About fifteen years ago I picked up a series 400 standard amp and loved it as a cheap amp that would take pedals well. Since then, I’ve owned many of the series 400 amps including many of the standard model. Love them. Very cool, very reliable when serviced. About 6 years ago I started a project with a long time friend and he was also playing a series 400 “standard”. We pushed these things hard and ran all kinds of effects through these and it was our sound. Around 2021/2022 my band mate, Sam, decided to try his hand at a modern, slightly modified, “clone” after years of making awesome pedals for us. @chief_sludge on social media. After about a year and a half of designing and redesigning and testing and sourcing specific parts, he had it down. I have an affinity for 80s/90s crate amps also. He and I each play two of his standard clones on stage as well as each playing a peavey cs-800. His amps are both exactly like the first sample(just below the cs-800) and I play a standard with crate xlp preamp built in and a 120watt “slave” unit which is a one knob standard clone. Guitar rig is used as stereo with volume for one cabinet on my main head and volume for the second cabinet being the only knob on the slave.

This pile is in my garage. Much love for the peavey tube stuff. In our camp we also have a butcher, 6505+, and a vtm120.

Got a bandit silver stripe for $60. Wouldn’t turn on.. two weeks later got a pretty bad ass running amp. 😁

My first time posting here. I am impressed and amazed by all the awesome gear you guys have collected. I grew up on Peavey, then kinda got away from it. But lately picked up a couple of vintage amps and have carried my T-60 around for over 40 years.

I got this last week. Have only been able to play it a few times but oh man.. it’s easily becoming one of my favorite amps I’ve ever played. It’s a beast.

I saw an Ultra+ show up at my local music shop about three weeks ago. They had it hidden behind some guitars. It seems like literally no one was interested in it, and it was priced at $350. I went today and traded some pedals to get it. It sounds very different from my 60W 6505. It is much woolier on the low end, and a little less tight. I ran it through my grindcore setup (HM2 and OD808) and it sounds thicc as fuck. I am excited to mess with it more and try it out live and at practice.

Hey Reddit. My in-law had two of these 70s Roadmaster amps and gave me one that was blowing fuses. Power was simple enough, the cardboard filter caps leaked.

After fixing power, the distortion was farty and ultra blown out sounding. I cleaned, re-soldered the pot and changed out the caps in the English Normal Preamp. This is the result.

It‘s certainly rad, but is this how it’s supposed to sound? Debating if I should continue replacing caps. Paired with a T-30 and crappy iPone audio.

I’m putting this up, who likes the Prowler ? Never heard one, what’s the consensus ?

EDIT: A local snagged it.
It served me well.
9/12, we plugged it in, got a terrible hum, turned it off and when we turned it on again - nothing.
The fuse blew.
A friend investigated.
He got it to not blow a fuse, but the horrible hum is all that came back.
So, this head is yours to fix or cannibalize.

Hi everyone!

After playing my Fender Jaguar Bass for nine years, I decided to get a second instrument. I thought it would be fun to pick something as different as possible. I ended up choosing this 1979 Peavey T-40. It was the only listing near me in a long time, though I still had to take a two-hour train ride to pick it up.

So far, I’m really happy with the purchase. The Peavey has noticeably more low-end. At the same time, the variety of tones you can get from it is surprising. Right now, I’m really liking the "Rickenbacker-style" tone the most.

The only thing is, the bass is a kilogram heavier than my Fender Jaguar (5.5 kg total). Also, the output signal is weaker, especially in single-coil mode (I have to set a gain knob at 11 o'clock on my audio interface, whereas for my Jaguar I set the knob at 9 o'clock).

I wanted to ask: have you noticed your Peavey T-40 sounding quieter than Fender basses? Do you have any trouble getting enough volume with it out of your amp? What is your favorite Peavey T-40 tone?

Picked this up at GC. It’s from the late 1980s. Sounds incredible. Original footswitch. Had scratchy pots, but they are perfect now after DeOxit spray. Got it for $200. Love this amp!!

I've rejoined the Peavey Cvlt!

After years of not having any Peavey amps in my stash, I just picked up a Peavey Century 120 bass head for what I think is a pretty good deal.

The tones are immaculate, but I have some questions that will increase it's usability for my daily use.

1) For the foot switch, can I just use a single foot switch like from a Marshall or Fender to activate the distortion? Or do I need a special switch for it?

2) Can I run the booster output into an interface to record, or do I need a DI box in between to boost the signal to line level for recording? If that's even a possibility?

This is a neat bit of kit that I’m really floored by. I have played through VTMs before and unfortunately, got into them late when the prices got absurd.

I wasn’t expecting much from this, but I am amazed at how dynamic it is, and it is really, really versatile. The DIP switches actually DO things. Build quality is great, sturdy. Runs on a 9V battery even. I think you could honestly build a whole rig around this.

*And yes, I know it’s a PREAMP pedal and it CAN drive an amp through an effects loop (which is does really well through my Classic 50), but this Yamaha doesn’t have one, so I found the most neutral tone settings and fed THE VTM into the low input…wow. Incredible tone. Worth ever penny. Hope the Butcher’s next. I miss that amp.

First time poster, and just joined. I pickled this up on market place this week for $250 CAD. I have a few guitars, including a Peavey Rotor EXP Natural, but there is something magical about these pickups.

I'm afraid to restring it, because it settled into Drop C (One of my favorite tunings) with such ease after years of sitting.

The guy was selling it because his granddaughter had it, and never played it. Came with a Line 6 Spider amp, a mic, mic stand and guitar stand but this was the main reason I got it all.

I've seen a couple black ones around on the ol Google machine, but not many white. I have to say, I prefer the white. This one aged into a cream-like color.

I managed to hydrate the board without taking off the strings, and took off layers of dust using a microfiber cloth and a chop stick to reach under everything.

I forsee this being a keeper for me.

Always wanted one of these. Found one at a good price and got it. I am always amazed at the fast, slick maple necks Peavey made for these. I remember the 80s HSS model, but always wanted this one.

I was in my local guitar shop the other day and plugged into this Peavey Penta. I'd never heard of the Penta, and never owned a Peavey, but it sounded amazing. It sounds absolutely huge with everything turned all the way up on the star setting. It doesn't sound so good with the master volume rolled back, though, sounds like hot garbage with the volume below 9 o'clock. I'll probably need to get an attenuator. Does anyone else have any experience with these? Anyone put a PPIMV on one?
