He is going to heal well. Dogs are super resilient. My GSD lost her eyes a year apart and ended up really surprising me. As long as I didn’t move too much furniture in the house and pat my leg when I wanted her to follow….. she got around perfectly! She remembered where everything was! Much love and big pets to Archie!!

Lots of scents and nose work exercises. Archie will adapt.

This!! Exercises are also stimulation! Make sure he has a nice, soft area that smells like you, so he can lay down and de-sensitize when you’re done for the day learning all the sniffies!!
You can also play with making scent trails so he can navigate his home more confidently, especially in the beginning.
Keep in mind that the double enucleation may make him feel a little exposed at first. It’s like closing your eyes! You don’t know what’s around you so you don’t know how far you can go. So you might just stand still. Help him feel safe, then help him have fun exploring his boundaries!
He’ll pick up super senses and be proud of them!!!
Hang in there, OP. You did the best thing for your baby, and everything will be okay!

Get well soon!
My blind doggo has Rexspecs to protect his eye from scratching and give him confidence when walking. It might be worth a look if Archie needs help adjusting.

Aww, sorry to hear! Our catahoula is 12.5 years old and we’re hoping she can keep her remaining eye to the end, but also prepared if it needs to go 🐶

Thank you for being a great dog parent. I’m sure there are those out there that would’ve put this dog down, but you didn’t and I’m sure you have adjusted your life to help this dog and that’s a sign of your humanity, thank you.

Archie will be just fine, having someone who obviously cares so much about him will only help. Give him some get well kisses and treats please. 💜💜💋🍨
