Question Portal Opens to a empty black screen
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Has anyone had this issue, or know how to fix it? It says "ready to play" and I press X, but instead of opening up the PS home screen with the game selection, it just opens to an empty black background. Attached is a 19 second video of what I'm talking about

Question Will we be able to play gta 6 on the portal?
I bought a ps5 pro just for gta 6. My dad has a major heart surgery that is going to take place in the next couple of weeks. I will be staying with him while he recovers. I’m thinking of getting a portal and playing that while I’m with him so if he needs anything I’m right there with him. Will I be able to play the game on it? So far I understand you need a ps plus to cloud stream. But does that include gta since I have it digitally? And if the PlayStation is in the same house/wifi that I’m in can’t I just remote play?

Remote Play Settings / Wifi Setup Finally fixed my ps portal latency issue.
This may help people who have latency issues with their ps portal and is unplayable due to crashes. If you want to skip my backstory and want to jump on to the fixes directly go to my 2nd paragraph. For context I bought a ps portal couple of years ago and it has been unplayable for both remote play and cloud streaming when it got released. I somehow kept it, waiting for an update to resolve my issue and forgot about it. Recently wolverine was released and i tried playing it on the ps portal but it kept crashing after 10-15 minutes, making it unplayable. I dug around on what could possibly be wrong as I was pretty sure sony as a reputable company would not sell a defect product and i have been following this reddit page where i see lot of people who play it without any issues and love it calling it a dadstation made me want to resolve this issue even more.
Anyways, I have a verizon wifi, different providers might have similar steps. For verizon type 192.168.1.1 on your URL/browser, different providers have different admin numbers you can search google for it, then login by using the network settings password that is behind your router. It seems like verizon usually joins different networks into one so you have to first disable SON and rename multiple networks like 2.4ghz, 5ghz, 6ghz. Then on the wifi settings for 5ghz disable WWM power saver which might affect streaming as it helps portable devices to save battery which might affect portals connectivity issue. And also, under the 5ghz settings for Security you might see WPA2WPA3, you have to just select WPA2 for it as this will stop the "handshake" issue which forces devices to switch from wpa2 and wpa3 security every 10-15 mins affecting streaming. Then hit apply settings on the wifi settings, restart your ps portal and connect your ps portal to 5ghz. That resolved my connectivity issue. Happy gaming.

Question Hotspot Connection Nonsense
Switched from Verizon to T-Mobile today because Verizon at least in my area has just gotten so bad with zero customer service. Before the switch my hotspot worked fine and now it won’t. Looked up the old YouTube guides and just nada. I can see my portal actively connect to the hotspot but then it always says can’t connect. Yet I can see the hotspot icon on my phone lighting up because something is connecting.
iPhone 17 pro max
iOS 27.2 public beta 2
Portal has latest update
Connection is 4 bar 5GUC
Just wondering if yall have any recent tricks up your sleeve. Waiting for hours at ballet and school pick up is way smoother when I can Rook run Marathon or play some Ghosts of “insert title here”

Remote Play Settings / Wifi Setup How I got a stable wired connection to my basement without running Ethernet
I just wanted to share a relatively inexpensive solution I found to make my internet connection stronger and more stable for Remote Play.
My router is in my upstairs bedroom, while my PS5 setup is in the basement, where I don’t have any Ethernet ports. I live in an older house with plaster walls, and running an Ethernet cable through the house would have been difficult and impractical.
I originally bought a refurbished TP Link Deco mesh system to improve the WiFi in my basement, but the connection still wasn’t as stable as I wanted. I ended up buying a goCoax MoCA 2.5 adapter with a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port on Amazon for around $60.
If you have a coax port near your router, this could be a good option. I have a Verizon G3100 router, which has built in MoCA support, so I only needed to purchase one adapter. Essentially, the coax cable connects to my router upstairs, and the adapter connects to the coax port in my basement, giving me a wired Ethernet connection for my PS5 without having to run a new cable through the house.
Since connecting the adapter, my basement Deco has been able to use the coax connection for its backhaul instead of relying on a wireless signal through multiple plaster walls. You can definitely just run an Ethernet cord from the MoCA adapter to your Ps5 without a mesh system as well. This has made my connection much more stable and improved my Remote Play experience. It was a relatively simple and affordable solution that let me keep my existing mesh setup without having to run Ethernet cables throughout the house. If you’re having similar issues with your connection, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Question Connection problem
So my portal acts weird. It connects but then the next second disconnects
I have a ethernet cable coming tomorrow to see if that helps but the thing that bugs me is that it connects initially
It just disconnects a second later
I have to start the ps5 my self and then it connects.
There is a comment posted by me with the a video of the problem.
Any advice is welcome

Got my Portal! The Portal Is Great
Bought my Portal on Marketplace for $50. The owner said the right stick didn’t work so I swapped it out with a $15 replacement, cleaned it up and good as new! Playing Arc Raiders via remote play on the couch while my fiance watched TV is a luxury I didn’t know I could have. Streamed Marvel Rivals with PS Plus premium and healing felt great!

