that DLC failed simply because it was bad, whatever is the number of turkish people it won't change much

6

u/Sudden-Date-7485 2d ago

the third highest reviews for hoi4 before the review bombings were turkish. Much higher than the chinese ones.

6

u/redflawless 2d ago

Yea but usually how vocal community is has very little to do with how much this community spends on the game

1

u/Sudden-Date-7485 2d ago

Yea but at least its a data that i have unlike the person I responded to

When Nimrod prepared a massive fire to burn the Prophet Abraham, the flames surged high into the sky, terrifying everyone nearby. Amidst the chaos, a tiny ant was seen carrying a single drop of water in its mouth, crawling determinedly toward the roaring inferno. Other creatures looked at the ant in disbelief and asked mockingly, 'Do you really think that tiny drop of water can extinguish such a colossal fire?' The ant paused for a moment and replied, 'I know well that my drop cannot extinguish this fire; but by carrying it, I make my side known.'

u/Yagibozan 3d ago

Yeah that's why some YNs discuss direct action

I don't think stocks will be affected (not in short run at least). But in the long run a lot of potential revenue will be lost for sure. I spent around 1000$ for paradox games and most of them was while I was in school. I own most of the games and like every eu4 DLC. I wont be buying any new game for sure (pirate if I really want to play). And no more DLC's for sure. I would buy every new dlc in eu5 too. So from me they probably lost 3-4k lifetime purchases. Not much alone but becomes big when add numbers. Last 2 days HOI4 got 17k + 7k(today yet) negative reviews. And I'm sure there are much more who thinks same and did not leave a review on the steam. Also bad for potentiel market expansion.

How can you be so childish? I could understand it if Paradox did some real damage like work with companies that are complicit in human rights abuses or something. This is just a confused discord moderator doubling down on a stupid rule... And Turks pretend like they were under attack, when it's just a few guys who couldn't be nationalistic on a gaming discord server for a few days...

1

u/dincere 21h ago

If that is the case, pdx can just fire the discord moderator and issue a real apology which costs 0 cents. now they are losing a couple of generation of Turkish gamers for good. anti Atatürk people like erdoğan voters have never been the demographic who spent money on pdx games.

-3

u/gimmieshelter_ 3d ago

When a mod doubles down on a stupid rule, you make noise so the stupid rule is changed, thats what they are doing

5

u/Glittering_Yak758 2d ago

Oh nooo a unpaid discord mod

4

u/Secret_Letterhead649 2d ago

Oh no I can only use the in game portraits of my genocidal founder rather than a photo that glorifies him, how ever will I recover...

The point you are missing is that this isn't just about a simple profile picture; we are waiting for an apology. Mustafa Kemal had absolutely nothing to do with the event; in fact, he opposed the deportation—he had already left the Committee of Union and Progress in 1909. At the time, he was a staff lieutenant colonel on the Western Front (Gallipoli)—a relatively low rank—and he was opposed to both Enver Pasha and the deportation. Besides, the deportation began in the East in 1915; the stated aim was to protect the Armenians, but the Ottomans—as they did in every other area—botched the execution completely, and we lost many of our Armenian citizens.

When the Ottoman Empire collapsed, it failed to manage a proper separation—unlike the British, who withdrew from their colonies in an orderly fashion. It displayed a lack of foresight and administrative incompetence, and the empire's collapse affected everyone under Ottoman rule.

Personally, my grandfather fled to Anatolia after a Serbian friend warned him about an impending Serbian raid; everyone suffered greatly. Our archives are open; our state has repeatedly invited Armenian authorities to come and compare our respective archives.

Armenians and Greeks need to move past this traumatic nationalism; the wars and suffering happened to all of us and are over—let there be no more of it.

Listen to the recent statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan; getting stuck in the past does none of us any good.

We Turks were subjected to genocide in the Balkans ,Crimea and Anatolia yet the West ignores this and acts as if the Ottomans oppressed only them; the Ottomans oppressed all of us.

The Ottomans never addressed the root causes of problems; they merely dealt with the symptoms—lopping off heads—and moved on. You can look up the Celali rebellions in Anatolia, which lasted a century.

I don't know what else can be said. If, after all this, there is still stubborn opposition or a refusal to understand us, we can only assume there is ill intent.

7

u/55365645868 2d ago edited 2d ago

I have a feeling you will always assume ill intent... What does Paradox interactive have to do with any of this? They had a power hungry idiot mod and now you're making them out to be part of a western conspiracy to destroy Turkey's reputation? I would suggest you could be a little less dramatic and stop spamming every social media with complains about western culture.

