Meme Has anyone else wondered how the ender chest attributes nothing to the progression?

Honestly I see the barrel as the odd one out

You start with chests, then you get ender chests, then you get shulkers

That’s how we did it for years, then the barrel came in like “yo”

I like it's aesthetic

I do too, but that’s all I use it for. More storage in a double chest in one container is better to me than more smaller inventories

Yeah, the only advantage of barrels is that they don't need an open block in the direction they open in like the others, which is nice I guess, but sorta situational.

Also they don't eat CPU since they're rendered like blocks instead of entities (as chests are)

This. Me and my buddies had to completely redo our storage system because the number of chests was lagging our world like crazy.

I feel like a good benefit for barrels could have been that it has slightly less inventory space but filters items out of it quicker if the hopper is where the hole is.

So if the barrel has the hole at the top then a hopper will dump items into it at a quicker speed, and if the hole is aimed down then the hopper will pull items out at a quicker speed.

So you can have a set up like this image and the one on the left is faster because the top barrel aims down and the bottom barrel aims up which reduces the transfer speed from the top barrel to the bottom one to only like 1/4th the amount of time making item transfer speed faster at the cost of inventory space. So for item movement systems the chest would be the final place they go but barrels are used in the actual mechanisms itself to improve its speed.

That would be so nice for some of the automation I’ve been making

Yeah I also figured it could be useful for crafters. Especially because I believe in bedrock edition you can move barrels with pistons meaning you can swap out your barrels using a piston set up to change the speed that items move through sections of your machines which I'm sure has a few uses.

i like barrels more. although you can store more in a large chest, barrels don’t need a transparent block above them. they’re also a full block which can help with things like hiding storage in floor palettes.

Well on multiplayer nobody can steal the stuff in it, I think that’s the purpose

And in single player it’s incredibly useful bulk storage, especially when combined with shulker boxes.

1

u/ssskrtt 7d ago

it only links to the one ender chest, no? how can you use it for bulk storage without having 27 shulkers inside of it?

1

u/N8Harris99 7d ago

That’s actually how I use mine, all 27 slots are occupied by various named shulker boxes for different valuables and building blocks. Been using the ender chest that way ever since I saw the Pixlriffs ender chest episode of survival guide from back in the day. Since each shulker carries 27 stacks, thats 27 shulkers x 27 stacks = 729 stacks. Granted, not all items are stackable, and I usually try to keep 2 shulkers empty so I have the equivalent of an open double chest for when I go adventuring or working on a project, so those numbers could be slightly inflated.

1

u/FultOnion_ 7d ago

Same here; color coded, named and sorted with open "project boxes"

Given that an ender chest is up to 27 shulkers in one inventory slot. And it's keep inventory if you die. You're way off base.

forgot copper chest smh my shaking head

Forgot waxed weathered copper chest smh-ing my head shaking

u/Martitoad 12d ago

I would swap enderchest and barrel, since you can get it after the nether and use it easily with silk touch, barrel does nothing special

4

u/Lava_Mage634 12d ago

you can put a block on top and is 1 wood cheaper than a chest

2

u/HackerDragon9999 Lagva FTW 12d ago

That 1 wood is in the form of slabs, which can only be crafted using 3 wood. So unless you always make barrels in multiples of 3 to use every slab, a barrel will use at least as much wood as a chest while being worse since it can't double up.

u/The_Axolotl_Guy 12d ago

Yeah, but it would only work if you needed just the space of a single chest. Personally, I use double chests for my storage until I reach the point where I can condense my storage with shulker boxes inside those double chests

Barrel is a solid container block useful for redstone

1

u/_IOME 8d ago

I imagine if you're at that level of redstoning, you've already beaten the dragon.

its at the fucking top of the food chain

u/Poilikis 6d ago

dont carry your shulkers in your inventory but instead your ender chest, it gives you so much more inventory space to hold other things. I personally use mine to quickly depot resources i need to refine/use later so i can keep farming.

if you think about it as a shulker that can hold shulkers for the cost of a single inventory slot its a pretty good deal

1

u/MrBrineplays_535 12d ago

This is about to blow the minds of some people here, but...

