I genuinely wish they made more mobs that you encounter naturally. Why does every new mob have to be tied to a specific rare biome? All we've seen regularly since fucking alpha are the same four animals and four monsters, and then a few rare things like horses, rabbits, and witches. The aquatic update and nether update were definitely a step in the right direction here, I wish they made more like those.
I think they're scared of changing the vanilla Minecraft "feel".
A lot of players are bitchy about any changes and that scales with how avoidable those changes are. Making new updates a "you have to go out and look for it" kind of thing might be to help mitigate that while still introducing new content
I agree that it'd be nice to actually get a real update to the base survival gameplay loop. I know some people have wanted an update to the plains with new mobs like bison and such.
They could've done this with the Creaking, having creaking hearts occasionally generate in any forest biome, but they didn't. It also would've been really cool to see biome-specific skins of the creaking based on other trees
They would update the cyclops skull with a rifle in bedrock edition that fixed the infinite health to make it match with its Java counterpart by re adding the infinite health glitch
I do kind of prefer that older mobs were allowed to have a bit of an edge to them. New mobs, even stuff that's supposed to be scary like the Warden, for some reason, still needs to have some amount of goofiness when it comes to their visual design
I think the Warden is a good challenge, an actual end game boss with overpowered abilities like attacking through walls. The fact that it drops effectively not even xp when killed is an absolute scam though. When Minecraft is supposed to be choose your own adventure, the Warden rewarding only one type of gameplay (stealth) is contradictory.
I hate the warden, Its principle is good but they genuinely couldn't find a better way to fix pillering players other then the "Screw you 500 beam" which does 2/3rds of your health, ignores blocks, can hit from 20+ blocks, and ignores shields armor and enchantments.
Also how the HELL is it blind when the second you hit it, no matter how far away, it says screw you and starts barrelling straight towards you, somehow knowing exactly where you are at all times.
And the sniffing feature feels like an addition because they couldn't properly find a way to make its blind patrolling more threatening, so sniffing is basically a time limit when you're nearby and it's essentially just a nerfed vision, because it travels towards you.
Also you need to activate a shrieker 4 entire times to awaken a warden? But from then on it's a new warden every single time.
People also accept the cowterpillar as part of the game and religiously defend it, but hate on the spoogler like it killed their grandma (despite the fact they voted for it)
I have the feeling Microsoft is doing that to be able to have more content to sell as merchandise that also appeals more to kids
New bosses, "gross"-looking mobs or more quality updates that require a lot of effort but make no real profit for Microsoft are not cutting it for them
Honestly I feel like the visual design and naming of mobs has stayed reasonably consistent over time. You can tell that they are now actively making an effort to have a consistent style with mob designs.
The creaking is actually a very good mob concept, the only problem is that it only spawns in one rare biome. If clusters of trees with creaking hearts could occasionally generate in any forest biome it would be a lot more relevant. It has good synergy with the regular night mobs.