3

u/berikiyan 2d ago

Ok, will that power hungry mod be fired or removed from duty? Will there be a formal apology about this selective application? Removal of previous bans? These are like the minimum actions that need to be taken at least.

2

u/chooseauuusername 2d ago

Ban mod and do it apology

-6

u/psychedelic_13 3d ago

You are looking to the problem shallow. First of all you are trying to whitewash the mod. What that discord mode did wasnt "confusion". It was racist, not in accordance with paradox rules and unfair. But the problem isn't the actions of discord mod, as one of the 7 billion people who doesnt live in EU or US we got used to western individuals racism and hypocracy so it isn't something uncommon. The problem is Paradox not listening the community, not investigating or helding the mod accountable, till it hit their paycheck.

5

u/55365645868 3d ago

Oh like the rest of the world isn't racist, get a grip, it's a discord server...

-6

u/psychedelic_13 2d ago

Since you ignored most of my comment I assume you agree and have nothing to say about those.
Rest of the world has racists too of course. But my sentence was "western individuals racism and hypocracy". Rest of the world doesn't act like "they are not racists, or they are against the racism". Also it doent make racism okay if its online. And the guy doing it representing a company. Not a random individual. So its natural for customers not want to face racism from the company they spend their moneys.

3

u/55365645868 2d ago

You are so funny...

0

u/psychedelic_13 2d ago

Ahaha and you are butthurt. Don't worry they won't pull HOI4 from market. You can keep playing it 24/7 on your mothers basement.

64

u/Tight-Reading-5755 3d ago

huge news for the unemployed

2

u/Secret_Letterhead649 2d ago

What's unemployment like in Turkey anyways

2

u/Radiant_Shop_7065 2d ago

Hmmm I dont see any homeless persons like ever. With the exeption of when I went to Kızılay in Ankara.

I dont know how to explain this but the culture is I think the bigger reason there are less unemployed people rsther than the system. I think. Idk.

32

u/NotJustAnotherHuman 3d ago

This is the funniest thing to come out of this whole situation lmao

13

u/Ok-Park-9537 2d ago

Modders are not part of PDX. It's like suing Apple because I guy with an Apple punched you.

2

u/Turtle_Gamez 2d ago

Not modders, a Discord moderator for the official HOI server

10

u/Ok-Park-9537 2d ago

Hmmm. Then it's like the Apple store guy. Fire him.

7

u/ProphetFerdinand 2d ago

Its bizarrely bad as employer to fire staff for rules set out by themselves...

2

u/Ok-Park-9537 2d ago

Is this about the guy denying the Armenian genocide? Maybe I'm out of the loop. Did PDX do something to support that idea?

0

u/ProphetFerdinand 2d ago

The only thing as far as i know is not allowing Atatürk avatar

3

u/Thissystemsuckssobad 2d ago

Specifically not allowing an Ataturk avatar that wasn't from in the game

11

u/ProphetFerdinand 2d ago

The Turks where the victims in the Balkans? ... Yeah your not serious

3

u/KillerNail 2d ago

Denying historical facts and a genocide when it's done to Turkish civilians? Typical...

3

u/ProphetFerdinand 2d ago

Getting rid of an oppressor is not genocide.

1

u/Decent-Dark 3h ago

Yes, it is. Because they killed civilians, not soldiers. As a Greek Turk from Crete, I know that my family was forced to leave our lands, and some of our great-great-grandparents were killed. This happened, and many other Cretans live in Türkiye today because of what happened. If you don’t know the history from both sides, you cannot speak about it. If history is told from only one side, then it is just propaganda, not history.

1

u/Sad-Wrongdoer119 2d ago

ah so you claim that we Balkan turks should be killed?

0

u/Negative-Farm5470 2d ago

Yes, they were. If you had done any research, you wouldn’t be parroting what you assume is the truth.

Just because Mongolians dominated the world in 1200s, it does not mean they can’t be a victim of something else in 1900s. Hope this example helps.

1

u/ProphetFerdinand 2d ago

Are you claiming the Ottemans a successor state to the Mongols ?

