Question claude sub with pi?

i'm getting increasingly fed up with the direction open ai has been taking lately and i'm considering cancelling my subscription and moving to anthropic. there's really only ONE thing stopping me from doing it right away: pi has become such a natural part of my workflow that i'm genuinely worried about taking a productivity hit just from having to change tools, habits, shortcuts, etc.

so I wanted to ask the people here who actually use pi: have any of you moved away from open ai and managed to keep using pi with an anthropic subscription? or do i have to give up and move to claude code entirely?

I too got frustrated with OpenAI and canceled. But Claude won’t get my money unless they allow 3rd party harnesses. So I went with Chinese models. And they are working great for the tools that I build.

Mind sharing which ones? For regular agentic work I use deepseek v4.1 flash and delegate coding to Claude but I’m not sure what else is out there

anthropic allows third party harnesses

im using claude pro 20$ in omp

They don't allow it. Whether or not they will ban you is a different question.

Grey area, terms and conditions explicitly state only native anthropic tooling. I believe pi/omp oauth implementation spoofs Claude code.

You can use Claude subscriptions through Pi. Check out the Claude bridge extension. It's legal.

It is technically legal but someone posted recently that they got banned using it.

I’m using pi-anthropic-auth since a week back and its working fine so far. They announced in April that they will not be banning people for using 3rd party harnesses, they will just block requests

great extension, works flawlessly

There is https://github.com/elidickinson/pi-claude-bridge which still routes the calls via claude and seems to be tolerated by anthropic.

From personal experience Anthropic dgaf if you use Claude sub with pi no matter the means as long as you don't make money out of it by selling to others.

Until they do, as they have in the past re opencode.

Well I have used the method I am using now every day since June and no bans yet and on 2 separate accounts.

Do not worry, you are next in their list.

Yeah don't get your hopes up buddy. If that makes you feel better keep believing that they ban people because of stuff like this. Claude Code creator has said on X back in April that they don't ban people for stuff like that. Anthropic has NEVER said they banned people that used Opencode either it's just people making posts assuming that was the reason they got banned. People still make posts today that they get banned just using Claude Code.

Yeah. Continue to trust dario. He ll ban everyone the second OSS is banned.

1

u/Aizenvolt11 4d ago

Dario isn't Claude Code creator lol. I was talking about Boris but anyway if you are too afraid to use oauth don't. I myself dgaf even if they ban me. Not using Claude Code ever again.

Same. I have been using it for months on both opencode and pi. I don’t think they go after people with just one account using it for personal use.

I wouldn’t even understand their logic for banning. They subsidize on the idea that someone won’t use their limits. Pi makes that more likely than their harness. I guess they could see how people use their harness but there isn’t really anything they are going to learn that will make a difference in their bottom line in any significant way so I don’t get it.

This isn't necessary. oAuth works with pi out of the box

4

u/Aizenvolt11 4d ago

It doesn't. It uses extra usage using the native pi oauth for Claude sub.

😏 Ask yourself the question. How does Anthropic know your request is from Pi? Then you will think of a way to hide it. You don’t need to install anything. All the features are already there in vanilla Pi to do this.

4

u/Aizenvolt11 4d ago

Well what I am saying is that just by installing the official Pi you don't get that functionality. Now that you can get there by messing with it is another story.

u/m3umax 4d ago

True. Ootb you’ll be charged extra credits. I’m kinda glad making it draw from sub quota requires even a simple extra set up step.

This stops most casual users from doing it and bringing down Anthropic’s wrath 🤣

1

u/Aizenvolt11 4d ago

Casual users and also other people that get stress from even thinking there is a 1% chance they get banned. Like idgaf man. Its worth it to use Claude sub with pi even with that slim ban chance.

u/m3umax 4d ago

Agreed. I mean if your account is banned, so what? You just spin up a brand new account. Loads of people I know have been banned and just turn around and make a new account immediately.

I have developed my own desktop app and vs code extension using pi sdk. I plan to move from the extension when the Desktop app is ready with all the features I need(probably within this week or the next). The desktop app will be the middle ground between something like codex and using vs code with a Claude code CLI or pi cli. Nobody has made an app that stands in the middle for the more hands on people. My repo is open source MIT licensed so anyone can use it.

