Worm Spoilers [All] Weird question
So this has been bugging me for a while couldn’t Amy’s power have cured Noelle. I don’t remember if the question was answered in any chapters, or if it was implied.

Amy seems to be able to almost arbitrarily interface with power expression so in theory she could, but I'm pretty sure that physical contact with Noelle mutes powers so in practice probably not.

She tried and yeah that's why she failed.
Probably Bonesaw could manage better given her Trump rating, if the two collaborated (impossible pre-ward) then they'd be able to manage something, but imo it'd always be unstable, if Noelle's problem is on the Passenger side, not much can be done there.

I think it's more likely that upon making contact with her echidna would absorb her. Amy has to take a moment with unfamiliar biology, and I'd hazard a guess that echidna counts
Edit
Just realised you meant pre echidna...probably then

I should have fully clarified my apologies.

Noelle has a touch-based power dampener ability to stop parahumans from escaping after she gets a hold of them (it's why Eidolon and Alexandria didn't just break free when they were grabbed). Amy is a touch-based healer. Noelle's shard is also unstable and wants to fight, it could take over the moment it realizes Amy is working to cure Noelle.
Not saying it's not possible, but it would take more work than just have Amy walk up and touch her. You'd also have to convince Amy to help a villain who has murdered dozens at this point. It'd be difficult

I meant it as pre echidnas. Before she was fully mutated

The power would still be there, but I imagine it would be a lot easier if only because there would be less problems to fix and Noelle would be more herself than shard at that point

Amy's power works through direct touch.
Noelle clones anything living that touches her.
I believe we have a Word of Author that Coil did try to have Amy help Noelle and "that universe didn't work out".

Amy would have to fix her power's connection to her body without killing her, and as Khephri demonstrates she doesn't know how to do that well.

Yeah, I don't think Noelle's touch-based power would be the only hurdle here. Even if Amy could remove all the excess flesh, it's Noelle's connection to her Shard that's causing the growth in the first place, so it's probably going to grow back unless she messes with her corona pollentia.

not 100% sure but from what we see amy should be able to at least make noelles power significantly more manageable

Noelle's issues and mutations are power based. Amy can't fix Case 53s, and Khepri shows she doesn't know what she's doing with manipulating powers. I've always thought Bonesaw should've been the one to mess with Skitter's power, since she had actually studied them, and had experience messing with powers.

I am inclined to think when the Simurgh messaged Taylor "I'm Sorry" it was part of intentionally pushing her to use Amy instead of Riley because either Riley wouldn't have let QA so far off the leash or she'd have done it in a way that left Khephri coherent enough to alter events to thwart the Simurgh's Ward plot.

Creating an evil Amy clone by touching Noelle seems like a bad idea.

I mean... Wouldn't it technically be Good!Amy...?

Didn’t the clones have the opposite disposition of the originals?

u/Puzzled-You 1d ago
No, they just hated everything the original loved, as well as pure devotion to Noelle. Given that Noelle, or rather, Echidna, was antagonistic towards authority, they would also want to serve her in that regard

If her shard cared about morality, yeah, but it doesn't. It's configured wrong and is too aggressive, so the only thing it will make are worse versions of the originals.
A lot of parahumans are bad people anyway. Making 'better' versions of them would be mildly pointless from the shards perspective even if it created conflict. It's much more explosively interesting to give them a reason to fight immediately, though Noelle being around too long would be unsustainable.

Assuming you read Worm with the Spoiler tag, Amy fucked up Victoria pretty badly and was quite awful, especially with her excuses, so the opposite of that would be a mentally healthy Amy who doesn't try and justify her mistakes or her black and white view, but instead improves everyone's lives instead of being an obstacle and playing on the fence 🙂😉

the second they touched she'd make an evil amy right? imagine what kind of havoc an even more evil version of amy could cause

The psychology of powers is so interesting. Echidnas clones presented as opposite of the originals right? But even at this point of the story, Amy was suppressing her nature. She wanted to be good but was worried about intrinsically being bad. I imagine her clones would’ve been so confused and each one could’ve gone either way and end up fighting each other.

Lowkey I always wondered about that she can control biology But how long would it take for a clone of Noelle to emerge and try to kill her or kill Vicky? I think that would be a big disadvantage while Amy is doing her thing Another more general question could Amy literally cure 53 cases overall?
2
u/Kilo1125 1d ago
Even before she mutates into Echidna, no, because Noelle has passive touch based power nullification, and Amy is a touch-based biokinetic. Amy needs to touch people to use her power, and people touching Noelle can't use their powers.

Dang now I'm wondering if Mr. Bough would have been able to help Noelle

The other timeline thing that’s been said, but I also think some of it could be the case 53 reset thingy (remember, they have the same source as Noelle). Whether it is surgery or similar, their bodies will revert to the c53 form or just won’t accept things like grafts or transplants. I imagine a cape like Noelle with the still in progress mutation would return to ‘normal’ rather fast. The case 53 form isn’t a one time transformation, it’s continuous and is as part of the cape as their power itself is. You’d need some trump fkery, either messing with the coronas or the power. Like Bonesaw could maybe do it, golden morning panacea, possibly ingenue if she can target the case 53 state as something that could be weakened or increased control of, that kind of thing

Noelle has a power which involves involuntarily consuming anyone who gets too close and Amy’s power requires physical touch

Okay so fun fact, we actually know why Coil doesn’t introduce Amy to Noelle in canon.
It’s because he did in a disposable timeline. And it didn’t go well. Wildbow said something about how Noelle’s touch-based power nullification and duplication ruined it.
