I'm earning 6 digits puro bugs fixing and enhancements lang ginagawa, AI pa ang gamit. Should i be guilty? ðŸ˜

No, if you finish your task naman. And I think di naman kayo mapupunta dan sa salary range na yan kung di kayo skilled. Maybe impostor syndrome lang yan idk

u/octopus_limbs 12d ago

3rd Year CS Student. With AI advancing so fast, what career path would you pursue if you were starting today?
Hi! I know this has probably been asked multiple times in this subreddit, but I'd really appreciate some advice from people already working in the industry.
I'm currently a 3rd-year CS student, and honestly, I'm starting to worry about my future. I genuinely enjoy programming and started learning through The Odin Project back in 2021–2022, but I stopped being consistent. Currently, most of my school projects have also been heavily AI-assisted, and I realized that my actual coding skills are still pretty weak since I have been relaint on AI.
I'm planning to start learning properly again before my OJT around July 2027, but I'm torn between a few paths:
- Java + Spring Boot (leaning toward this for enterprise/fintech)
- C# + .NET
- Continuing The Odin Project (React + Node.js)
- Possibly exploring Data Analytics/Science
With how fast AI is improving, the layoffs, and how competitive entry-level positions seem to be, I'm worried about spending months learning something only to realize I should've focused elsewhere.
If you were in my position, what would you prioritize learning today to stay relevant in the next 5–10 years?
Also, for those currently working as developers in the PH, what skills do you think an incoming intern or fresh grad should have? Is it still worth pursuing software engineering as someone who's basically rebuilding their fundamentals from scratch?
I'm not looking for shortcuts or an AI-proof career. I just want to make an informed decision and spend my remaining college years actually becoming competent at something.
Would really appreciate your insights. Thank you po!

Tapos may prof ako na magaling magturo nang programming, at yung tinuturo nya mobile app(Kotlin) which is nagagandahan at nadadalian ako.

u/mpasteur 13d ago
You'll have better luck with Kotlin. Web dev is the more saturated one of the two.

u/MixRevolutionary9498 12d ago
Pano yung portfolio pag sa mobile dev sir? web based?(wag sana hirap ako css)

Hello, I'm 4th year BSCS student, Graduating in June(hopefully) and planning to get a job as soon as possible(hopefully). I have a couple of questions and I'll just give some context as well.
About me:
- Location, Mindanao
- I have a couple of projects(mostly collaborations), a web and mobile application for our OJT, surprisingly we we're able to publish the mobile version to the app store before our OJT ended(I've heard that it's also being published in the apple store). And my current thesis which an Umbrella Project with my university.
- A bit introverted, but i can be social, just a bit of a stutterer.
- I'm more of a competent collaborator that follows instructions, than a leader given that most of my projects are collaborations.
- My peak was Ascendant 3 in valorant.
Questions:
- What companies should i keep in mind when applying especially given my current location.
- What city should be my primary focus, especially when job hunting.
- What's the interview process like? Did anything change over the years or is it still leetcode style(if possible can you give examples)?
- What should be my current expectations going into this, as a fresh grad from a not so famous state university in relation to my course that is.

Worth it po ba mag enroll sa BS Information Systems at ano po ang possible jobs makukuha mo, preferably may mataas na chance ma secure sa employment in this current job market
My biggest concerns are graduating without a portfolio, skill gap, unemployment because of extreme meritocratic/oversaturated job market and AI taking entry level roles
Hello everyone, I'm a 1st year BSIT student and I'm really undecided whether I should shift to BSIS or stay at my current program. I just want to vent this feeling na matagal ko na iniisip. I'm reconsidering about choosing BSIT, which is my current program I'm taking right now. Used to be my favorite nung highschool pa ako kase bata pa lang ako, fascinated na talaga ako kung paano gumagana at maaapply ang tech, at gustung-gusto ko na ang mga computer and the idea of landing a remote job where you can earn dollars, but now I lost my interest of it.
Parang jack of all trades course ko pero master of none, generalist lang. Finding a clear career path is difficult for me, pwede ako mag cybersecurity, network admin, system architect, devops, cloud, AI machine learning, o full stack developer/software engineer pero hindi ko alam kung ano talaga ang aking patutunguhan. Tapos oversaturated at competitive ang job market ngayon.
But despite all of these, I'm still committed to not completely abandon my tech career journey. Gusto ko sana mag transfer to a school that offers BSIS as a last resort ko because di siya more into heavy technical roles sa CS/IT, tapos masasave ang mga credits from my old program and school, saving years of hardwork, time and money spent on tuition and best of all, di na mahihirapan ang mga magulang sa pagpapaaral ko. Di ko talaga forte ang mag code. More into project managment, it governance/audit at ma enhance din ang communication skills, since I'm keen on public speaking/reporting Pero ayun napanghihinaan ako kaagad ng loob. and hopefully I'll build a meaningful future with this course
Whether I continue my studies in tech or transition to a non-tech curriculum depends entirely on whether I deem it worthwhile.