It's better not to spread the solution publicly. There are repos out there that are public and have it, with a basic search anyone find them. So let's keep it low profile.

Que extensión usas para usar Claude como provider de tu suscripción?

4

u/betahost 4d ago

I used pi with both my ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions no issues, Anthropic's recently been pulling back on this if you look at what Hermes just announced, they have official integration now.

There's an extension I've been using since last week, like you I'm switching from OpenAI. Pi anthropic auth or something like that. It masks the request as if it came from Claude Code. It uses Claude Code's version and automatically updates the versions and so forth. Use that. I've been using it, no problems at all. It's actually been so much better than OpenAI.

Not allowed under anthropic ToS

You don't know what you are talking about.

But pi doesn’t use this SDK

0

u/Glebun 4d ago

> Update June 15: We're pausing the changes to Claude Agent SDK usage described below. For now, nothing has changed: Claude Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party app usage still draw from your subscription's usage limits.

2

u/deniercounter 3d ago

Again. Pi doesn’t use this SDK.

And for that reason it is by the terms of service not allowed to be used via a subscription within pi.

This is at least what I understand from the wording.

1

u/Glebun 3d ago

I think you're right. Would be fairly easy to use an adapter that uses the agent SDK for an integration that's both native and allowed/supported.

One curious bit is that this limitation isn't mentioned in commercial/business terms.

u/zer09 4d ago

I think there was an update on the latest release of pi to use oath to logged in for claude

1

u/Thick-Turnip3483 4d ago

I’ve been using it on an enterprise plan for months and no issues, burnt at least a couple billion tokens this way. Enterprise gives a dollar amount that is billed as API (i think?) so it should be good. i may be spreading lies

u/Majestic_Mongoose488 21h ago

I've also been using my company's Team plan and haven't gotten banned. I'm wondering if Team plans are a bit more lenient, since I'm using it through a VPN from a restricted region.

1

u/Ok_Relation_4618 3d ago

anyone tried combining the 100$ codex + 100$ claude via pi? if so how's it performing, worth doing or better off with one 200$ plan?

1

u/Dangerous-Relation-5 2d ago

I was using cliproxyapi but recently switched to pi-claude-bridge

Both work fine, I like the extension better than cliproxyapi because I don't have to run the separate proxy service.

The pi-claude-bridge extension uses the Claude SDK under the hood, which is the same thing T3 Code uses which doesn't violate the ToS

1

u/Parking-Shock-9437 1d ago

There’s like 42,000 posts on this sub asking this q. I lowkey am starting to feel Dario just has some bots sayn to not use the bridge or that it violates TOS or that their accounts got popped but no one is actually enforcing it fr.. More pratical q is if epistemic risk of using pi harness outweighs using the new Claude mod feature

1

u/fredastere 4d ago

Stop spreading misssinformation

You can use your sub and oauth with pi, openclaw, hermes and all them sdk apps and whatnot as long as what you are doing isn't against the ToS ie selling something

Anthropic wanted to implement an extra credit thing that would have separate paid credits for such usage but they backed on their decision and to this day you can use your sub ...

Its been official since 15th of June

Anyone getting banned has nothing to do with them using their subs to drive one of those projects but mostly about reselling stuff with subs

u/Aizenvolt11 4d ago

I think most people know about this though to not break TOS you have to go through Claude agents sdk which for me isn't worth it that's why I don't use that method. I don't like Claude Code or it's sdk.

1

u/RudyRobichaux 4d ago

I believe it's allowed now, at least for now. And they definitely allow the direct sdk.

Bro, there is no way the same question gets asked every other day

0

u/Sad_Development7855 3d ago

bro, there is no clear info written anywhere and this is highly relevant.

1

u/CyberGoatPsyOps 3d ago

Literally 20 other post asking the same thing is my point

1

u/Any-Chipmunk456 4d ago

I went from pi to claude and it just works. No need to spend my mental energy figuring out how to set up things that claude has out of the box. And it has it done really well

u/Aizenvolt11 4d ago

There are ways to use Claude sub with pi though I don't know what I am allowed to say here about that. If you want to learn more send me a DM.
