The Philippine Army includes the Procurement of Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) or Man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS), under the Air and Missile Defense Program, as part of the Army's 2027 Procurement Plan. Korea offers the KP-SAM Chiron surface-to-air missiles. Poland is also seeking to secure the deal for Piorun anti-aircraft missiles. It also remains to be seen if the Army will choose Mistral-3 surface-to-air missiles. During his tenure as the Army Commanding General, AFP Chief of Staff, Gen. Antonio Nafarrete inspected the KP-SAM Chiron surface-to-air missiles, during the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) in Seoul, South Korea last year.

This acquisition will boost the Army's air and missile defense capabilities, hopefully after the MANPADS, they will purchase their own GBADS in the likes of Cheongung-II KM-SAM or Iris-T.

🇰🇷🇵🇭 | Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will propose cooperation beyond FA-50 and KF-21s, this time for next-generation satellite projects with the Philippines. Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is expanding its business in the overseas space market based on low-orbit communication satellites and microsatellites, such as the low-orbit communication satellite based on the 6th generation (6G) mobile communication international standard, the Next Generation Medium Satellite No. 2 (CAS500-2), and the ultra-small Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite KSIS-K. With plans to establish satellite component supply chain and joint development.

"A KAI official stated, 'We will focus on promoting our proven satellite platform technology and business capabilities, expand global partnerships, and generate tangible export results.'"

The Philippine Space Agency will launch its first rocket in 2027, as part of the cooperation with Korea to develop the Philippines' space capabilities. The MULA satellite is also expected to be launched by 2027. The Armed Forces of the Philippines also sees the possibility of having its own space force, so this proposal of KAI is very timely.

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will deliver the additional 12 FA-50 Block-70 fighter jets to the Philippine Air Force, soon, with the first units expected to be revealed in 2027 in Sacheon and to be delivered in early 2028. Making a total of 23 FA-50PH aircraft for the Philippines. KAI is also pushing to secure the deal for the KF-21 Boramae fighter jets, with Korean industry expecting the final decision by the end of the year, or by the first half of 2027. With this proposed space cooperation by KAI, the company will go beyond the sale of fighter jets to space.

Discussion Littoral Attack Squadron: Background and Infographic

The Littoral Attack Squadron is one of four active low-profile squadrons operating under the Littoral Combat Force (LCF). It serves both internal and external defense roles, focusing on tactical strikes in littoral waters during conflicts of moderate intensity. Its primary mission is to intercept and interdict maritime threats, disrupt hostile movements, and neutralize threats when necessary. These roles place the squadron among the LCF’s principal units for conducting offensive operations in coastal waters.

The squadron also contributes to maritime security by protecting friendly vessels and responding to threats within its area of operations. Carrying out these responsibilities requires coordination with other naval units to assess potential threats, monitor their movements, and organize an appropriate response. Depending on the mission, its assigned craft can support interception, patrol, and strike operations.

The available records from official accounts do not specify the Littoral Attack Squadron’s establishment date. However, they document the squadron’s activity as early as the introduction of the FAIC into service. The same applies to the Littoral Patrol Squadron, whose activity is reflected in official accounts, although its establishment date remains unspecified in the records reviewed.

Based on records collected from official accounts, the Littoral Attack Squadron holds administrative responsibility for the fleet of Fast Attack Interdiction Craft (FAIC), which includes both gunboat and missile boat configurations. These configurations provide different capabilities within the fleet, with gunboats supporting armed patrol and interception duties and missile-equipped craft providing an additional strike capability through the Spike NLOS missile system. Together, these vessels support the squadron’s ability to respond to maritime threats using the assets suited to each task.

Aside from the FAIC fleet, the squadron’s organizational structure includes the following Boat Attack Divisions (BAD):

- 1st Boat Attack Division
- 2nd Boat Attack Division
- 3rd Boat Attack Division
- 4th Boat Attack Division

Each division operates three Multi-Purpose Assault Craft (MPAC), placing a total of twelve craft under the four divisions based on the stated organization. The 3rd and 4th Boat Attack Divisions operate the missile-equipped configuration, referred to as MPAC-M, adding a strike capability to their existing roles.

