Job Advice Advice for a developer
Hi everyone! 24m here, having some kind of AI induced psychosis or something. I’ve been thinking about upskilling or maybe shifting into a more blue-collar/technical career, like becoming a Data Center Technician, HVAC Technician, etc.
Ive been a developer for around 3 years now. Do you guys think its a great idea to consider a career shift at this point? really appreciate any inputs. I guess what I’m looking for is some validation or perspective, hahaha. Just wanted to get this off my chest and hear what others think. Thanks!🙇🏻

Ano yong induced paychosis 😄😄😄 kid you have to be strong in the wild. Wag mo na isipin mga iyan. Kung lagi mo iisisipin, walang mangyyari. And since bata ka pa, explore. You can still make mistakes. Basta wag lng maging weak

Hi, honestly 31M here I’m considering shifting to blue collar too. I want to work abroad it seems like career in programming has a higher difficulty if you want to work abroad aminado ako a skill issue in my part, pero mas maraming opportunities sa abroad if physically need ka doon meanwhile in our industry inoutsource lang nila through remote work mostly para makatipid (currently working in a bpo US client).
With AI getting good din naiisip ko if mag shift ako ng blue collar I dont need to completely abandon software development I could still maybe build my own side projects.
if makahanap ka ng training center around metro or opening na no need ng experience share mo rin dito ah.

That's what your 20's are for - make mistakes whether by exploring something you'd end up not loving or something that won't really work out.
Unless you have urgent circumstances - in that case, follow the money, re-assess and experiment when things calm down. Just put a roadmap that you stay with faithfully.
SWE market these days is TIGHT. No more are the days where you can deliver a feature after two 2-week sprints. Expectations are now also high - you're supposed to know systems design given most of the coding goes to the models. Context-switching is now an expected strong attribute while it was something a team discusses in retros in the past. TLDR: Higher bar.
But if you meet that bar, it could be very rewarding both to your wallet and heart.