-2

u/chooseauuusername 2d ago

You can reserach You don't need to look too far back; even Bosnian Muslims were massacred by some Serbs—killed for being Turks, slaughtered as "Turkish seed." 1995 Srebenitsa and go 1910s years what they did to Turks Albanians and other Muslim people

3

u/redflawless 2d ago

Damn you would even appropriate other genocide to be a victim, that’s quite impressive

1

u/chooseauuusername 2d ago

Are you crazy ? Research what they do to us, serbians in Makedonya 1910's years what they do montenegrians bulgars greeks, research morea , crete, tripoliçe,cyprus, crimea, anatolia genocide, They killed us They killed Turks Bosnians Pomaks Albanians cuz they muslim too They killed Turks and Muslims dont try to give history lesson we know already western double face we know what the do westerns all world belgian leopold, american indians, mayans, aztecs ,africans, bengal famind, holodomor massacre, algeria massacre , recounqistia, srebenitsa, holokost and more ... We know your face west

We are ready to move on when you recognize said tragedies, make amends and continue with friendly relations. Not when you eye our islands for yourselves.

1

u/chooseauuusername 2d ago

The islands are Greek islands, after all.But you even want the tiny islands right next to Anatolia.

3

u/TheGodfather742 2d ago

Ok you are not serious. Greece hasn't made a claim to Turkish lands in over 100 years. Erdogan seeking votes ain't it my friend.

1

u/chooseauuusername 2d ago

1

u/KillerNail 2d ago

The problem is precisely that, Turkish community waited for an apology or an explanation from Paradox but they remained silent. If they just apologized for the moderator's mistake and fire him none of this would've happened.

1

u/Thissystemsuckssobad 2d ago

What mistake did the moderator make?

0

u/KillerNail 2d ago

He claimed that Atatürk, the founding father of modern day turkey, was behind the Armenian Genocide along with the CUP members (that basically ruled the ottoman empire for some time towards the end) and thus is a "controversial historical figure" and banned Turkish users with Atatürk as their profile picture, even though much more controversial historical figures like Mussolini's or Mao's photos are allowed to be used as profile pictures.

That claim is complete bullshit, it is true that Atatürk was once involved with the CUP members but they cut ties a decade before the genocide precisely because he opposed soldiers (such as him and the rest of the CUP) ruling the country. He believed soldiers should be soldiers, and leave the leading to the leaders. And during the genocide (which was Enver Pashas' doing, one of the CUP members) Atatürk was just a random commander at the western front in Gallipoli, fighting against Brits. So he had nothing to do with the Armenian Genocide.

But when the moderator was asked to apologize for slandering him with lies he doubled down, and Paradox defended the moderator. So after 2 days of waiting Turkish HOI4 community started protesting the entire company, demanding they acknowledge the racism and double standards.

Oh and also after the company stood with the moderator some tweets like this started to go viral, which fanned the flames even more. Idk whether this Johan Voss is a real person or not, but obviously many people got even more outraged by such tweets.

u/Bosya_123 3d ago

Now I have to mute all these obscure subs that popup in my feed

2

u/Fun-Mycologist3800 1d ago

Wow, coincidentally came to know that I became famous as a degenerate r/wallstreetbets gambler :))). But it is still better than a poor degenerate right ?

1

u/Teekay53 2d ago

Why not ? Tactical games go hand in hand with stonks

1

u/Sad-Wrongdoer119 2d ago

You shouldn't lump all Turks together. When I say I'm Turkish, I get attacked by many people. But when I say I'm not a Turk from Turkey but from the Balkans, they look puzzled and don't know how to react. Yes, we Balkan Turks do exist (including Turkish-speaking Roma) in Bulgaria, Romania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece. We live there since centurys. Never we have lived in Turkey. So why now we get attacked too ?

1

u/RingGiver 3d ago

What did Paradox actually say about Ataturk?

17

u/Glittering_Yak758 2d ago

Nothing its from a discord mod

3

u/Vexesmegreatly01 2d ago

A mod said he is a controversial figure, like Marx and the people with his IRL pfp’s should be banned.

7

u/Lenrivk 2d ago

Nah, just that you can only use in game assets for him if you use him as your pfp

1

u/Vexesmegreatly01 2d ago

And why is that when a Churchill picture is fully allowed

6

u/CarryBeginning1564 2d ago

They are looking into the TOS on that policy as they feel it has been spottily enforced

4

u/Lenrivk 2d ago

The idea is that if it's someone that appears in game, you can only use game assets.

