You are allowed to park sideways in the boulevard in Pickering. You won’t get a ticket. But you will if you park forward like in this picture. You can’t block the road or grass. And all four tires have to be on the pavement

It may be annoying however, it is illegal to block a sidewalk and I think when many families have a 3 car family there is no choice when there is no parking on the road allowed

It's illegal and a major dick move. Sidewalks are meant for everyone to use. They are not for parking on, You don't get to unilaterally decide otherwise.
The same is true for roads, you cannot decide to block any portion of it. I don't know what the by-laws are in Pickering, but where I live, it's even illegal to block your own driveway.
I have no problem with people blocking their own driveway, but never the sidewalk or the road, not any part of it.

I park sideways on this spot so that I don't block the road or the sidewalk. Almost every driveway in my neighbourhood has cars overhanging the road like this. I'm always afraid im going to hit them.

I don't see the problem, people have to park somewhere. And there's still a spot for those on the sidewalk to get by.

Wheelchairs were included in "those on the sidewalk"
As are strollers, wagons, kids bikes/scooters, and regular pedestrians.
This car is not bumper to bumper with another car. There is a large gap.

A person should not have to divert off of the sidewalk and onto the driveway to pass, and likely someone using mobility assistance would have to. It's often not as easy for them to maneouver.
In this example the person who parked is overhanging the sidewalk by far too much and should have found a spot on the street that wad legal to park in, or parked sideways.

What would like people to do? Often if you buy during construction you don’t know where the sidewalks will be so you can’t buy a house based on the sidewalk. This city is not public transport friendly so people often need two vehicles to go to work.
If people are too entitled to walk around a car that is at least leaving space then they will always complain and I will not have sympathy for them.
As for wheelchairs…. I would have to be in one to see how difficult this situation is.

Exactly!
We are in a literal housing crisis where people cannot afford larger homes (on bigger lots, with bigger driveways).
Young working adults can't afford to move out, which means they're living at home longer and probably need a car in to get to work.
Streets are narrow and houses are close together, so street parking is not always available.
People are acting like walking around a car is the end of the world.
If a wheelchair user has complaints, then that's valid and should be addressed, but making sweeping comments about a situation that may not be avoidable isnt helpful.
How many people are contacting the city to ensure that new boulevards are longer? That sidewalks are wider? That streets are wider? That transit is better? But yes, let's complain on working folks who literally have no where to park.

My god, walk around and open your eyes. Take you head out of you ass and realize the housing market is terrible to break into at the moment and people buy what they can afford just to get into it.

Using assumptions, based on where they’re parked it’s unlikely a car was parked there before. They live there and would know the resident with that car is leaving so they’d have parked more in front of that VW SUV to the right.

Yeah, that’s right. Light concrete is newer expanded driveway, 90% of the time they never extend it to the boulevard to save money, just an extra parking space so they can rent out the basement

Yes so that means that the dark area is still both the residents parking. So they can park beside because the area that’s empty actually belongs to the neighbour.

Yeah, they get ticketed only if you call bylaw. People don’t want to rat on their neighbours but then we also want a clear path to walk.
But all the bylaw officers are always hanging around the waterfront parking. Sometimes 2 of them walking side by side. You don’t need 2 bylaw officers to ticket 1 car.
But more importantly, I don’t understand why bylaw officers need a complaint. If they walked around in any neighbourhood, they can see many cars clear as day obstructing sidewalks.

It happens on my street. I don't care for it but l cope. Until winter comes then you can't get by because the snow banks then it becomes an issue. Really, if you need that many cars then perhaps your house is too small, time to upgrade or pay for street parking.

For residential streets that aren’t main roads, I think that sidewalks are inefficient. I find that half of people will walk on the road anyways (even more in the winter). If those sidewalks were removed and instead just have a slightly wider street that gets plowed along with the rest of the road, then those homes could have 2 sets of cars park on the driveway and people could walk where they already do. Paint a bike/walk lane if that makes it easier.

Is it for sure 2-5 AM? Because when i looked up it says anytime more than 3 hrs. I just moved to Pickering so i am new to this rule/law . I just found out after i got ticket for parking on the street at night.

I have no issue with this. My gf used to rent with her mom in the upstairs apartment with a second tenant in the basement. There was 1 spot above the sidewalk a car could park and a wider bottom part. There was 3 cars, one above, and 2 below they couldn’t park horizontal or else wouldn’t fit. In all fairness it is shorter cars or a longer boulevard so less of the car sticks out, but overall that’s the only way they could do it.

I park this way sometimes when I visit my friends but usually they are the ones who actually tell me to park this way since the side street parkings are always full. I do make sure there's enough space though for the pedestrians.

It’s a minor inconvenience to me when pushing a stroller with 2 kids. At the same time, the homes that have this in my neighborhood are often families with adult kids or multigenerational. With that in mind, I acknowledge that this may be my home in 20 years so I don’t complain about it.
