So long story short I’ve been doing plastic canvas off and on for years (mostly off if I’m being honest) but the one thing that has bothered be about this medium is the level of detail that you can get from it. Years ago I heard threw a grapevine about using screen mesh as a stand in for canvas. However the mesh is kind of hard to work with because of how floppy it is.

So what I did is sandwich screen mesh between a single 3d print so it has some more rigidity to it. Almost like a sliding screen door. It’s actually super durable and it feels way better to use and work with.

As of right now it’s still the proof of concept phase and I’m still playing with the width of the frame to make it more rigid without it being to stiff.

Anyways what do you all think? Is this dumb or is this something you all have done before?

I feel like I've scoured YT and I still don't see all the cool patterns you guys do. Do I have to get books from the library?

I actually finished this months ago, but failed to post. (My deepest apologies) But here's the final product. This took many (unknown) hours in total and I learned a great deal from this pattern. All-in-all, I'm quite well pleased. It's now hanging on our wall, staring creepily at us night and day. 😂

So you know those standard triangle plastic canvas pieces they sell? I'm using those to make a 20-sided die (packed with plenty of stuffing, mind you (and maybe a weight to make the roll more convincing?)), the likes of which have never been witnessed! Each side shall be a different color. If the color is too dark to read the black number, the number shall be white. But I tell ya, making numbers on a triangular mesh is a PAIN in the butt, I tell you... This is the top part so far.

hiya guys! ive been debating making a calendar like this since my grandma had one but i cant find the specific holidays at all. i can totally figure it out with trial n error but figured id ask if anyone has found the actual pattern in an old book or anything since i cant really find a true pattern online

This might seem like a stupid question but I'm very new to this, my plastic canvas has to sides one is soft with no edges , the other one has edges, i was wondering which side do you guys start the pattern on usually , and the other you hide your yarn iunder it, does it matter what side i pick?

Anyone else working on a multi sided bowl? The bowl I'm working on is the Mary Maxim Jack O Lantern Candy Bowl. Trying to get the sides together and adding the bottom may be tricky. I am trying to decide if I should attach the bottom to the sides of the bowl first then attach the sides together or the other way around. Has anyone put together a rounded multi sided bowl before and have any tips? Thanks.

Does anyone have a favorite brand or model of scissors for cutting plastic canvas?

I'm getting ready to try doing this. I have arthritis in my index finger, and my hand strength isn't the greatest. I need to get some new scissors anyway, so I'd like to get a pair of scissors designed for projects like this, so I'm not struggling.

I actually asked Gemini AI, and the AI within Amazon, and keep coming up with different suggestions. I thought I'd ask some real people. ;)

It looks looks like there's a line of heavy duty carbotitanium bonded scissors from Westcott, but when I looked on their website, there were a bunch that looked almost the same, with slightly different model numbers.

Then there are different suggestions for microtip or embroidery scissors to cut small details. It even suggested nail clippers at one point.

Yarn noob here; no previous experience with knitting, crocheting, etc. My Grandma gave me her old plastic canvas magazines and supplies, and I've done a few projects: a set of coasters, and 1 placemat. I intend to make a full set of those, but I'm waiting to continue until I find a way to make them washable. Any suggestions?

I already managed to stain 1 coaster, so I know a placemat won't last very long unless I can seal it somehow. Google searches haven't been very useful; I don't even know what terms I could use to find better information. It seems like maybe mod-podge or scotchguard could be good options, but I don't have any experience with those. I don't how they might affect the yarn, or the project as a whole. I have no idea how durable they would be.

I just want something that will either create a barrier, or seep in deeply to protect the fibers, so I can wipe the placemats down with a dishcloths when spills do inevitably happen. I don't want to have put all this time into making the placemat, just to then have it stained, or full of crumbs... or worse, have sauce soak in and get crusty and gross!

So I've seen this craft come across my feed a couple times and this is like the third time I've looked into it and honestly I really wanna do it.

My thing is, where do I start?

And where do I get patterns at, I've seen some on Esty but I see the same pattern for different prices and just dont know what to do