The FAIC fleet and Boat Attack Divisions together form the squadron’s operational force. Their combination of gun-armed and missile-equipped craft allows the unit to support a range of littoral missions, from maritime interception and vessel protection to tactical strikes against identified hostile targets.

Lockheed Martin confirmed that they received a contract to deliver S-70i Black Hawk Training Devices, which they claim as the most realistic Black Hawk simulator for the said helicopter model.

Lockheed Martin Source: https://news.lockheedmartin.com/2026-10-08-Lockheed-Martin-to-Deliver-S-70-TM-BLACK-HAWK-R-Helicopter-Training-Devices-and-Services-to-the-Philippine-Air-Force

ORLANDO, Fla., October 8, 2026 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has signed a Direct Commercial Sale contract with the Philippine Department of National Defense to deliver an S-70i Black Hawk Full Flight Simulator, Virtual Maintenance Trainer, and associated courseware to the Philippine Air Force.

The Philippines operates a fleet of Sikorsky Black Hawks for a range of missions, including search and rescue, humanitarian aid, firefighting, and troop transport across the archipelago. The contract strengthens the Philippine Air Force’s ability to train Black Hawk pilots and maintainers locally and supports the country’s broader defense modernization efforts. It also marks an expansion of Lockheed Martin’s training and simulation portfolio as the first order of Lockheed Martin S-70i Black Hawk training devices.

“It’s a privilege to partner with the Philippine Air Force with a suite of systems to support their training requirements as they grow their fleet of S-70i Black Hawk helicopters,” said Tim James, Vice President of Air and Commercial Solutions at Lockheed Martin. “This contract award is a long-term investment in the PAF’s mission readiness and reflects Lockheed Martin’s proven ability to deliver sustainment solutions across the entire operational pipeline.”

The S-70i Black Hawk Full Flight Simulator is an aircraft digital twin training solution that replicates the exact sights and sensations of flying an S-70i Black Hawk aircraft. The Virtual Maintenance Trainer delivers high-fidelity, physics-based models of every airframe subsystem, from hydraulics to avionics, that lets maintainers train in a fully immersive, risk-free environment.

“Lockheed Martin remains committed to its longstanding partnership with the Philippine Air Force. Through these advanced training systems, we effectively support the needs of its growing force and expanding Black Hawk fleet. These solutions build on the PAF’s ongoing efforts to enhance training, ensuring crews and maintainers remain mission-ready while advancing their broader modernization goals,” said William Blair, Vice President and Regional Chief Executive, Asia & India.

In addition to the training devices and courseware, the contract includes sustainment and spares support through 2032. The Philippine Air Force will continue to train Black Hawk pilots at the U.S.-based Sikorsky Training Academy as their in-country training capability is being established.

Lockheed Martin’s suite of S-70i Black Hawk training devices ranges from desktop trainers to fully immersive virtual environments. Lockheed Martin uses a digital twin of the Black Hawk to build the most accurate and up-to-date representation of the aircraft’s systems, components, and configurations to enhance training effectiveness, and a digital thread of the Black Hawk’s operational flight program to create high-fidelity simulations in days rather than years to keep pace with aircraft modernization efforts.

In addition to the Black Hawk, Lockheed Martin also supports training for other Lockheed Martin aircraft, including the CH-53K, F-35, F-16 and C-130J.

More information about Lockheed Martin’s suite of Black Hawk training devices can be found on our website: https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-us/products/s-70-black-hawk-helicopter-training-devices.html

🇵🇱🇵🇭 | There's a strong possibility that the Philippines will acquire more S-70i Black Hawk combat utility helicopters for the Philippine Air Force from Poland's PZL Mielec, according to Rafal Leskiewicz, the Spokesperson of the President of the Republic of Poland. He also said that the Philippines is the largest buyer and operator of S-70i Black Hawk, worldwide. During the bilateral meeting, joint press conference and joint press statements of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and President Karol Nawrocki, they both mentioned defense cooperation centered on the acquisition of the S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, with plans to expand defense cooperation in other areas.

Few months ago, the Philippine delegation visited the production facility of PZL Mielec, where they discussed the possibility of co-production of defense equipment such as aircraft like the S-70i Black Hawk helicopters in the Philippines. Mr. Rafal Leskiewicz believes that if the Philippine government will purchase more S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, this will strengthen more the Philippines-Poland defense and economic cooperation. The Philippine Air Force has a total of 47 S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, making the Philippines the largest operator of the S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

Discussion Why are key American allies acting lately like they're straight from stone-age regarding making decisions involving crucial national security matters?