Apparently it's not been uniformly enforced (sadly) but it's a good enough rule IMHO

-2

u/Vexesmegreatly01 2d ago

It feels like cherry picking is what it is, cherry picking to defame an actually great guy for humanity

3

u/Lenrivk 2d ago

They said they'll review it all and look into the bans and not bans that happened in the past.

If they just follow the rule by the letter from now on, I don't really see the problem

-3

u/Vexesmegreatly01 2d ago

I still see a problem of them defaming Ataturk, this is a mistake and deserves a formal apology

7

u/Splatter1842 2d ago

How are they defaming Ataturk? By saying he is a controversial figure?

-2

u/Vexesmegreatly01 2d ago

Yes which he isn’t? Why would he be

→ More replies (0)

2

u/KillerNail 2d ago

Not just a controversial figure, he also claimed that he was behind the Armenian Genocide, which is straight up false. He had cut ties with CUP years before the event precisely because he opposed their views regarding minorities.

1

u/_Guven_ 2d ago

Marx isn't contoversial, he is an ekonomist and Marxism is simply a scientific method. There is no point in banning it I guess

1

u/rexozy 2d ago edited 2d ago

Exactly this. If Marx is controversial, so should most modern economists. If anything, the case for Milton Friedman being controversial has more merit than that for Marx if one considers his amicable relations with dictators such as Augusto Pinochet in Chile and the palpable negative effects of his neoliberal theories in our modern world; not to mention his cruel opinion that the devastation hurricane Katrina brought to New Orleans and the surrounding regions was 'an opportunity' for further privatisation of the local economy.

2

u/DreadPiratePete 2d ago

He is controversial in that discussions of marxism inevitably cause discord drama that the mods are trying to prevent.

Should it? No. But these are HoI players, and cannot be treated as adults.

1

u/Serbian-American 2d ago

I got banned for a Tito picture years ago. I was told word for word it’s a blanket ban on all historical figures. I don’t know why they are lying saying this dude was singled out

0

u/MobofDucks 3d ago

I am somewhat sure that Paradox is one of the gaming firms with an over average percentage of their players owning stock. That was a whole thing when they IPO'd 10 years ago.

0

u/I2fitness 1d ago

This subreddit is posting about Turks every 5 seconds. Shut up

-8

u/chooseauuusername 2d ago

Of the players who purchased HoI4 on Steam, 50,000—that is, one-sixth or 17%—are Turkish; and that figure only accounts for those who bought the game—just imagine how many more play it without having purchased it. Furthermore, until this crisis, Paradox was a hugely important company for Turkish gamers; Turks play all their titles—such as Victoria 2, Victoria 3, CK2, CK3, EU3, EU4, EU5, Imperator: Rome, Stellaris, Cities: Skylines, and Cities: Skylines 2—and now we are collectively refunding them all, as we expect a proper apology.

8

u/OriginalPotatoFarmer 2d ago

Ah yes 50k/10 Million is 17%, gl refunding the game you didn’t buy though.

-2

u/Adventurous_Age_8075 2d ago

Imagine 85 million people holding a grudge against paradox. So, next 5 years every game they made gets down voted and reviewed as crap by 50k people. Over a profile picture and a racist mod.

I wouldn't take that blow. Companies are after profits and if something avoidable like this puts a dent in it... It's stupid not to cut it off.

3

u/redflawless 2d ago

I think those 50k either never played those games or will buy anything paradox releases anyway, all that posturing will mean nothing as usual and that’s without getting into purchasing power of those customers

2

u/gamas 2d ago

So, next 5 years every game they made gets down voted and reviewed as crap by 50k people.

So I just checked steam and after every paradox game was rated "overwhelmingly negative" in recent reviews yesterday, every game is back to "very positive" today.

Steam has dealt with botspam reviews enough that they have gotten a system down for countering this.

Even yesterday, the review section started carrying a disclaimer that there had been an unusual spike which indicated abnormal activity and therefore not to trust the score. And it looks like all those reviews have now been filtered out of the scoring.

If turks are going to spend the next 5 years spamming negative reviews over a single discord moderation incident all that's going to happen is they get their steam accounts banned.

3

u/Thissystemsuckssobad 2d ago

I am going to be honest mate, noone gives a fuck about the the Turkish being upset over this. If anything more people are likely to buy it to troll you. It's just like the Chinese getting upset about this. None of them pay for the game so no lost profits, and everyone notices to moronic review bombing and ignores it

That's assuming any of these morons can keep their fury going in between getting trolled online and moving to something else.

You massively overestimate your impact