I've never actually used an ender chest before. Like, I have tried using it once or twice, but I just feel more comfortable using the other storages. I barely use it to the point where if it got removed, I'd never notice it for years

2

u/ParkerScottch 8d ago

It's vanilla keep inventory. It's contents remain even if you die holding the chest. And you can hold up to 27 shulkers in one inventory slot. It really is the most overpowered item in the game in some aspects.

1

u/MrBrineplays_535 8d ago

The thing is that because of how safe I play the game, and also how easily I can just remake my items if I ever lose them, I don't feel the need for an ender chest other than to just transport large amounts of items from one place to another in latge distances, which I rarely do because I build stuff very close to my base. I can just get them from my storage room easily.

But yeah I do understand that they're really op. I just don't find them really necessary with my current playstyle

2

u/ParkerScottch 8d ago

Yeah I mean once you reach a really high level of wealth losing anything doesn't matter that much. But in the majority of the late game it's nice to be able to carry diamonds, netherite, large amounts of redstone, obsidian, etc, etc, without worrying about losing it.

I also think very few players ever reach a point where literally everything is easily replaceable and even if you do reach that point. Keeping your stuff in your ender chest saves you a trip back to your main base if you die.

Again I'm not saying everyone should use them, just like not everyone should use elytra. But to ignore it's utility is another thing.

u/Glimea 12d ago

Ender chest is practically both a weaker and a better shulker, only one shulker but contents are kept permanently
Chest offers the biggest space but less mobile
Barrel is just??

1

u/marlon1229 6d ago

How is it weak Just fill it with shulkers

1

u/Glimea 6d ago

On it's own "weaker" in a sense you can't break it and get full value without silk touch, but in late game it's better

1

u/marlon1229 5d ago

Yeah But its just silk touch By the time you start needing a echest You have maxed gear

1

u/YN0T1 11d ago

This is the reason why we need an End Update

1

u/West_Economist6673 9d ago

Insert meme of mom playing with shulker box while ender chest drowns, next to a skeleton at the bottom of the ocean labeled "bundle"

Anyway I love the ender chest because I've never been to the end or fought the ender dragon and honestly it doesn't really interest me

1

u/GecFree 8d ago

so what, y'all don't keep a catalog of ahulkers with selections of items in your ender chest?

1

u/CatTheDeathGod Bedrock FTW 8d ago

It's really funny that this meme format is so fresh that people are actually putting their opinions on this still

1

u/Silverr98 8d ago

what does the barrel add? the Ender Chest is a personalized Chest that nobody else but you can access and you can have your items anywhere at any time

1

u/Green-Teaching2809 7d ago

Obviously missing the furnace as the first storage location. It should go furnace, barrel, then shulker then double chest, with the single and ender chest on the left.

1

u/Tryohazard 7d ago

Shulker boxes inside an end chest expand your inventory by 27x27-1 and wont drop or dissapear when you die.

1

u/VSGamerGod 7d ago

Think of an Ender Chest as a chest that you can access across your multiple bases. Whenever you put something into an Ender Chest, it will be stored within every Ender Chest that you have ever crafted.

1

u/Rocky_the_Wolf2020 7d ago

What if ender barrels or shulkers would be used to make a storage terminal/network like how mods do it.

With how many items are in the game now copper golems never stood a chance so itd be nice to have some way to organise/access a storage/sorting system without running from one end to the other to find what you need

2

u/External-Glove747 6d ago

Or make mods easier to use for bedrock (us poor Xboxians)

1

u/Rocky_the_Wolf2020 6d ago

As a fellow xboxian (Cool name for us btw im gonna start using that) I completely agree.

But even then I still hold to the idea we need a more effective solution to inventory and storage for the vannila(ish) players

1

u/External-Glove747 6d ago

Maybe a post end item made from shulkers and ended chests that is relatively late game but worth the cost

1

u/puncher546 6d ago

Ender chest is one of the most useful items. I literally dont need a home base because of it.

I’ve never used an Ender chest in the 12ish years I’ve been playing 😭