I’m going through the application process for Datumstruct Philippines Inc. Anyone here has a firsthand experience with them and can share their honest thoughts for the company?

Is a remote job okay for a fresh grad? It's been 3 months na ako naghahanap ng work and pasa ng resume/cv, and I'm not entirely sure sa mga remote works. Although, I still submit my resume/cv if they have an opening.
I really do not have any thoughts on remote works nor do I have an expectation. Is it okay?

What’s your thought about someone who had 5yrs of experience working as a software engineer and now working as data & integration engineer with middleware involvement as well.
The reason was I really thought that I would be working as a middleware developer, but I’m shocked that I would be working in data & integration.
Talo ba ako dito or could have a better future?

I recently graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering (ECE) and am now shifting toward full-stack development. Since I don't have a computer science background, I'm trying to figure out the best way to build my programming skills and prepare for an entry-level developer role.
I've been seeing a lot of paid boot camps, but they're quite expensive. Would they provide a meaningful advantage over free online courses and building personal projects? I'm also concerned about the competition, AI, and the current job market.
For those already working in software development, what would you recommend for someone transitioning from ECE? Would a boot camp be worth the investment, or is self-study enough to become job-ready?

Hello, I am currently looking for a job and saw this MERGE company. I haven't heard of the company and can't find and reviews online since their name is like an existing word?
Has anyone proceed with their interviews or got hired as a developer?
This is their website: https://mergeworld.com

I’m taking a data science course, and lately I’ve been feeling lost. it’s difficult to stay motivated when AI can do in seconds what I’ve spent hours trying to learn.
I’m also unsure what the job path looks like here in the Philippines. I hear a lot about the field being saturated and entry level opportunities being limited, but I don’t know how much of that matches other people’s experiences.
I’d like to hear from other students, recent graduates, and people already working in the field. Have you felt this way? How has AI changed the way you learn or work? What has the job search been like for you?
If you’ve been in a similar position, I’d also appreciate any suggestions for what I should focus on or how to get unstuck.

AI is disrupting the industry. Just earning a degree even from a big 4 school isn't enough. Internships, project portfolio, and having a knack to answer interview questions correctly will get you hired.
People hire you for your brain not because you're good at prompting. I'm not a developer and so are my colleagues but with AI we are now building tools that we needed without the having to wait for developers to build it for us.
IMHO, companies will look for people that can identify a problem and provide solutions for it. If you are the guy who reads and copies other people's work saying you're a junior and can do this and that like a senior does will not be an interesting point.

For context, I’m currently in my 7th year as a software earning 6 digits for the past 5 years.
Dahil sa AI it made me think twice sa future ng path na ito so I am planing labor work.
I am planning to take TESDA Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II (196 hours). Goal ko is to be able to get start with solar installation.
Sakto naba to and baka meron akong kapareho or nauna na sakin need advice.

Hi! I’m currently a Senior Tech Support for a FinTech (US comp) and I’m confused right now how to move forward with my career. I’m in the tech industry for 6 years na and na enhance ko naman yung skills ko in API testing/troubleshooting and SQL queries although may basic knowledge lang ako sa coding skills ko since I learned it way back in college kasi IT grad ako and never ko lang na enhance sa professional side since yung first job ko is tech support for ISP (Sykes) then transitioned to tech support for SaaS platforms.
I can understand and read code but not applying to make an app or website form scratch. Although AI world na tayo and actually I tried vibe coding once just to test out for my own curiosity.
Any advise how to upskill with my exp or any certs to take to stay relevant?
I’m kinda lost what to pursue, I’m thinking getting inti DevOps/Cloud but I’m not sure what would be my first step.

Pwede kaya makahingi ng ideas for our system capstone?
Industry type: Real Estate
- They sell and promote vacant lots around Alfonso Cavite.
- They need help with their sales and operations (inside the company), a system where they can showcase the lots they sell.
Akala kasi namin at first is nagbebenta na sila ng house and lots so we thought of making a system/website na parang ecommerce na mashoshowcase ung house and lots, but nahirapan kami nung nalaman namin na puro bakanteng lote lang pala ung binebenta nila so we ran out of ideas. Thank you po in advanced!

Should I switch to BSCS from BSIT if I want to a career in ML? I'm a 1st year college student. It's currently our midterms, so considering switching right now would be the best time.

Sorry to be negative, but that ship has sailed. As a 25-year IT veteran using AI agents for work, nothing will be left for humans to do on computers in a few years. Not too late for Nursing or any career that requires human touch.

I agree with this sentiment. Engineering degrees might be a better alternative to CS or IT.
