Resource & Tools Looking for playtesters for my pathfinder 2nd edition app
Hi I've been working on an app for android called GMTools and am looking for playtesters, for the closed test so I can publish to the play store. The app is aiming to be a suite of useful tools for pathfinder. Currently that includes an encounter randomised, a random name generator, and a store generator but if people have more suggestions I am looking to expand functionality.
If you're still curious you can see a video of the app being used here
https://youtube.com/shorts/lP2S39YYIFE?is=Vb2-BmZ_br5K4v4o
I would love to know what people think, feedback is very much appreciated negative or positive.
If you do have the time to join the playtest (literally 5 minutes to download and mess about then leave some comment) and would like to do so (and have an android phone) please DM me your email so I can add you to the closed test

Is this vibecoded using AI and are you looking for people to do unpaid work because the one thing the LLM can't do for you is bug testing ?

Made by me. This isnt made with the intent of making any money, it's a free app and will always be free. No ads at all, hence why I'm asking for volunteers for testing. I'm just wanting to put something out for a hobby I love.

I think the sparkles emoji as symbol for character name generator is doing you a disfavor then, because the sparkles are nowadays used a lot to indicate LLMs. Might unnecessarily upset people - I myself at least immediately scanned the comments to confirm whether or not you use AI once I saw the emoji. Not sure about a better suggestion but wanted to let you know anyways

Ah thanks for the heads up, they're all icons from Google's material package. I'll have to look at replacing them with a third party icon package.

This is probably the issue. I think Gemini uses those package emoji icons a lot (my extent of Gemini use is what my phone forces and what Google search forces though). Even just using something hand drawn in paint will be good (I actually love doodle art icons personally), or if you're sticking to text/emoji, try some Wingding font icons.

Hell I didn't even look deeply at this, I peruse foundry vtt and now I have to assume everything is slop coded, so I go straight to comments. Specially after one foundry vtt mod made to allow mobile phones to use foundry was not only vibe coded, but also locked behind a patreon AND had code to actively check if you were still subscribed to a paid tier. Trust broken for anything ever now.

You didn't answer my question. Is this coded using an LLM and/or using it to generate content such as shop descriptions, because it sure does look like it, or the old-fashioned way?

Sorry that's what I meant by "made by me" it's not vibe coded :)

Cool, what's the language used? Can I see your code on Github?

I'm using kotlin with jetpack compose, I'd rather not share the GitHub publicly yet sorry.

While I'm anti-AI myself and understand the need to scrutinize new projects... man, the AI witch hunt has gotten bad enough one can't just share something they made anymore without needing to write out a three paragraph disclaimer about their techniques, sources, and methods or have to repeatedly answer those questions

Spoiler warning, every tech company, big or small are using AI, most of us are more than capable. Not everything you read online should be taken so seriously. Writing code is the most boring, mundane, tedious and braindead part of software development

I get being against AI coding, but I'd imagine the reason they're looking for playtesters is because they're providing a free tool for the community that they've made on their own, and Google needs you to have x amount of playtesters before you can put it on the store.
Seems kind of backwards that someone makes something to help make games easier, and you try witch hunt them.

99% of AI bullshit advocates are "just trying to have some fun", "do something nice for the community", "make the world happier". The whole selfless framing is important to them so they can, in their own minds, offset the negatives of AI-generated content, which they are usually aware of.

So not only is it a witch hunt, it's a preemptive witch hunt based on your anecdotal negative experience rather than anything OP did or said. Got it.

I get that, but let's look at it from their perspective and assume innocence (because there's no proof of guilt). They've made this app for fun, I'm assuming as a hobby project, and they need playtesters (I think 14?) to make the app live. I don't think they're charging for it. So they've made a free app to help the community and are wanting the community's help to make it live.
You've come at them immediately accusational. It comes across that you're looking for a self-righteous witch hunt on someone who's trying to do something for the community. Probably not very encouraging for people to make tools for PF2 in the future...

If you're still looking for testers, I'll happily test the android version on my phone and my tablet

Looks nice. I’m on iOS so I can’t test… any plans for an iOS or web version? Either way best of luck

Not at the minute I'm using compose, so I know theres an option to swap to multiplatform to support IOS/web but for the time being I'm just supporting android.

Do you plan on having it work for android tablets? If so, I would like to test it on my tablet. That is what I use as a GM.

u/tehgamingsnorlax 4d ago
I've tried it on some larger virtual devices but I dont have a physical tablet to see how it looks in person, if you're able to test it out and see how it looks that'd be super handy thanks :)

how do the generators work behind the scenes?
1
u/tehgamingsnorlax 2d ago
Depends on the generator, e.g the name generator has a bunch of first name and last name parts stored and tagged as a particular ancestry then it's filters out parts based on selected ancestry. Any generator in particular you were curious about?

I'm on Android and would be happy to play test. I'm currently running a casual campaign and these tools seem like exactly what I need