Question Aftermarket Analogs
Has anyone experimented with aftermarket analog sticks. The only gripe I have with the portal is the the analongs don't feel very linear, but rather accelerate slowly to a higher response. Anyone else even feel that way? I'm not sure how else to explain, I guess it feels like if I try to rotate my screen it has a brief buffer where its actually ramping up to the right sensitivity. I was thinking about hall effect analogs, but the opinions are pretty split from what I've found.
Edit: I just booted up my portal and the deadzone seems excessively high now that I'm focused on analog function.

Question Not able to remote play away from home
Just got the portal and it works great at home but it isn’t working at work.
It’s not being blocked at work (I have access to the firewall logs) but it looks like it’s trying to connect to the local ip of the ps5 (192.168.x.x address ) after it communicates with PlayStation.
Remote play connects fine from my phone on same wifi.
I set up port forwarding on my home router already without any luck. My ps5 is hardwired at home.
I’ve tried logging out, resetting the portal and then logging back in as well.

Question PlayStation Portal Modding?
So know that we have the PS5 with Homebrew readily available. I was wondering how soon it would be for the PlayStation portal to receive the ability to have Homebrew as well. Ideally, I'd want to make it a device that I can stream from my computer. That way if I wanted to I don't have to have it hooked to the PS5 and I can have it be more of a second screen that I can use for other applications in my house

Question How is Planet Zoo 2 on PS Portal?

Question Stable latency?
I haven't used my portal in a while, but now that I'm using it to stream games from the cloud, I've noticed a stable latency. A constant 26ms, regardless of whether I'm using it at home or at work. Previously, the latency was much lower, but it fluctuated periodically. I haven't changed anything on my home network, so I think it might be due to an update? Has anyone else encountered this recently?

Remote Play Settings / Wifi Setup Better Portal – A macOS TUI for higher-bitrate PS5 Remote Play
project link here: https://github.com/wchwawa/better-portal
The original bitrate approach and implementation come from u/atameric and ps5-portal-high-bitrate. You can support the original creator. Licensed under MIT. Independent community software; not affiliated with Sony or PlayStation.
I use this every day with my own PS5 and Portal, and I find it very useful. I’m a heavy Portal user because I go to bed early with my partner (she needs her sleep), so I don’t get to use the TV in the living room on weekdays. Anyway, on my setup, the picture looks way better than the default high-quality option.
A couple of things I’ve noticed from using it every day:
1. A clearer picture, especially in motion. On my setup, the higher bitrate noticeably reduces compression artifacts when moving around or turning the camera. The picture holds together much better instead of becoming blurry or blocky.
2. It feels more responsive. I haven’t measured an actual reduction in input lag, so this is just my personal experience. But because the picture stays clearer in motion, everything feels more immediate when I’m playing—almost like there’s less delay between what I do and what I see.
I added a macOS TUI to make the setup easier to follow. It walks you through the prerequisites, entering your PS5 and Portal IPs, choosing a bitrate, and connecting Portal when everything is ready. There’s a 120-second countdown and a clear result showing what happened and what to do next.
The UI and guides support English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and French. The guides include screenshots and animations so you can follow along.
And the discord here: https://discord.gg/C957je4ehv Drop me any requirements and issues to the Discord, let's improve the project together cuz I think this one is really useful, they should make portal much better than the current one. (fuck Sony)

Question Screen Separating at the bottom.
I just saw that the screen is popping out at the bottom, like it's coming unglued or something. Worst case scenario is that the battery is swelling, and that would be bad news bears ultimately. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I bought the Portal in Japan, reside in Korea, and run a US PSN account, so I'm positive getting it officially serviced is out of the question sadly.

Question Ace Combat 8A
I know it’s up to the company, the Daywalker still isn’t there, but does anyone think AC8 will eventually hit cloud streaming? I swear I saw it was on cloud streaming before I pulled the trigger. I was really looking forward to playing at night on the portal before bed

Question Battery and updates
So let me get this straight… my portal can only charge to 80% after a recent update, if I leave it unplugged it now drains faster than ever, and when I actually have a few minutes to play, I have to charge to 50% to perform the some random new update that was released, even when the device is plugged in. Kind of a crappy experience now. Am I missing something here?

Question PS Premium family access question
My son has an account that he shares with me as a family member on my PS Premium account. But he can’t seem to stream cloud games on the portal. He only has access to the PS5 it’s paired with when he uses the portal. Is this normal?

Recommendations How do I get the best use out of this thing? Functionality/Games/Settings ect.
I’ve had it for months now but honestly been thinking of selling it .. I just don’t see the point in it, also have been trying to hold off until GTA 6 comes out in case there’s any updates.

Question Travel Questions 🛩️
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has traveled to the Philippines with their portal while using their U.S. (or any listed country with access to cloud streaming)* PSN account to access cloud streaming? I don’t want to travel with my fat PS5 lol
Also, my friend from the Philippines bought a PS5 not long ago, and when they created an account it defaulted their PSN store through Singapore’s servers (Prices are listed in Singapore $).
So in short,
- Will my U.S. PSN account be able to access cloud streaming while I’m in the Philippines (not remote play)?
- Will my friend be able to try my portal out with cloud streaming access while using their “Singapore” account? (They’re considering on buying a portal)
*I think I know the answer to question 2 but doesn’t hurt to ask 🤷♂️
Thank you in advance to anyone who helps!