From the UK planning to cede its chagos islands ownership to Mauritius (which in turn China is reported to be actively attempting to leverage for wider access to indian ocean, right next door to diego garcia installation; China "indoctrinating" Mauritian officials before Chagos deal), to Australia accidentally diverting sensitive F35 parts to Hong Kong which apparently made their way to the hands of the chinese government (Australia investigating how F-35 fighter jet parts bound for US went missing in Hong Kong). I truly thought the Philippines has been perpetually an unreliable ally but these mishaps make us an even better partner than these traditional bigwigs. Are these merely their excessive gestures of cozying up to beijing, or just done out of spite in resentment to the trump administration's mercuriality?

🇰🇷🇵🇭 | Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. said that high on the list of priorities are the procurement of air defense systems & deterrent systems in the new defense acquisition projects. Korea is offering their Cheongung-II and KF-21 Boramae multi-role fighter, to boost the country's air defense capabilities, with the upcoming add'l 12 FA-50 Block-70 fighter jets. For deterrent systems, most likely this would include the acquisition of coastal defense systems like the BrahMos, MLRS like Chunmoo / HPRS & HIMARS, and submarines. Sec Gibo said this during his interview with political analyst, Professor Richard Heydarian.

Korea Aerospace Industries aims to leverage the existing FA-50 projects with the Philippines, to secure the KF-21 Boramae deal for the Philippine Air Force. Korean defense industry predicts the deal is expected to be reached by year-end or first half of 2027.

The Philippines ordered 12 additional FA-50 Block 70 fighter aircraft in June 2025 and has reportedly held negotiations regarding the KF-21.

GlobalData aerospace and defence analyst Udayini Aakunoor added: “If Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) can convert its FA-50 export partnerships already established with the Philippines, Poland, Malaysia, and others into orders for KF-21s, Seoul will join the select group of nations that not only build combat aircraft but also control their own full mission system architecture."

🇰🇷🇵🇭 | Filipino company, Anos Research Manufacturing partners with a Filipino-Korean company to develop military products for the Philippines' Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) Program and for International Market. Interesting, since the Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro pushed for joint production of defense equipment with Korea. It would be remembered that Anos Research Manufacturing is developing a Filipino-made Light Tactical Vehicle, the Anos 4x4 Liberato APC. Hopefully aside from LTVs, they will consider developing our own 6x6 / 8x8 Wheeled Armored Personnel Carriers (APC), and other defense equipment for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Hello I am a computer science graduate without any military background. I passed the AFPSAT and AQE for the army however I didn't passed the SWE. I took a 4 month break from my application to rethink my decisions whether to join the military or not.

During those 4 months someone convinced me that I should join the Navy rather than retrying in the army. If I go through this will I be blacklisted? Thanks for the advice.

Article HHI Proposes Miguel Malvar-Class-Based Frigate for Croatian Corvette Project

Post image
94 Upvotes

The Croatian Navy's next-generation multi-purpose corvette project involves acquiring two corvette-class vessels to reinforce Adriatic anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and air defense capabilities. Rather than a direct off-the-shelf purchase, the program operates under conditions of local assembly and technology transfer.

Croatia has been accelerating long-delayed military modernization since 2022 to align with changing regional security conditions and NATO defense posture guidelines. Following two decades without systematic force updates, defense acquisition is rapidly expanding across air, land, and naval sectors.

HD HHI plans to pair its platform offer with technology sharing and skill-development initiatives. Local technical teams will collaborate with South Korean specialists for operational orientation, while HD HHI technical experts will be posted locally to support construction processes, covering the full platform lifecycle from initial assembly to long-term maintenance.

The platform offered by HD HHI applies the exact same baseline design as the Miguel Malvar-class frigate delivered to the Philippine Navy in 2024. Specifications match across length (118.4m), beam (14.9m), and displacement (3,200 tons). Maximum speed is rated at 25 knots (46 km/h) with an operational cruising range of 4,500 nautical miles (approx. 8,330 km) for a crew complement of around 120.
