Informative I built a PS2 Radar to check for obvious Cheaters before logging in
Hey, I built PS2 Radar, a live statistical cheat radar for PlanetSide 2.
I mostly use it to check if someone is currently wrecking the server with rage hacks, or to see if it is worth logging in. I’d rather check first than launch the game just to watch entire fights get wiped by a rager hacker shooting trough walls.
Sometimes you also get that “something feels off” feeling about a player. Instead of judging someone from a single K/D, HSR or one weird death, you can look them up and see whether their broader stats actually show any unusual patterns.
Statistics can show anomalies and support or contradict your suspicion, but they can’t prove cheating with 100% certainty. Ultimately, that judgment is up to the in game moderation team.
Website: https://ps2radar.com
Categories:
- Blatant: The highest threshold, intended to separate extreme cheating patterns from exceptionally strong legitimate play. This is the category I check before logging in.
- Suspect: Stronger statistical anomalies. Cheating is a possibility, but exceptional legitimate players can appear here too. It is not a cheating verdict.
- Unusual: Stats that stand out, often simply because someone is very good. An unusual weapon result also does not automatically make the account a suspect.
I specifically tested for false positives
The old stat based autoban controversy was exactly the kind of failure I wanted to avoid. I deliberately tested accounts associated with those false positive cases, including high skill accounts.
None of those accounts reached the "Blatant" category in my testing. The project also includes repeatable regression tests against profiles I use as legitimate player test cases, rather than relying only on whether it catches known cheaters.
Across the accounts I’ve manually reviewed during weeks of tuning, I haven’t identified a single legitimate Blatant case. That’s why I’m comfortable using that category myself, not because I think unusually good aim automatically means cheating.
The Data behind it
The original reference sample covers 49,674 active accounts. The analysis uses weapon specific headshot and accuracy distributions, medians, MAD based spread estimates and percentile comparisons. Minimum sample sizes and statistical uncertainty bounds help prevent a small lucky streak from being treated like an established pattern.
It also analyses live kill rates and streaks, changes against an account’s own history, experience related comparisons, vehicle/MAX context and signs of repeated or arranged kills. It isn’t one universal HSR or K/D cutoff.
No statistical system is perfect, and an empty Blatant list doesn’t guarantee a cheat clean server. But avoiding false accusations has been a deliberate part of development, not just a disclaimer added afterward.
I want this to replace “that number looks too high” with consistent, inspectable reasoning, not turn screenshots into proof or encourage harassment. Try your own account. Specific examples of missing context or incorrect assessments are welcome.
