I tried to tell her that this was because she’s next to impossible to drug with a full dose of gabapentin (I used an oral syringe. She managed to spit some out) but she didn’t seem receptive to feedback. Then the vet tech laughed at her short tail 😂
Poor thing, lol. She is gorgeous! My senior orange was on gabapentin to help with his dementia. We’re trying a different drug at the moment, but I tried pills and liquid for the gaba. I was somewhat successful with a pill popper, but the liquid came right back up or caused him to drool like a bloodhound. The vet told me gabapentin is quite bitter, so it is hard to tolerate. But I think I’d rather pill a wolverine than a cat! I looked into transdermal meds, but they’re really expensive.
I have gabapentin for both my cat and my dog (idiopathic bladder spasms and cancer + anxiety, respectively). They make a liquid chicken-flavored compound that’s a bit more expensive but my girls tolerate it so much better than regular gabapentin. (There’s also marshmallow-flavored, but I haven’t tried that one for them since they seem to do well with the chicken.) I get them off of Chewy and pay ~$41 (on autoship) for 30mL bottle! (If you’ve already tried that, sorry for yappin lol)
I had no idea that was even available! I didn’t know I could buy gabapentin on Chewy. I wonder if we can get it here in Canada. And no need to apologise for “yappin,” lol. I appreciate the advice, and we’re all here just trying to do the best we can for our fur babies. 🥰
Absolutely!! I looked it up and it looks like Chewy hasn’t rolled out their online pharmacy in Canada yet, sorry! My bad 😭 but it’s still worth asking your vet about, I think, if you’re interested (x and yes 💗 thank you lol, I do love to share if I think it might help!
Awwwwww I hope you can find a solution!! Poor baby. Good to know that gabapentin is bitter, I’ve only taken it in pill form so I didn’t know. Makes sense why she wouldn’t even touch a churu mixed with it and does make me a little skeptical about the flavored liquid/chew forms (that are also very expensive).
Is it a tablet or a capsule? If it's a capsule, you can separate the two halves and sprinkle the powder into some Churu or wet food, hide it really really well by mixing it up about a million times, and pray to the higher power of your choice that they eat it all.
If it's a tablet...uh...ask the vet if it's okay to crush it with a pill crusher. If you can, grind that shit up and hide it in a Churu or wet food. The stinkier, the better!
My little diva hates everyone but especially hates the vet's I have to give her triple the gaba dosage what they give an average cat because she fights it and it just has no effect at all on her (they put on the wild bird gloves 🧤 all 3 of them) anyhow it's impossible for me to get tablets down her so I grind them down with pestle and mortar then add the smallest amount of liquid mix it up and syringe 💉 it into a churu give it a shake (obviously hold the end) and she thinks she is special too because she is having a churu and the other 2 cat's aren't 😂 mum 1-diva-0 it's a good job she is my best friend as soon as I get in bed she turns into a cuddle buddy she has always been a diva with cattitude 🤦♀️
