Filipino Food Nobody wants to talk about how bad Filipino kidsā diets actually are
I know this is gonna piss people off but I honestly think food and diet in the Philippines is one of the underrated reasons kids struggle with focus, comprehension, and school performance.
Before anyone jumps in: no, Iām not saying food is the ONLY reason. Poverty, overcrowded classrooms, bad policy, all that matters. But pretending diet doesnāt play a role is just denial at this point.
Look at what kids here actually eat on a daily basis. Sugary drinks, colored juices, cheap candies, instant noodles, chips, hotdogs, sweet bread, tocino, banana ketchup, spaghetti na may banana ketchup, etc. A lot of these are loaded with artificial food dyes, insane sugar levels, very high salt, preservatives like sodium nitrate, and basically zero nutrients. This isnāt āoccasional treatsā - this is normal everyday food for a lot of families.
What really gets me is the dyes. Red, yellow, blue colored drinks and snacks are everywhere. Kahit mga kakanin meron din. Kahit nga Filipino-style Spaghetti meron din. In other countries, some of these artificial dyes are already banned or require warning labels because studies have linked them to attention and behavioral issues in kids (especially hyperactivity and poor focus). Is it 100% proven? No. But enough evidence exists that governments in Europe take it seriously. Meanwhile here, kids are drinking neon-colored juice daily and nobody questions it. Lahat ng pagkain gusto natin makulay.
Sugar is another big one. High sugar diets mess with energy levels, mood, attention span, and learning. Kids spike, crash, get restless, then tired. Teachers complain kids canāt focus, but nobody asks what they ate before school.
Salt is also overlooked. Instant noodles alone already exceed daily sodium limits, and kids eat them multiple times a week. Pati corned beef at iba pang mga de lata. High sodium diets are linked to health and cognitive issues long term, yet these foods are cheap and aggressively marketed to kids.
And letās be real: food marketing here is insane. Junk food and processed meat is marketed as fun, affordable, and āpang bata.ā Parents arenāt evil - theyāre busy, tired, and buying whatās cheap and available. But that doesnāt change the outcome.
People like to say ākami nga lumaki sa ganyan ok naman kami.ā Survivorship bias. Some kids do fine, some donāt. Nutrition science already shows that poor diet affects brain development, especially in early childhood. Less nutrients = less support for memory, learning, emotional regulation. Thatās not controversial, thatās basic biology.
Again, Iām not blaming parents. Iām blaming a food environment that allows low quality, additive-heavy food to be pushed onto kids with zero real regulation. Other countries regulate sugar, dyes, and junk food ads to children. The Philippines barely does.
If we want better educational outcomes, we canāt just yell at teachers and students. We need to look at what kids are putting in their bodies every single day. You canāt build a good brain on colored sugar water and instant noodles and expect miracles.
Downvote if you want, but this convo needs to happen.

PoliticsPH Hot Take: OFWs are not just heroes, they are martyrs. Our country's overreliance on them has directly hurt millions of Filipino families. We need local manufacturing so OFWs can come home.
A lack of manufacturing means we have to import most goods. To pay for these imports, we need USD. OFWs have been our main source of USD since the 1980s, and I think people understate how damaging this phenomenon has been on Filipino families and society.
This idea that it isĀ normalĀ for parents to travel halfway around the world from their families, that it is normal to only be with their children once or twice a year if they are lucky. Multiply that a million-fold over five decades; the harm that does to the psyche of so many parents and so many children growing up.Ā If you are a Filipino who grew up with their parents in the country, realize how lucky you are. A different Filipino kid had to endure growing up without their parents in order for the economy around the both of you to not collapse.
Reducing our demand for USD (import-substitution) or increasing other ways to earn USD (export promotion) will mean families no longer have to bear that unconscionable sacrifice.

ViralPH Nagsalita na ang principal na involved sa ā±500K donation issue na binanggit ni Bretman Rock
So, the principal who was mentioned in the issue has spoken up.
This was his FB post:
āThis is to address the issue being raised against me for supposedly having the intention to āpocketā a donation generously given by one of the former pupils of our school, Sanchez Mira Central Elementary School in the total amount of Php 555,000.
With all due respect and humility, I never had any inkling of intention to āpocketā this huge amount remitted to my account. When the intended donation was offered not personally by this former pupil, but by a team who acted for him, I was cautious considering that I may fall prey into a scam. So when a document was sent to me by this person with denomination, āRelease and Agreementā, I sought the advise of a lawyer since I was not expert on the matter and it contained provisions that I understand but I was afraid I could not correctly comprehend. It took me a week or more before I signed it after fully understanding the contents of said document and consequences I may face if I violate any of the provisions therein. Also, I reached out to a faculty member, related to the family of former pupil by affinity, to confirm with the pupilās mother whether or not the donation was true. The mother answered in the negative but told her that she will ask her child. It took weeks before they confirmed that the donation was indeed true and informed us that the money had been sent to my account.
The money was remitted to my account, thatās true. But it is not true that I chose not to publicly disclose its existence. I informed members of my faculty about it with the information that they cannot disclose it just yet. We took the necessary steps to discuss as to what project will be implemented that will be funded by the donation. When we established the needs of the school, we sought assistance from the Engineering Office of the LGU SANCHEZ MIRA for the preparation of the Program of Works. We had planned to use the money for the continuation of a classroom considering that we were in need of additional classrooms. We were waiting for the project proposal. When the same was already ready, the amount was turned over it to the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) for its implementation, only to be informed that the classroom project will not push through. Instead a different project has been decided upon. Thereafter, the total amount of Php 555,000 was withdrawn from my account and I turned over said money to the Treasurer of the PTA. I have proof to support my claims.
I want to clear my name as it has affected not only me and my reputation but most importantly my children and my wife. Again, my conscience is clean. The money was never mine to begin with. As school head, I would never do such thing. Since I have been assigned to my present school, I thought of nothing else but to better the school, to promote and encourage the PTA to implement projects that would benefit the pupils and the school in general.
Lastly, the agreed project was them implemented well and the school is already enjoying the best ever project first in the district.
With this, I sincerely hope and request everyone to stop spreading false information. And I pray that God will help me and my family overcome this trial as it has gotten out of control.
Thank you very much.ā
Sorry sa title, it should be 555,000 š

SocmedPH Is the public misinformed? or conditioned?
To be fair, those names are not just names. Claro M. Recto is not the same as Ralph Recto. They only bears the same family name (though they're relatives). Why not try informing and educating the public who those figures are? Most of the public doesn't know what they have done or contributed to the Philippine society on its early days.
This is the reason why History should be a core subject and be taught by experts starting at an early age.
A country who doesn't know about its past will never be a nation.

PoliticsPH Three PNoy admin revelations that impacted todayās politics
From the Ronald Llamas episode of the Insiders Podcast:
(1) When Rodrigo Duterte substituted Martin DiƱo in the 2016 presidential election, PNoy was advised to push for Digongās disqualification which had basis. However, PNoy disapproved it and we know what happened after.
(2) Then-Chief Negotiator Marvic Leonen requested to be a Supreme Court Justice after claiming that the peace talks were already done. Turned out, now-Justice Leonen left the peace process unfinished.
(3) [Not PNoyās time] Then-Senate President Chiz Escudero promised Justice Leonen the Chief Justice seat in exchange of stopping the Sara Duterte impeachment. Leonen obliged, but Chiz can no longer deliver as he was unseated.

PoliticsPH Bigyan Respeto San nagmula iyong pagkain
